- atdigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15fust use PDFCreator http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Or use OpenOffice (OpenOffice.org), which has built in PDF export.
- thunderer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8In OS X, there's an option on every print prompt to "Save as PDF". Encrypted PDF and compressed PDF as well.
- DoubtfulSalmon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@subbzzz, and @original poster:
I cannot for the life of me understand why someone would want to upload a personal/private document to a largely unknown third party (or in particular why someone would compose a document on a system owned by Google). Sure, you get your 'free' PDF, but what are *they* doing with your document? - treyjp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3where the hell have you been, and why did this make the front page?
- HMMaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2another online pdf converter:
http://convert.neevia.com
(support more format, i think) - nbl9999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2PDF Redirect: http://www.exp-systems.com/
- Dimensio, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Or, if you use Windows, install the CutePDF Writer and print any printable document to a PDF file.
The user testimonial offers the only real need for this software (unless no free conversion tools exist for Linux or OS X): when you need a PDF and don't have Admin rights to the machine (though I install CutePDF on user machines at work) - Langford, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4GSview can act as a front-end for Ghostscript, which can extract text from some PDFs. It really depends on how each particular PDF was created.
Of course, you could just try to select and copy text while viewing in Acrobat Reader also. - Triene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry, guys... when I read this headline I just said, "huh? I can do that right now...!" "Little things" like this are why people like OSX.
Beyond me why such a universal format isn't readily available to Windows users. Are you listening, Vista guys? - bioskope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1not dugg, this tool has horrible formatting, I almost had my assignments messed up with this. If u want an online converter, the best one bar none is the one adobe themselves offer
- kevnaca, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3CutePDF is awesome when you don't have a printer readily available. It's also a big plus to preview prints before you print it out.
- nextsteposx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Only for files under 2mb, which is not that usefull
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Question: are there any programs that convert from pdf to .txt or .doc? I really need one.
- futureb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what i need is a program to convert multiple files to pdfs at one time. there are tons of free printer driver pdf programs, but i haven't found one that can do batches of docs at once.
- deweyhewson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm using PrimoPDF to print to PDF and I'm a big fan of it. Freeware, and simple to use = the best combination.
- myfanwy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yep, very useful, although personally i prefer primo pdf. on a slight aside, are there any free tools for creating 3D pdf files, from AutoCAD, for example?
- Malachai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In Linux (I use Ubuntu, but I'm positive it works in other distros), I print a document to a file using Postscript, and then run ps2pdf to convert the .ps file to a .pdf one. If it's not already installed you can get it here: http://www.ps2pdf.com/convert/index.htm
- jvicinanza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a great service. I have a MBP at home but I often need to convert docs at work and I use a operating system which is somewhat lower down the food chain.
- just1moredigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To quote Neil Patrick Harris: "Legendary!"
- fastfood15, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i use it all the time
- just1moredigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was using a freeware app as well, but this I can use from any p/c with a connection and I will no longer have to install software on my next pc...
Freeware + Ease of use = Great
Freeware + Ease of use X No software to install or maintain = The best - jackarmstrong, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Standard on a Mac?

Booya. - yakiyaki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft and Adobe aren't the best of friends, it seems. Licensing issues, I believe.
Correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know "Save as PDF" was by far the most wanted feature for this version of Office. But they couldn't agree on the licensing. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Best online pdf converter: http://www.xconv.com
(many conversions possible.) - deanlal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i use nitro pdf professional. the trial is free but I got hooked and purchased a copy for $99. i've seen it on sale recently around the 80 dollar mark. well worth the money! its really feature rich when you compare it to the free tools out there. *FutureB, nitro pdf can do what you need. one of the reasons I bought this great little tool.*
- iphoned, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Some PDF Shareware(PDF converter, creator, viewer, etc.)
http://www.soft29.com/pdf/ - alchipx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I prefer PrimoPDF personally. I've never had problems with it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Use this all the time +digg
- Marcelius, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I discovered pdf995 this morning at Majorgeeks, is very good. I don't care about the nag screen :-)
Highly recommended. - rm999, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2pdf995's printer driver is the best - any program that can print can create a pdf. Amazing product (but has a nag screen). Every computer should have this...
http://www.pdf995.com/download.html - digidelia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0cutepdf works pretty well
- superdoug, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2yes, pdf creator is very good
- subbzzz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Google's Writely [http://www.writely.com/] is good too..
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1google
- Tredici, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6@atdigg
I really am so sorry, I honestly am. I'm just so compelled to do it. I just have to. Yep, I really, really do. I hope you don't see this as an attack at your online identity, and I hope, in time, you can find it in your heart to forgive me...
Everyone, this guy just said 'fust'. - omaryak, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Use OpenOffice... or get a Mac. :o)
(Fanboy, I know, but it had to be said.)
