- a10webb, on 01/29/2008, -0/+81I'm glad I slammed them when they had the commenting open. Comcast needs to open their eyes before I, oh wait I can't get anything else b/c they have a contract with the city.......***** Comcast.
- xmuskrat, on 01/29/2008, -1/+69I can't even download a world of warcraft patch and check my email. Crazy stuff.
- Misinformant, on 01/29/2008, -5/+42Is "CommieCast" trademarked?
- Phantastica, on 01/29/2008, -0/+33Time Warner Cable has been blocking my access to Joost for months. It's wrong that they're blocking a totally legit service....that just happens to pose a threat to their cable and on demand services. Not that Joost is about to take away all of their customers, but clearly TWC is trying to take a big ***** on IPTV.
- LordVance, on 01/30/2008, -0/+30***** the people that do not understand many areas of the country do not have a choice. Yes, even right here in New Egypt, NJ the only high speed provider (with the exception of satellite) is Comcast at the moment. It's com-*****-tastic!
- AvronC, on 01/30/2008, -0/+28Such complete *****. Its a ***** monopoly and we all know it, oh nm I forgot I always have dial up as an option........
- PizzaPops, on 01/29/2008, -1/+22I hope Comcast goes down in flames!
It's a shame that these kind of business practices are still in place. I can't believe that we are so way behind Japan and South Korea when it comes to Internet access speeds here in North America not to mention being so severely limited in our bandwidth usage... I feel for you Comcast subscribers probably locked in by contract for x amount of years. I too know what it feels like to be throttled, but it only happens to me near the end of the month when I am getting close to my bandwidth cap. Down with bandwidth caps! - FredFredrickson, on 01/29/2008, -5/+25WoW players have a need for communication outside the game now?
- acceleriter, on 01/30/2008, -0/+18I'm on Comcast and tried to submit a complaint, but every time I'd click submit, the connection was be reset.
- code, on 01/29/2008, -1/+17wow, a user complaining about good content actually getting promoted. who cares how many diggs it has to get promoted? the content "got here" read their blog posts first if you're gonna complain. they explain some stuff about their algorithm
- DeathfireD, on 01/29/2008, -0/+14Anything that uses the bittorrent protocol or similar protocols have been throttled to death. Not to mention now, if you don't encrypt your legitimate traffic, your Internet speeds slow down to a crawl. My Vonage service suck even more now thanks to Comcast.
- cigawoot, on 01/30/2008, -3/+17Well, I do use email, and World of Warcraft patches are distributed via bittorrent using an official Blizzard tracker.
Meh. - OrderedChaos, on 01/29/2008, -8/+22***** the system of competition that gives me the choice of Comcast with high speeds some of the time, or AT&T with 3mbs dsl. What a choice.
- a10webb, on 01/29/2008, -1/+14Digg recently changed the algorithm for articles reaching the front page.
- Delber, on 01/30/2008, -0/+13I really wish same thing could happen to Canadian ISPs who throttle traffic, but there is not enough outrage in Canada...
- AlienMushroom, on 02/21/2008, -1/+13Well, my 8Mbps down/1Mbps up line is now 2Mbps down/10Kbps up.
- Firehed, on 01/30/2008, -1/+12If they were "CommieCast" then they'd help you seed. Or are you yet another that just uses communism as a dirty word not knowing that Bit-torrent is a perfect example of what communism looks like when it works?
- inactive, on 01/29/2008, -1/+11Its all a plot to keep from having to upgrade their network, sell you an unlimited plan and then limit it in anyway possible, the fcc should punish them for this. I guess we will see whos side the fcc is really on after this is over.
- FredFredrickson, on 01/29/2008, -0/+9I'm glad I got on Yahoo DSL... but it's through AT&T, so I'm sure I'll get boned soon enough. In the meantime, better watch what I say about how bad they are - most ISP's will cut your service if they find out you're using it to trash talk them. *****, in my opinion, but it happens.
- pin0chet, on 01/30/2008, -0/+8I think when OP referenced email, he was referring to LotusNotes, which Sandvine supposedly hinders.
- geor6cle, on 01/30/2008, -1/+9I agree the FCC "should" punish them over this. But, lets not delude ourselves, whose side do you think they are on? It ain't ours.
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -0/+7Comcast sucks balls. They also destroyed TechTV. ***** them.
- inactive, on 01/29/2008, -1/+8We all probably know whose side the FCC is on, unfortunately. I'm not pro-pirate, but this goes way, way beyond that. There are alternatives to Comcast; use them. I switched to Qwest after I found out that they'd decided to act like they'd actually heard of the Constitution.
- thestaton, on 01/30/2008, -0/+7When Comcast installed VOIP in my area, they immediately started to net-shape all Vonage connections. In turn this made the service stop working, and I had to eat a 40 dollar early termination fee. ***** You *****.
- VelvetoneFusion, on 01/30/2008, -0/+7Normally I'd care about a Comcast internet news story, but...we just got the flyer that Verizon FiOS is about to be up and running in our area.
- Nattybumpoe, on 01/30/2008, -0/+6Anyone who has comcast as a service provider, you can go to this site to opt out of the arbitration clause in your service contract.
https://www.comcast.com/ARBITRATIONOPTOUT/default. ...
The government required them to do this because they have such shady business practices. If you ever have a dispute with comcast you DO NOT want to have to deal with a slanted arbitrator (which you didn't consent to in the first place).
So, as my contracts professor suggested, if you want to opt out, go to the above address. - pin0chet, on 01/30/2008, -0/+6200GB really isn't that much anymore and I can't believe Comcast terminates customers who use that much (or should I say that little). Comcast's invisi-cap is dumb, but compared to Time Warner and Cox's absurdly low 60GB caps it doesn't look that bad I guess.
How about if you go over 200GB, you pay Comcast an extra 50 cents per gigabyte? None of this $7.50 per GB crap. Amazon S3 charges $0.18 per GB transferred, although admittedly they don't have to pay for the last mile as Comcast does. Why can't ISPs come up with a reasonable metered-pricing system? - Nattybumpoe, on 01/30/2008, -1/+7I don't want to spam you guys with this, but you may want to do this.
https://www.comcast.com/ARBITRATIONOPTOUT/default. ...
See comment below for further explanation. - carpespasm, on 01/30/2008, -0/+6I just switched to Clearwire and they're cheaper with the same speed.
- Malevolant, on 01/30/2008, -4/+9Comcast is in business to make money. Derive them of said money would change the way they do things. Why don't comcast subscribers boycott their services in massive numbers? Oh yea, it's too much to ask to go with a slower service rather than getting bent over by them and taking it up the ass. Consumers have a path to retribution, but they'll just whine about it and it'll be business as usual, for comcast. It's sad because a massive boycott would change things for their subscribers.
BTW two words...class action - Chaoticfist, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5The only provider who does it is rogers i think. But bell is going to start soon to. Hopefully they wont.
- antifreeze11, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5Bell has already started. I haven't figured out the schedule but I'm sure you can find it. My torrent speeds (for linux ISOs of course) drop to less than 30KB/s up and down until 1AM EST. I'm not sure why i haven't switched to Tekksavvy yet.
- SniperGX1, on 01/30/2008, -2/+7In many areas of the country there is no choice. Esp if you live in housing complexes where they allow only lamecast and no DSL.
- pin0chet, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5The day I get the FiOS flier in my mailbox.. well lets just say there will be a protein stain to wash out.
- derek20cali, on 01/29/2008, -1/+6Wow, the difference between the comments on digg and slashdot is like night and day.
- WarMace, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5Campton, NH You get Comcast or nothing.
Cable choices include 12$basic or $65 reg with no in-between options
Internet choices include NO dialup, NO DSL, and $65 broadband.
My parents pay $130 a month for the Privledge to watch Cops, and send e-mail. - pin0chet, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5Clearwire has good speeds and nice prices, but horrible ToS. They have a 1-year contract, but if you go over your bandwidth limits they boot you--but you STILL have to pay the duration of the contract! How niggardly. Read the Wikipedia article on Clearwire for more on their criticism.
- Jade10145, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4Sorry for the comment abuse I really just feel that the Presidents e-mail should be out there (in case you didn't want to read my whole story
brian_roberts@comcast.com - AvangionQ, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4""On numerous occasions, my access to legal BitTorrent files was cut off by Comcast," a systems administrator based in Indianapolis wrote to the FCC shortly after the proceeding began. "During this period, I managed to troubleshoot all other possible causes of this issue, and it was my conclusion (speaking as a competent IT administrator) that this could only be occurring due to direct action at the ISP (Comcast) level."" ... now begins the fight for Net Neutrality -- we the people versus corporate telecoms ... this may become the next hot button issue for the 2008 presidential election.
- ImmortalLegend, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4***** RIAA and Comcast
- troye, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4Your upload rate is 50% faster than my download rate with RoadRunner.
- phredwolf, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4Where does one go to submit a complaint? My ssh connections to work keep dropping.
- dusanmal, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4Other internet providers should be scrutinized too. I suspect many are doing similar if not identical shenanigans. Any of you EFF experts out there: test Verizon DSL. My personal experience of Verizon DSL vs. independent DSL provider (COPOWI) leasing the same Verizon lines at the same contract speed specifications: P2P performance literally 8-10 times faster with COPOWI; large file ftp transfer via Verizon DSL almost always experienced breakdowns at 400-500MB of data vs. COPOWi service with which I haven't had any disruptions for many GB sized files over 3 months that I am using them. Coincidence?
- Jade10145, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3I agree to the comment by Jambi regarding Fireheds comment. Yet I also agree with Fireheds comment regarding how communism and bit torrent are alike. Either way, its just a ***** joke, CommieCast.
- AzureRise, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3Dial up, is never, an option. Don't even joke. That's like going back to jerking off after you've actually gotten some.
- Jambi, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3No one knows what Communism looks like when it works, because it never has. On a small scale, it's called anarcho-socialism, but it'll never move beyond the small scale because of the corrupting influence of power on a large scale. Even in a decentralized system, some end up with more pull than others...given time, it'd fail just as badly as the Soviet centralized totalitarian system did. No political system is immune to corruption, one with easy access to resources (at first) for those who would seek to accumulate power, even less so.
- VeganG, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3Is that a trick question? Lots of people? Tons of people? How do you get your precious Linux distros?
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3Comcast is a media company from whom selling access to television shows, movies, and other video content is one of their main revenue streams. Thus, they do have a self-interest in blocking P2P even if there is collateral damage of legit applications.
Not saying I agree but those are the facts. - Jade10145, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3I have recently been e-mailing Comcast about recent price increases, misinformation about HD, and general lack of service for price... Here is the last letter
I apologized for not getting back to you sooner.
In your email you explained your concerns with the price adjustment
questioning why there was an adjustment. With our Digital Cable service
we provide thousands of new ON DEMAND programs, with 8,000 titles per
month 95% of that is free programming with your package subscription. We
also provide
the most HD choices with 100 hours of HD VOD programs a month.
In recent years Comcast has also introduced new video products and
features such as Dual-tuner DVRs. We have also improved our programming
guide to make it easier and faster to find shows, set parental controls
and personalize the look of the guide. In the past three years, we've
increased our speeds four times at no additional charge and introduced
more than 65 new features on Comcast.net for no additional charge.
Customer's can also receive nearly $115 in value with Comcast's McAfee
Internet Security Suite to protect their households and enhance their
online experience.
In your original correspondence you explained your disappointment with
Comcast Customer Service. Comcast is dedicated to providing our
customers with quality customer service on a local level. We are
improving customer service by expanding our call centers, providing 24
hour local customer care and adding new ways to interact with our
employees with our on-line chat services.
In order to address your request for promotional and pricing information
please contact 1-800-Comcast and speak to one of our Customer Account
Representative. They will be able to provide our most updated
promotional information.
Regards,
Nancy Tardif
My response
I would like to let you know that your company has been of absolutely no help to me. You claim that there have been so many advancements in your service yet most come at additional costs. For example you mention dual tuner DVR's. Well I might remind you that this option come at an additional cost. You mention that you have increased your speeds, yet Comcast is currently being accused (with much merit), of throttling traffic to competing services such as internet based television services. I have already placed a complaint with the BBB, and I am looking into Verizon Fios. Further more, I will suggest to all of my friends to avoid Comcast at all costs.
The rest of the letters from these jerk offs are worse..
