The *actual* algorithm is describe here:
http://www-db.stanford.edu/~backrub/google.html - RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23WTF? Blog Spam with 145 diggs?
This article has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the Original Google Algorithm - other than the ***** lipservice they give it in the sidebar... the same lipservice given in the description on this page.
To save anyone the trouble of having to go to this lameass site... it's just a 6-year old's photoshop job of a picture of Google's founders saying "All your search are belong to us" - how very worth your time, I'm sure. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12you get 3 minutes *****
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The article about the original google PR is a dupe. Your ***** blog is NOT relevant content.
How many zombie accounts do you have to use to get a piece-of-***** irrelevant story like this to the front page? - gekkokid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"Check the photo!" - why would i need to check an old photo for, this is spam, it has nothing to do with the Original Google Algorithm from Stanford
- 15charmaxwtf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And when are they going to make google fast again?
It takes ~0.5s. It used to be less than 0.1. This decreases the effectiveness of google suggest and obviously makes pages load slower. - deluxndotcom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I used that photo of Gates in a presentation that I did for my speach class and said, "I mean, do you really want this guy making your software for you?" .....The presentation was on Steve Jobs by the way.....hehe
- JoeWall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2so do they still use d=0.85 for the dampening factor?
and about the /C(Tn) part, does that mean that the less outgoing links i put in a page, the higher PR the page will get? - Rhomboid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you just want to know how PageRank works, there are much better sites, like this one: http://www.iprcom.com/papers/pagerank/
- JoeWall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3does anyone know if google still uses the algorithm : PR(A) = (1-d) + d (PR(T1)/C(T1) + ... + PR(Tn)/C(Tn)) as quoted in the paper ?
- Keltic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 Too many hate mongers out there today. if you don't like the article then don't digg it and move on, get a life, and buy your own cheese for that whine because no one here is going to give it to you. Personally, I liked the piece. Although I could have done with out the Gates crotch highlight.
- milezteg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5JoeWall: The google PR code was reverse engineered from the toolbar quite some time ago...But that's another discussion...
Whats with all the hatemongering on bloggers posting relevent entries with relevent links to relevent content on their same themed weblogs? Spam?! You guys need to discover diazapam or move out of your parents basements.
Anyways thanks to the people who have not seen this paper and gave me a nod. Was cool to see the digg effect for the first time ;) - milezteg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am not sure what the problem is but the digg mafia seem to have managed to get this story removed. It cannot even be found by searching for it, or browsing, unless I am misunderstanding the system. You can see all the curiously negative diggs next to the top posters.
So I guess this story was not wanted or needed after all regardless of all these diggs. Luckily I have more important things to do. Too bad the same cannot be said of some of posters in this thread.
On that note thanks to those who did try to engage in some dialogue amongst the hate blather. - icefalkon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree with Keltic, what's with all this hate *****? WTF?
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The only relevant part is a duplicate article. The headline is misleading, and the blog that hosts this article is a piece of crap. All of those things combine to piss off a lot of digg.com users.
If people would stop digging based on the title alone, and actually view articles, fewer crappy things like this would get to the front page.
People who add "digg this" crap to their blogs should be shot, and banned from submitting things to Digg. - Castaway68, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why was it removed,,seemed like a great post to me,,*****.
- victorycig, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Wow, some unnecessarily negative comments here.
Yes, the story links to a blog. No, the blog entry is not irrelevant--the link to the essay in question is the first link in the article, and it's clearly displayed in the second paragraph.
And besides, the pictures *are* funny. Even if I've seen them before. - gekkokid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1quote "I added a bunch more content to this entry as I never really intended this story to get dugg"
why submit it then? - marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That equation is probably still there, but with a few hundred parameters more.
- thbt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Exactly. I actually modded up a few of his initial comments because I thought they were harshly and unnecessarily modded down, but then I read more comments. The more milezteg tries to explain himself, the more I get the impression that he's just some kid who wants to generate traffic to his blog and get his 15 minutes of fame. I don't think I've ever seen a digg story with so many comments from the submitter. Completely self-serving.
- hooha12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Gates picture alone was worth the time. Glad a couple of folks posted to blogs.
- oboreruhito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1-digg for using "Like seriously"
- jtarchie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The current Page Rank algorithm I believe is still implemented in Google. That is just the basis of the entire Google search engine. Page Rank provides a numerical value of how pages link together, but Google also takes into consider many factors such as HTML placement, word placement, words associated with a link, etc... when it calculates your overall rank. This section was however either removed or misplaced in the paper on the website. What most people do not remember is that the founders of Google dropped out to further Google, so I believer that there final paper was never released. This is good because the overlal algorithm of Google has been kept secret.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8You must be new here. :)
- milezteg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3LOL! Good call cynic. Page needs some tweezers.
- tkromo, on 02/28/2009, -0/+0i'm thinking the same in why they removed it because it was considered to me to be a decent post
http://www.SpreadingYourKnowledge.com - milezteg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1gekko: Well if you actually read the article I said in the 2nd paragraph I submiited it because "I'm surprised I don't see this link dropped more."
Like seriously:
A) It is 1000% relevent to my blog. Full stop.
B) The link to the paper in question was clearly posted.
C) I thought it was a fun post for readers of my blog. - milezteg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I added a bunch more content to this entry as I never really intended this story to get dugg.
Check out Google's first PC - outfitted with a Lego case mod. I hadn't seen this but it's legit - some geeky piece of kit.
Oh and thanks Victory. Appreciate the kind words. - cynicdave, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1It's official! The base is belong to unibrows!
- milezteg, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2delux: I updated the post with the other gates photo I had. I mean its so tragically hilarious. Yeah and I swear I had nothing to do with the red outline of Bill's bulge in the photo. SWEAR!
JoeWall: Feel free to email me and I will send you what you're after ;) - netbear, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8The photo of Gates is classic. (See link @ the 2nd comment.) Caption contest anyone?
"My drugs just kicked-in and I never realized how comfortable this desk is." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2"Surely you've read and reread..."
NO! Because I'm not a ***** cultist. Get your OWN life and stop worshipping others! - milezteg, on 10/12/2007, -15/+5Wow reporting a problem with a link actually works. Thank you friendly digg editor ;)
- thecorch, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1This is awesome.
- field4000, on 10/12/2007, -17/+5Love the photo! Especially the Mac in the background.
