- ichchappycat, on 02/27/2008, -8/+132Censorship for the sake of getting a country to stop banning you is lame... Fight the power YouTube.
- inactive, on 02/27/2008, -10/+85Youtube censored itself because a bunch of selfish muslim people just ALWAYS have to get their way?
Put them all back up, people. And find more, and then put those up. - EdwinJ85, on 02/27/2008, -6/+61Wait...Youtube just caved to muslim extremeists?
WHAT THE *****. - spyrochaete, on 02/27/2008, -9/+49YouTube caves to power, or even false claims of power. YouTube is the personal bitch of the DMCA, Scientology, Viacom, and Islam. If you believe in free speech you should boycott YouTube.
- bernlin2000, on 02/27/2008, -2/+40It's hard to imagine the most offensive thing to them was images of mohammed...youtube has much racier stuff than that
- JBmtk, on 02/27/2008, -4/+31Then don't go the f*ken website!! It tuns out, I don't want to watch beheadings of innocent victims, so I don't go to those websites...
- pintomp3, on 02/27/2008, -0/+24i thought it was already pretty established that the reason musharaf banned youtube was because of videos being uploaded exposing election fraud.
- Laminarcissus, on 02/27/2008, -2/+22Great, now that YouTube is sorted, can we spend a few hours on the military rule, systematic human rights violations, and the harboring of terrorist organizations?
- roosterjm2k2, on 02/27/2008, -7/+26No, the main problem is that youtube, and google, have allied themselves with extremest religion, and aided in their censorship.
- inactive, on 02/27/2008, -10/+28"after the website removed cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed"....dhimmitube
- aqzman, on 02/27/2008, -2/+20If anyone has these videos on their computer (or knows where to get them), they should reupload them to YouTube and keep doing so everytime they're taken down.
- Spuy767, on 02/27/2008, -2/+19Everyone caving to demands of fringe groups is the beginning of an apartheid.
- gstep, on 02/27/2008, -3/+19They are allowed. There's just not enough demand to put them in the mainstream. Anyone with cable or dish can get them provided they buy the right packages. My guess is you're not an American and this is just another lie they tell you about my country wherever it is you're from.
- sonnybobiche, on 02/27/2008, -4/+19Because they haven't paid to buy the wireless bandwidth from the government. They're on cable, though.
- gstep, on 02/27/2008, -2/+17Shame on YouTube for laying over on this one. If they removed every video that offended some people group from their site, there wouldn't be much left. Sure, Islam forbids depictions of their prophet, but I'm offended by all of the videos made to mock my own religion. Should these videos be taken down because millions of others like me don't like them? Absolutely not! I'll admit, in my own perfect world, only videos that mock people other than me would exist. Fortunately for the rest of you, this isn't my world, and nor do I expect it to be. With the diverse global culture we now have thanks to the internet, censorship simply just shouldn't happen, and to see YouTube allowing it is saddening.
- leexy, on 02/27/2008, -1/+15Once again, you people are falling for the official reason without an ounce of critical thinking. YouTube was banned because the site contained videos of irregularities in the elections. It's got nothing to do with the prophet, Islam, or any other such thing. If that was the case, they'll be blocking Google Images because of the cartoons and the millions of pages that may be regarded by them as offensive to Islam (and trust me, there are plenty these days!).
Musharraf is a hell-bent dictator looking for ways to silence the people opposing his autocratic rule and never-ending presidency. Stirring ***** up over nothing is a sure way to divert attention. Pakistanis aren't dupe, and they know better than to believe the official stories.
I'm guessing some of you folks are among the 30% or so who buy Bush's talk about spreading "freedom and democracy" in Iraq... - Akuinnen, on 02/27/2008, -7/+21NasKa
"Why BBC or Aljazeera not allowed on US tv networks?"
http://www.bbcamerica.com/
What the hell are you talking about? There is no law against broadcasting BBC or Aljazeera in the US. The fact that people are digging you up is sad. - inactive, on 02/27/2008, -2/+14But it exists and DISAGREES with me! I must ban/destroy/change it!
- swrostmore, on 02/27/2008, -0/+12Sure, the military government of Pakistan cares about religious cartoons. This definitely had nothing to do with the video evidence of Pakistani voter fraud thats been all over YouTube.
- spyrochaete, on 02/27/2008, -0/+11Why? Do they say that YouTube is in fact in favour of free speech and that my statements are incorrect?
- Kislev, on 02/27/2008, -1/+12Youtube is owned by google.
- RealmDown, on 02/27/2008, -1/+11Or give them a taste of what they insist others do: go overboard: Remove all instances of Pakistan and mohammad, period.
- Firehed, on 02/27/2008, -3/+13I think it's mostly market interests. Plenty of BBC content makes it stateside in the form of those stupid home improvement shows and such, and some TV providers provided actual BBC shows instead of our Americanized ripoffs.
- RealmDown, on 02/27/2008, -1/+11Get your dogma off the roadma.
- ramo13, on 02/27/2008, -1/+10Their government is mad, can they not at least stick with their decision for sometime to show some depth of character ? banned, allowed, no wait - banned, on second thought - allowed, new offending material - banned.
- redcard, on 02/27/2008, -2/+10Who said they aren't allowed?
I for one know that BBC considered doing their full lineup on American cable / Dish and instead decided to do market tests using BBC America instead. The viewership they got suggested to them that one channel was about their limit in the states.
Remember, BBC is paid for by licenses that are MANDATORY in the UK. In the US, we have a similar government paid for Television network.
As for Al-Jazeera, prove to me they are not allowed to air in the US. Prove it. - dsmx, on 02/27/2008, -9/+17They tend to tell the truth about things.
- redcard, on 02/27/2008, -2/+10Well, _I_ have been, and I think you're an idiot.
The BBC is paid for by television licenses. It costs 11.37GBP a month to even OWN a TV over there. That money gets funneled back into the operating expenses of the BBC.
However, in the US, the television market, especially on cable, is less funded by the government. So the BBC can only afford one TV station , and that station is BBC America.
So, stop being an arrogant man and start looking at the fact that the reason we don't have the BBC more here is because the BBC doesn't WANT to be.. and the reason we don't have AJ here is because AJ doesn't WANT to be. - Ajnag, on 02/27/2008, -1/+8Why does YouTube care about whether or not other governments block it? I'm fairly certain that China blocks a lot of the internet from its citizens...but then again there haven't been very many suicide bombers that were Chinese.
- pintomp3, on 02/27/2008, -1/+8no no, pakistan is our ally, just like the wonderful secular democratic state of saudi arabia.
- rand0mm0nkey, on 02/27/2008, -0/+6Google censored itself because it was missing out on advertising revenue.
- inactive, on 02/27/2008, -1/+7Probably they used up the only one they could afford.
- chuckDontSurf, on 02/27/2008, -1/+7chicks making out FTW
- cremate, on 02/27/2008, -0/+6Boycott google?
- swrostmore, on 02/27/2008, -2/+7I get BBC US via Time Warner. I doubt Al Jazeera would be allowed considering Bush ordered bombs dropped on their Iraq headquarters.
- inactive, on 02/27/2008, -0/+5Ya no *****. What the ***** Google?
Time for everyone to start posting these back to youtube. - radarbeam, on 02/27/2008, -1/+6Prepare to see more and more mainstream corporation cave-in to the demand of muslims. Governments are already hard at work on that. Look at the UK, they've got their noses so far up the collective muslims ass that it want to make the rest of the civilized world puke.
- manogamez, on 02/27/2008, -0/+5ELECTION FRAUD! Can't you people read? Do you have a 3 second memory? Seriously...
- inactive, on 02/27/2008, -3/+8YouTube are making a HUGE mistake. They are based in the USA! Screw Pakistan. We live in a country where you are free to express yourself no matter who it offends. This cowing down to someone because you are making them uncomfortable is absolute *****. I don't see them removing Zeitgeist clips because the christians are offended. Maybe we should all raise hell and have them remove anything that offends any of us. That wouldn't leave them with many videos at all now would it?
- Nespithe, on 02/27/2008, -2/+7well time to start uploading said removed videos 200 times a day every day
- inactive, on 02/27/2008, -0/+5Was it really removed? Or did the Pakistani government chicken out?
"Uh oh, people seem to be really angry about our blocking of Youtube, we better remove it just so our people don't start questioning our religion's reasonability"
- "But sir, the offensive content in Youtube has approximately grown 10-fold since we started blocking it"
"Well, remove the block, and make some ***** up about all the content being removed" - CaptainScarlet, on 02/27/2008, -3/+8Ban this!!!!!
Mohammed was a false prophet!!! - mw113, on 02/27/2008, -0/+5more like exposing election fraud.
- jugglingjon, on 02/27/2008, -2/+6Yeah there's a big difference between the free market not providing the demand for certain media, and a government making the decision that an entire service should be banned for all citizens.
- Jambi, on 02/27/2008, -2/+6***** religious nutjobs that want to force us to share their idiotic taboos.
- NuWeb, on 02/27/2008, -1/+5DIGG DOES NOT LIKE CENSORSHIP, THE INTERNET SHOULD BE FREE.
South Park has a regular character of Jesus ! ... The *NEW religion: Islam should not be allowed to censor the worlds views.
.. GOOGLE first bows down to China's censorship now they censor for Pakistan.
What happened to google's ethical internet usage, doing the best for the net. - gstep, on 02/27/2008, -4/+7I think you're overlooking the first ammendment buddy. Al Jazeera cannot be banned, it would be unconstitutional. For the record, Bush didn't actually order that they be bombed. He may have joked about it in a meeting with Tony Blair, but nothing more. All of this was reported in The Daily Mirror, which is a tabloid and not always honest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Jazeera_bombing_me ...
- RealmDown, on 02/27/2008, -0/+3Already dugg down, blocked and reported as offensive.
- inactive, on 02/27/2008, -0/+3DiggsOnlyJew is just a damn troll. Ignore her
- adrames, on 02/27/2008, -0/+3You don't see Christians getting all riled up about Jesus and Santa repeatedly getting killed on South Park.
