- gamerfreak1203, on 10/10/2007, -11/+127"Revision 3" doesn't exactly scream "Job Security" to me.
- Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+84Well, that comes as absolutely no surprise given the jumps this last week or so...
- danakin, on 10/10/2007, -4/+68Paternity, maternity. Look the words up.
- tastypastry, on 10/10/2007, -0/+49I'm going to miss Patrick on DL.TV...assuming they keep the show alive, which I hope they do...or at least sweep up Robert Heron for Rev3...And Roger Chang too.
Wait. What if DL.TV goes to Rev3 but under a different name? - DaffyDuck, on 10/10/2007, -2/+51I guess you never watched Screen Savers on the now dead Tech TV. Man, I loved that show.
- dtrinh, on 10/10/2007, -3/+51PATRICK NORTON. TSS host (in ye olde days with Leo) ... dressed in a kilt occasionally
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+47Why dont they just bring the whole TechTV to Revision3?
- illegal_op, on 10/10/2007, -0/+42from dl.tv website
A Fond Farewell
• Yes, it's true... This was Patrick's last episode of DL.TV. He's got a baby coming in October, and he's moving on to a new gig. He'll be back, tho, as a guest on DL.TV and CrankyGeeks, and he wants to thank "the incredible crew that watches the show, Mr Callahan and Mr. Young at Ziff Davis for giving us the opportunity, all the folks at Ziff Davis that have contributed (Jim, Steve, Robyn, Michael, Chris, Denise, Bill, Stan, Dan, Sascha, Kyle, Lance, Neil... it's a long list!) and to Robert, Roger, Scott, Annaliza and Brooks, who'll be carrying the DL.TV torch forward. It's a bittersweet, 'cause this has been a lot of fun to put together." - JimXugle, on 10/10/2007, -3/+42People in this thread keep proposing mergers between two companies (like TWiT and Rev3) to make what some call a "real" tech network.
Wake up people... The /Internet/ is the network that you're talking about. - dave911la, on 10/10/2007, -1/+32rev3 will be like techtv or zdtv when leo starts showing up on there
- ProAm500, on 10/10/2007, -38/+69"after a brief paternity leave, joining Revision3."
Wow, I didnt know Patrick was pregnant? - chilekillr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+32And we need a TWIT/ Rev3 merger.
- iashraf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26You've been painted with a brush the colour of skeptical.
- onestep, on 10/21/2007, -0/+21It makes sense. Jim Louderback was his boss, so he knew exactly what Patrick's existing monetary package was, so he knew precisely what kind of package to offer Patrick to come to Rev 3.
- RonAcierno, on 02/07/2008, -2/+23now all we need is Leo to bring the TWiT Network with him to Rev3 and we will have a true Tech network
- Dantetheinferno, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18As Laporte put it - All of these three networks have put tons of work into their individual networks, giving it up would be really hard for each of them. They all want to keep control.
- psbpv3o, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16We got Kevin, Patrick, Sarah, Martin, and Alex. All we need is leo and I think we can have another Screen savers :)
- darkfate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15I think Leo's shows are more popular (or so he says). Merging them would produce a behemoth of Tech. Which might be good, but TWiT is more audio and Rev3 is obviously video (with a mp3 alternative). I don't even think Leo likes a lot of the stuff Rev3 produces (he's put down Diggnation a few times and it sounded like he wasn't to keen on that GigaOM show).
- Teej, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15You do know you're wrong, right? I believe Jay and Kevin are the only common links in the business side of things.
- jjhat1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13TechTV >> G4
- loopyloopy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14hey thats why we love Roger. He's honest and just like real geeks we know. Not everyone has to be a sales pitch oriented marketeer or presentation guru on TV (or net TV). He gives tech shows authenticity that anyone can be part of something like this.
- christoast, on 09/04/2008, -2/+15Nothing will ever replace TechTV. I grew up with that channel constantly on and when they canceled it i was literally hurt.
- merelyjim, on 10/21/2007, -4/+16Damn it! Every time I get hooked on something good [TechTV, DL.TV] the show DIES! And, yeah, with out Patrick Norton, DL.TV is going to suck... 45 minutes of Heron telling me which HDTV is should be impressed with that week...
- zdiggler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Roger Chang is going to be host. That guy is very entertaining.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11You're right, both networks have very different demographics and goals. Rev3 seems to want to be TechTV 2.0 with a demographic change to appeal more to just the younger crowd. TWiT seems to be more centered around leveraging the unique ideals of Podcasting and seems to appeal more to being listened to while working or commuting, and less toward watching on your couch on you own time while drinking. That being said, I think both have potential, but TWiT has more potential to do something very different and new, while Rev3 seems to just be like a fresh TV network.
- akira117, on 10/10/2007, -5/+16Revision 3 is the new Tech TV W00tz!!!111one1 :DD
(Though we still need confirmation from Rev 3/Patrick) - DuxDucis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11TWIT really isn't a company that makes money. As far as I understand, Leo does a lot of it in his own time.
Rev3 on the other hand is several people' livelihoods, paychecks and everything. They are for-profit, the business models of the two companies are incompatible for the moment. - omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13I wish TWiT, ZDTV, and Rev3 would somehow become more officially affiliated with each other. That'd be about as close to Tech TV as you could possibly get.
- hadees, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I hope Robert Heron jumps ship. He already has been on at least one Revision3 show.
- KidVicious, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14Considering the kind of people who have been leaving their "secure" jobs to join it, I'd say Rev3 is becoming more cemented all the time.
- rodzilla, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Morgan is going to TWIT, she is going to do a new podcast called Chicks Life In tech (*****)
- irishpunk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9add in the inclusion of Sarah Lane to revision3 and we got ourselves a sort of TechTV reunion showing.
- ArmandoM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I've got two kids, with each I took a couple weeks off work to help my wife out while she was recovering from cesarean section surgery.
Going back to work is like going on vacation. - rodzilla, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13Damn it!! Now who am I going to masturbate to
- justinjstark, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Ummm... WHAT?
- loopyloopy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9i thought he worked best with Leo, who was able to balance out that arrogant side of Patrick, by explaining what he meant if things got too cryptic.
- Jukey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8:'(
- temporal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8this is the bubble bursting. Tech journalists leaving steady jobs with established companies for start ups. Let alone a tech journalist with a baby on the way. Veronica Belmont made a similar move a couple weeks ago. I like Patrick and i am sure they showed him a big fat check but this could end badly. either way it'll be fun to watch
- JohnHamlin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7yeah . . . equality really became a bitch when they made it a two way street.
and i doubt that any man, at home with a hormonal, sleep deprived wife and a screaming little baby is going to be able to get away with sitting on his ass 'do[ing] nothing for a few weeks' - LouisC, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Eh, DL.TV is a great podcast. I personally like it more than Diggnation, which is slower on tech news and doesn't really tell me anything new.
Patrick is the best thing DL.TV has (Robert for me is just, eh), and if he leaves, the show's going to go down the (internet) tubes. - Protoss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7From what I've read, Leo doesn't like Rev3's business format, or he just doesn't like being 'hip'...But still, we've got at least 3/4 of TechTV staff at Rev3, why not have at least one reunion show.
- Soytaco, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7The next episode of DL.TV is gonna be entertaining..
- ShogunWarPig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Yeah because that has worked in the past. It is tempting though... how i miss Tech TV.
- JasonHilton, on 10/21/2007, -1/+7Revision3 is becoming the new TechTV. I guess this sums it up nicely: (1337) http://img490.imageshack.us/img490/2510/1337rev3aq9.jpg
- _Caboose_, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8I didn't mean Patrick leaving DL.TV, I meant that he's apparently joining Rev3.
- LaserCobra, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I was sad to learn of the news but thought he could be going to Revision 3 since Jim L went there shortly before. Seemed those two liked each others work. Wish they could evolve into TV broadcasting. I'd like to see some decent video footage on the ol' wide screen...
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7No, Caboose is totally right. There is no indication anywhere that Norton is going to join Revision3 now, he merely said he was moving on to another project. I'd like to think he is, by my only concern is that I don't see Rev3 being able to pay him more than his ZiffDavis job(host, writer, and head of podcasts), which is probably what he'd need with a new baby coming and all. That is, unless Rev3 has some suprise big-time deal that they have reached that they hasn't gotten out yet...
- mxman420, on 10/21/2007, -3/+9If Leo could pull his head out of his ego....we could have TSS... on Revision3. HEY KEVIN.....LISTEN UP! THESE 2 GUYS DID IT ALL WHILE U WERE WAR DRIVEN!!!!!!!!!!
PAY PATRICK WHAT EVER HE WANTS.....HE IS THE KING OF TECH. -
