1 milliwatt per square centimeter; while that doesn't tell you how much energy is actually being transmitted (amperage), or how long it holds a charge (milliwatt hours? milliwatt months?), it does give you a very good picture of the density (power/area or "capacity" if you want to think about it that way). As for the number of cycles it can be charged, it's cross-sectional area is so small that you could laminate a few sheets of the stuff and have it progressively decay; powercycle the first 10 layers for the first 10 charges, then knock off the top one and move to the next one on the stack. repeat until battery is entirely unresponsive to charging.
Wish I could digg it twice for this ***** who didn't digg it; R&D is an expensive but worthy process, and driving up hype about some products is the only way they can ever MAKE it to market. If there's no hype, there are no investors, which means no money to make the thing. Ever wonder why we don't have flying cars? Nobody would fund them simply because the hype isn't there anymore, even though Mueller is ready to spit them out! - aznboi04k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1do any of these new battery technology ever become retail product? seems like it's all hyped prototype. i won't believe it until i can purchse it.
- splatnik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1old news. No digg.
Just kidding! No one said it yet so I thought I'd step up and take over the tradition... - greatdevourer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1However, how long are these gonna last? 10, maybe 20 cycles?
- Triplewide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dream for electric swimtrunks..one. step. closer.
- rc_collins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damn, I thought this was ready for primetime. I am big into hobby grade R/C cars. Right now the best technology out is Li-Ion. The power to wieght ration is very good, the down fall is that they are very unstable and expencive. I pay $50 for a 2 cell pack, and so far I have had 4 Liqufy on me thuse blowing $200, very pricy. I am waiting for the next big thing is battery tech to come out.
--dan - Offill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hate to say it, but I don't care about this kind of hype until one looks like it can be readily available for my purchase.

- funderwood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is pretty cool.
- sooperdooper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0at first i thought "why does my cell phone/laptop need flexible batteries?" but then i read the comment about electric swimtrunks! :D @ Triplewide
- aacidusX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this and other news like flying cars etc.. basically we wont see this for years and years from now...

Right you are there. And I believe the company you are referring to is moller. www.moller.com. I have read about this breakthrough before, but at that time there wasn't an actual battery they were demonstrating. At that time they were saying it would recharge in like 8 minutes (I believe) and would last 10 times as long as a normal battery. And as I was reading that I was wondering why aren't we looking to use this as a new source of power for our vehicles?
Schnibitz - tristian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder when this will be featured in a MP3 player (PAT PEND)
- pavelich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah thats what we need, rfid tags, great idea....;(
- sw96, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Someone ban grieks, he's posting "old news" on just about all the pages on the front page and just generally flaming..

Take it easy there killer, I didn't digg this story because I am a bit tired of seeing stories about technologies that are a decade from being available or never will be. A few more months of R&D could have yielded a more promising news article, maybe photos of a laptop running on these things (now that would have definately deserved a digg.)
Also, your point would come across better without calling me names. grow up a little, would ya? - jrclements, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow. the potential for this is amazing. imagine intelligent medic-alert bracelets that contain all of a persons relavent medical information for paramedics. or maybe the military/civil service application of using these to power intelligent body armor worn by soldiers and police that could track vital signs and give information about injuries sustained in the line of duty...
- Rome227, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very intersting! Could maybe couple that with e-paper whenever it becomes commercially viable? Sounds like a great match!

Why, becuase oil companies are making a killing and they will continue to make a killing until its impossible to milk the earth of any more oil. Then you will start to see stuff like that put to more pratical uses such as alternative car power. - Parks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0You can get power out of the decomposition of fruit too. I cant find out how much power is generated by fruit though. I cant think of anything that this would be worth paying for. Cool though.
- sudoman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0someday the government will make you wear these in your clothing.
- grieks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0***** guys i'm getting banned.... i'll never be able to digg again
- yikiad, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1i've got some belly button lint....anyone.....anyone.....beuller.....
- yikiad, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0crap, comments on wrong story....sorry
