- zkarcher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+73Yes. goatse is superior.
- cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+52So goatse is better?
- ViceVirtue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42what if the goatse guy got a myspace page?
- walugi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+42Possible destruction of the time space continum
- christiancadeo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39The cesspool of the Internet. Not surprised.
- exobyte, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35With the recent security incodents, bad press (tonight at 11, myspace dangers) targering paranoid parents, spam background (see previous digg article), teenage following, and theories about being the primary traffic source of youtube, this article isn't surprising.
- ImaLamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28If by cesspool you mean a bunch of "users" becoming web designers then yes, it's a cesspool.
I had to break it to my dear friends who use it that I refuse to browse it. I won't go because it breaks all the rules.
Pages are: wide, use backgrounds that are the same color as the text while being photographs themselves, are more than 5 megabytes in size, have background music (loud background music), have blinking text, made up of widely contrasting colors and basically suck.
MySpace is what the web looked like in the years from 1996 to 1999/2000. - nathan8225, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23What makes you say "Surprisingly"? It has the worst UI ever.
- VioletArrows, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Because my friends were graduating and I wanted to keep in contact, I finally gave in and got a MySpace. I was denied from using most of the site because I guess there's a security measure to keep people from grabbing multiple accounts, trolling the hell out of the place and running off. But that's not what bothers me. I can understand that.
What bothered the hell out of me was how they chose to tell me this. Whenever I clicked on something I couldn't use yet, I got a blank page that only said, "acount for 7days". That's it. What the hell is that? It tells me almost nothing. They couldn't even be bothered to spell 'account' right. It's not even a full sentence! Not, "We're sorry, but in order to allow you to access all of the features of MySpace, your account must be active for at least 7 days." After seeing "acount for 7days", I just knew the place was going to be a *****-ton of fun (and I don't even have to deal with the emo teenagers with bad layouts).
The parts of me that are a simple web designer and a grammar/spelling nazi die a little every time I have to go in there. - jackspack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22Surpringly? Hardly. I have been saying this for a year and a half now. The site is slow, clunky, insecure. And that isn't the worst of it. I have seen hundreds of pc's infected directly by myspace. I refuse to go to any page on myspace because what is begat by idiots, will be sowed by us all.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20surprisingly?
the site is a pile of *****. - Steelfox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Paris Hilton isn't the goatse guy. Or is she...
- PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Just to comment on your need to "keep in contact" with your friends - MySpace is not a great mechanism for doing that. Use an IM, and email.
Just to insert my view on MySpace - I cannot *stand* MySpace pages. A supercomputer couldn't handle a MySpace page without choppiness.
MySpace sucks hard - it's success is based on the fact that everyones friends are using it, because their friends are using it. No one in their right mind can find the site great by any means.
We call it a trend, a fad. It will die, oh yes, it will die. And when it does, we will laugh, and rejoyce, and drink and dance. - generalleoff, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18I love how they put Windows Update in #16 and then went on to say how hard it is. You just press a damn button. I mean if the guys at PC World don't know how to sue Windows Update lets just say I'm glad I don't depend on them for any real information.
- garreh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Well I have another one: PCWorld is #1 for ripped off prices. But yeh, myspace is awful. Die.
- ePlus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Dugg, because MySpace = Crap.
- simd, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2290 million users, the world biggest forum for new music and talent and unprecidented levels of networking and socialisting.
Yep - proof that we tech people don't have a cluse when it comes to understanding what makes success on the web. MySpace is successful by anyone's definition. Great design and CSS compliant code doesn't make up for a ***** idea. - johnnyrocket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Whew, I thought it was just me, I just don't get mySpace. I figure it's a prime example of mass hysteria. Sort of the Pet Rock of the 21st century.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Horrid user interface, totally driven on hype, and no social, technical or any other redeeming value.
It should be #1
How has MySpace improved the internet or the world? - readme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14myspace is the ass crack of the internet.
- wirah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Haha. Music to my ears!
Seriously... this made my day! - afrazkhan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9
Wow, I thought I was the only one.
We're not being snobs, geeks have a right to an opinion too (we just don't force it down people's throats a la myspace.com). - stmiller, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Anyone see this one on the list:
16. Microsoft Windows Update
Heh. - sldSquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Um, dupe. Come on, it was on the front page yesterday.
http://www.digg.com/tech_deals/The_25_Worst_Web_Sites_2 - mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@garreh: I know how you feel but... the people of the US don't know what PC World is. We have CompUSA to thank for that. Still, CompUSA doesn't rip us off nearly as bad as PCWorld. Come on... £9 ($18) for a can of compressed air!? wtf!?
- VioletArrows, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@ViceVirtue
Who says he doesn't have one? Paris Hilton's got at least 40. :p - cody50, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Another terrible UI is yahoo Groups. I have to use it for school and it bugs the hell out of me.
- jcidiotashram, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5do we really need somebody to tell that myspace is really a bad site.
i thought everybody already knew that - crashingechelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, but if you use software update on a mac. It's much more cleaner and easier to us and it's also built into the OS so you don't have to launch IE to get your updates.
Also I can sorta see where they're coming from on this, I've had my fair set of problems from using Windows/Microsoft Update. - crashingechelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5yeah, i think i'm one of the few that got it for free, i walked outside and picked him off my front lawn
- longzero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4it hasn't.
- betona, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I thought all you college kids used Facebook to keep in touch.
You might look into LinkedIn as well, as I use it quite a bit professionally for a variety of reasons. It's not the be-all end-all, but it has its plusses. - jamesacres, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Personally I still think http://www.ty.com is the worst website on the net!
- Tanbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hotmail is #20. Would have to agree with that, maybe should be even higher up.
- blueZhift, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I got a few laughs out of this. I generally try to keep up with web trends so I'd been thinking about joining MySpace to see how it works. But the sheer ugliness of the main site, not to mention most of the user sites I've seen totally turned me off. And now many user sites play music too, ugly and noisy...meh... I'm sure there must be some MySpace sites that are pretty, but I sure haven't found them yet!
- thewhitefedora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Microsoft made the list twice. Hmm.
- hyperfocal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2$50,000 for magazine writers? You're being awfully generous.
- aznboi04k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2no surprise that it's the worst site EVER.
- omnithought, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm not surprised. Even though I still use it, I've always thought it's too busy, it's ugly, and way too glitchy.
- creacher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"And in a place where "U are soooooooo hot!!!" passes for wit, MySpace isn't doing much to elevate the level of social discourse."
Hahah brilliant! Thank you, PCWorld. - jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7myspace is complete *****, thats why
- justinjacobs, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Myspace just doesn't offer the "8 phases of goatse"
http://www.chaffinchshoelace.com/view/1104/ - linuxpenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2how is any of this a surprise? MySpace sucks, as does hotmail.
- speaker219, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Here is the complete list of the top 25 worst sites:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,127116-page,8-c,sites/article.html - SebastianR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This does not suprise me. MySpace is an eyesore
- Brahma, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7I don't understand why is Microsoft Windows Update site is in the list..The author clearly seems to be biased. As far as I am concerned, the site is as easy as it can get. Also, there are tons of other sites which work only with IE. Not that it is a good thing, but that isn't a good enough reason to make it one of the worst site. But as they say "They don't boo nobody"..
- irchs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought I was the only one! :)
Long may reviews like this continue :)
Jan - VioletArrows, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@PAJK - We do, but passing around mass emails of each other's rantings every day gets old pretty quick. My mailbox is already treading towards full from work related crap.
@ betona. ALL of my friends have a MySpace, but only half of them have a Facebook. And they're still miffed over the whole profile stalking debacle the other week. It's also easier for us to get MySpaces (oh the irony), because using our school's email is an even more frustrating ordeal in itself. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9We have this article on front page already:
http://digg.com/tech_deals/The_25_Worst_Web_Sites_2 - monkeyboy8686, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Finally, somebody is saying what we've all been thinking... and saying. :)
