- ravis31, on 02/19/2008, -6/+44Get ready for Michael Bay's rant of "Told you so,Told you so"
- Evari, on 02/19/2008, -1/+38what does race have to do with it?
- chris9902, on 02/19/2008, -4/+29You win this one Michael Bay. *shakes fist at sky*
- markwilcox, on 02/19/2008, -2/+26If you can afford an HDTV you can afford the HD media. If you can't afford an HDTV buy DVDs....
troll. - catachip, on 02/19/2008, -1/+24Poor people should not be buying blu ray or HD-DVD. Poor people should be buying food, clothes, and paying rent. High definition media is a luxury for those who can afford it, not a gap that needs to be closed for the indigent in society. I understand that, and I'm one of those communist liberals that want to destroy America, by the way.
- sporktek, on 02/19/2008, -4/+26ZOMG! ANOTHER NAIL IN THE COFFIN!!!
- neocr0n, on 02/19/2008, -0/+18I don't think Sony need to pay them to adopt Blu-Ray, its now the undisputed dominant high definition format. If they don't switch the only losers are Paramount & Universal.
- santasing, on 02/19/2008, -0/+16Dear Jason,
Get a job. Until then, go f*** yourself.
-Sony - hipnerd, on 02/19/2008, -4/+18He's already done that.
“Blu-ray’s better, and I told everyone. I was very vocal about it. I knew HD [DVD] was not going to make it.”

Link: http://www.badmouth.net/hd-dvd-vs-blu-ray-the-fina ... (Quote is towards the bottom.) - jimsowden, on 02/19/2008, -3/+16I know, because DVD region locking is SUCH a problem
- kingmanic, on 02/19/2008, -0/+12At this point it's a 10 ton pile of nails on top of what used to be a coffin.
- santasing, on 02/19/2008, -1/+13He did tell everyone so.
- DesertSquirrel, on 02/19/2008, -3/+15Is this an official statement or just someone stating what should be fairly obvious by this point?
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -1/+12I think only Universal has officially confirmed it thus far, though it's inevitable at this point
- krische, on 02/19/2008, -3/+14Finally, now just release the Bourne trilogy on Blu-ray and I'm happy.
- oldhick, on 02/19/2008, -0/+11No they shouldn't. People should be free to buy whatever they please. That doesn't mean they should.
- nrose101, on 02/19/2008, -6/+16You're my boy blu!
- pkraft, on 02/19/2008, -3/+13Thank you Capt. Obvious. Man, will the stories ever improve or is Digg doomed?
- bigbadgoat, on 02/19/2008, -0/+10I for one, like the idea of getting the movies I want on BD sooner rather than waiting for theatres in some other pearts of the world to stop showing the film. You want to wait? fine. They cut it down to what? 3 regions world wide? North America is in the same Region as Southeast asia, so really, why the ***** are regions a bad thing?
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -1/+11HOW UNEXPECTED.
- airj1012, on 02/19/2008, -0/+9You had a 50% chance of being correct. Congratulations, it's a miracle.
- Lynxpro, on 02/19/2008, -1/+10Seriously, shut up with the FUD. Region Coding on Blu-ray only lasts for 1 year and then it expires. It is also just for new titles.
- jerrycan, on 02/19/2008, -0/+9I'll summarize the responses....
- no one will download a 50g blu ray dump!
- you tard, no one DLs raw disk dumps! an h.264 movie is 2 to 7 gb!
- People still want physical media!
- You tard, just burn the h.264 to a 25 cent disk!
- I don't have high speed/uncapped internets!
- suck to be you! - bigbadgoat, on 02/19/2008, -0/+8yeah, in about 10-15 years, and most people, unsurprisingly will still prefer tangible media because of the control they have over it.
- alittleroy101, on 02/19/2008, -1/+8Can we just make an engadget section?
- ChairShot83, on 02/19/2008, -3/+10Just gimmie my Indiana Jones and Back To The Future movies without raping my wallet, please.
- exomni, on 02/19/2008, -4/+11SRSLY? OMG NOBODY SAW THIS ONE COMING. I THOUGHT THEY WERE GOING TO PUBLISH FILMS ON REELS OF CHEESE.
- HenvY, on 02/19/2008, -1/+8No *****? I thought Paramount and Universal were a dead cert to pull out of HD altogether.
- manstein01, on 02/19/2008, -0/+7He said something like "I told you so," but it was drowned out by so many explosions that I really could not fully comprehend the dialog.
- TiMMY8765, on 02/19/2008, -0/+7you sound like my uncle. he says the same thing about DVD, and still won't get a dvd player. he now pays me to rent movies and copy them to vhs for him.
- RooX, on 02/19/2008, -1/+8Keep telling yourself that.
Perhaps for you, spending money on anger management classes would be better. For me, i'll spend my money on nice HD movies. - mediaploy, on 02/19/2008, -0/+7all of his posts are the same. he is a prime example of your average e-*****.
- phoenixp3k, on 02/19/2008, -0/+7And you had to say it twice?
- dboy3587, on 02/19/2008, -0/+6Finally!
- Lynxpro, on 02/19/2008, -1/+7Grow up and realize that regular DVD looks terrible on an HDTV and pretty much the only tvs that are being sold today are HDTVs. If you think an increase of 600 lines of resolution is a rip off, not only are you blind, but stupid and cheap too.
- cyrix, on 02/19/2008, -2/+8This is NOT 4chan.
Anyone else notice the ridiculous wave of wannabe /b/ tards that suddenly run around digg? - bdbr, on 02/19/2008, -0/+6Your racial comment aside...HD-DVD was cheaper, but not THAT much cheaper. They were just being sold at a loss. Once the market stabilized and competition kicked in, the players probably won't be that much more than HD-DVD players would have been. They both use the same blue lasers, after all. The only thing that would have been cheaper is blank media, since HD-DVDs cost less to manufacture. When a studio is charging $25-30 for a movie, the cost of the media is a minor issue.
- krische, on 02/19/2008, -0/+6I'll never understand the people that don't think Blu-ray prices are still going to go down. There are still various manufactures of blu-ray players. You don't think they are going to compete to have the cheapest player? And the disc prices go down as more and more are manufactured.
- inactive, on 02/19/2008, -3/+9I'm a rich mexican...
- pagemap, on 02/19/2008, -1/+7Your point? It's not even been a full week since HD-DVD died. Give it some time for sales to ramp up accordingly.
And, you know what? A year from now DVDs will probably STILL outsell Blu-Ray. - DBLR, on 02/19/2008, -1/+7at this point, do they even have a choice?
- LaughingDjinn, on 02/19/2008, -0/+5This is not a story its a paragraph of blogspam, now if there is an article or link to an announcement of WHEN we can start seeing the titles on Blu-Ray as opposed to crushingly obvious fact that we WILL that would be useful and should have a shot at front page. This makes me feel like an old man at 22 missing the days of digg a few years ago when I was the dumb young kid digging up articles on how to make vodka in powder form.... ::sigh::
- bigbadgoat, on 02/19/2008, -1/+6I'm betting 3-4 years from now, if not longer. However, It will come into its own long before digital distribution is feasible.
- logicalnoise, on 02/19/2008, -2/+7buy a 80 dollar upscaling dvd player and enjoy a satisfactory visual experience(not as good as HD media but on tvs 50" and smaller quiet acceptable). Once blu-ray players come down then you can upgrade.
- Lynxpro, on 02/19/2008, -1/+6...and consequently, New Line's newer titles weren't released at the same time as their Blu-ray counterparts because some of the films were still in the theatres in Europe at the time. It cuts both ways.
- bjs3171, on 02/19/2008, -3/+8i'd like the entire star trek film series on blue-ray, please.
- kingmanic, on 02/19/2008, -0/+5Both formats are nearly identical, there is no advantage to dual players. Both brought exactly the same things to the table. Format competition doesn't keep prices low, player competition does. Format competition only slows adoption, causes consumer confusion, and leads to vendor lock in. The push for 1 format to win is to remove those road blocks.
- Lynxpro, on 02/19/2008, -0/+4Just remember that most DVDs cost $25-$30 back in 1999. DVD players themselves cost just as much as Blu-ray players did, circa 1997-1998.
- ChairShot83, on 02/19/2008, -0/+4Umm come see me after you buy the BLU RAY versions of these movies. Then tell me you picked them up for a bargain price of $20 each.
