BOOOO!
OK, pr0n for some, tiny American flags for others:
YAAAY!!! - badqat, on 12/01/2008, -3/+79Ok...so all Americans get "free"* internet...although parts of it are censored out. First pr0n, then political speech, etc.
No thanks...
*nothing is free, you ought to know we'll pay for it some way. - cyrusuncc, on 12/01/2008, -6/+78Porn is why the Internet exists!
- gamebittk, on 12/01/2008, -2/+53Free wireless internet would be a great thing, but not when the government begins to censor content.
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -0/+32In related news, the internet has developed a plan to provide all Americans free access to the FCC, minus Kevin J. Martin.
- RJ0534, on 12/01/2008, -0/+28Eventually free wireless internet will be necessary as it replaces television - the problem is the television model doesn't fit the internet. The FCC can't regulate the internet like it can television shows, so they might as well leave it up to the citizens to decide what to block using their own software. If you don't want kids watching porn, the parents can block it. Its not that hard.
- DeadSkinMask, on 12/02/2008, -2/+27If this were to happen, there would only be about 60 sites left on the internet.
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -1/+26We have always been at war with Eastasia.
- arkaycee, on 12/03/2008, -0/+20“I am fairly sure that if they took porn off the internet, there would only be one website left and it would be called 'bring back the porn.'”

- iceman0113, on 12/02/2008, -0/+15It's not, but most parents out there are morons and would rather have the government do it for them than do it themselves.
- qwertyxuiop, on 12/03/2008, -3/+17Whatever happened to conservatives being in favor of market and personal freedom?
I thought they were supposed to hate the "nanny state" - Jabb0, on 12/02/2008, -5/+18Thats why he is the Outgoing FCC Chairman...
- oboshoe, on 12/03/2008, -0/+12Its hard enough to get all the porn tracks off one PC, let alone an entire Internet.
- BelatedHero, on 12/03/2008, -1/+12That's their own problem.
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 12/02/2008, -2/+12I doubt this is how Martin is looking at it, but the problem is one of liability more so than morality. If a government entity provides access to a type of material, they're effectively enabling it. By the same logic that lets someone sue a local municipality because they tripped on a public sidewalk, so too could someone sue the government office that provides free interweb access for not exercising their due diligence to keep children from viewing adult material.
However if Martin were applying that logic, he'd also want such internet access to filter out other potentially problematic categories of web content such as spyware sources, hate sites, and gambling.
I'm no fan of internet censorship, but the only approach he could take and not be a complete dick is one of "we're not protecting everyone's morality, we're just exercising our due diligence so we're not as likely to get sued". - shadowspawn, on 12/02/2008, -0/+9Free wireless is kinda funky. Me and a friend have a channel bonding theory working over VPN right now over three VZW cards. We really think we can make a "hot spot" that bonds 4 channels over VPN tunneled to a squid proxy on a different ISP. So far we've reached some good numbers with just VZW's tech. (***** try to hang you up if there's idle time, hence the VPN)
An "all in one" box that has wifi and these new cards. It's just to prove a point, if anyone's interested. - hurrayforschool, on 12/03/2008, -0/+9Outgoing FCC Chairman Wants to Breed Chickens Without Having To Deal With Eggs

- fasda, on 12/03/2008, -0/+7Why you think the net was born?
- molotovcat, on 12/03/2008, -1/+8The internet is for porn!
- Sage920, on 12/03/2008, -0/+7I knew someone here was going to correct him on that.
- fasda, on 12/03/2008, -2/+9why should we let the government know where we are where going online how long we spend there. This series of tubes is fairly anonymous I and try to see that it stays that way.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+6That many?
- benologist, on 12/03/2008, -0/+6There is very little that is anonymous about your adventures on the internet.
- Bith8654, on 12/03/2008, -0/+6@BelatedHero: And when they try to "solve" their own problem by enacting laws, it becomes your problem. Isn't sharing awesome?!
- CalmLlama, on 12/03/2008, -0/+6This has nothing to do with what you are talking about.
- Nerys, on 12/03/2008, -0/+6You miss the damned point
COMCAST owns the cable running to my house
I OWN the airwaves. The airwaves are PUBLIC PROPERTY the FCC should have NO SAY in what is pushed over them.
The result of an FCC is the ELIMINATION of public airwaves the ELIMINATIONS of a massive portion of free speech and free press.
Now you either BUY IT or you don't HAVE those rights any longer. - joshua5, on 12/03/2008, -0/+6Well then what's the point?
- ianthepetrock, on 12/03/2008, -0/+6The government has always censored content and I love big brother.

- thezackisback89, on 12/03/2008, -1/+6If they ban pr0n, they should also ban LOLcats, WoW, and Rick Astley...
:-|
The internet cannot be censored, because as soon as one thing gets banned, where does it stop?
It impedes on our freedom of speech a.k.a. 1st Amendment.
Free internet = good idea, but needs elaboration
Free internet w/o pr0n = no internet at all - kindablue59, on 12/03/2008, -1/+5I don't know wether to digg because of insightful sarcasm, or burry because of incredible stupidity...
- TsuruchiBrian, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4Let me guess..... this is in some way related to ...... "Judeo-Christianity"
If you ask me, this ***** is more trouble than it's worth. - clickmyface, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4If the government could be held liable for minors accessing porn on the internet then so would Comcast, Verizon, and every other internet provider. All the gov. has to do is require you to sign an agreement.
The internet backbones already travel through our public streets and the broadcast spectrum is controlled and owned by the FCC, funded by US tax dollars, and run by appointments of the president and congress. The FCC decides how to divide up the airwaves. They essentially rent them out to TV and tech companies. Get an initiative in the general election, and the US could have free public wifi. - inactive, on 12/03/2008, -1/+5That ***** turd is a Bushie. You just know he is up to no good. I don’t want to hear the details of this plan to know it is 100% evil. For the love of God somebody stop him.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -1/+5go ahead, I'd probably get a lot more work done.

- KnutTheBear, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4These guys are *****. I approve of Cowboy Digg.
- CalmLlama, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4The definition of the word pornography encompasses sexual activities as well as many non-sexual activities. A ban on pornography could also mean a ban on political speech, news stories, and anything else deemed offensive by the government. And, in order to enforce this ban on porn, the government would have to filter+save+look at the stuff you send and get over the internet. Do you really want the government to have a copy of that picture your girl sent you the other night?
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4I know your intentions are pure. But this plan main goal is NOT! Free access, It’s government sponsored censorship. Free access is a sweetener so the poison doesn’t taste too bad at first. Free Internet is around the corner, we don’t need one from this *****.
- zbeast, on 12/03/2008, -1/+5I'm all for free internet but i'm totally against filtering.
If end users want to filter there access then more power to them.
Do people really want the internet filtered like it is in China and the Middle East.
You know if you give the government and inch they will take a mile.
We'll just block porn that all... Ya right. - slabdigger, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4yay. 32 channels of free internet!
- coldkill3r, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4These aren't true conservatives.
- redgiemental, on 12/03/2008, -0/+3People think too much for the children. Everyone else needs to be considered and have freedom too!
