- g4blows, on 11/30/2007, -11/+186You have been saying that since a year ago. I'm not saying that it is an easy thing to do but it is always right around the corner.
- kevinrose, on 11/30/2007, -103/+254We're launching images and redoing the comments system. After that we'll be focused on squashing a lot of these bugs. Stay tuned, a lot of this coming very soon. Thanks for the post.
- masterc, on 11/30/2007, -11/+98Sorry Kevin, but I had to digg you down. Every time you reply to one of these stories about problems with Digg, you always say the same thing - "Pictures are coming, comments are being worked on, kthnxbai." There's never any actual progress.
- Ramble, on 11/30/2007, -7/+82Here's a tip: Don't make it complicated like this system. A simple comments system with no JS ***** is good enough.
- Roger, on 11/30/2007, -4/+70Creating an image section takes time. Its not like one guy can code it by himself in a couple hours.
*cough* http://digpicz.com/ *cough* - UltraPenguinX, on 11/30/2007, -10/+59Problem #7: The users
- nreynolds, on 11/30/2007, -5/+51yeah. the site worked great before anyone started using it.
- rudy23, on 11/30/2007, -4/+42very soon doesnt sound too reassuring man.
- rudy23, on 11/30/2007, -5/+39I wish they had fixed the comments instead of giving us Digg the candidates.
- hackerssidekick, on 11/30/2007, -2/+35A Javascript/AJAX comments system is a good thing. However, the unecessary animations etc are not. Take a page out of reddit's book, digg, and do it right.
- Scopitone, on 11/30/2007, -31/+64Add a way to filter out Ron Paul spam.
- HayString, on 11/30/2007, -0/+31I guess I'm an idiot for thinking that he was talking about October 2007 when he said:
"We know you’re eagerly awaiting a dedicated images section. In terms of navigation and back-end code, the home page update helps pave the way for images - which we’re excited to roll out in the October timeframe." - 68024, on 11/30/2007, -2/+33There's something on your nose.
- DirtySnachez, on 11/30/2007, -11/+37..or we could migrate to reddit.com
- AmazingAndrex, on 11/30/2007, -1/+27Images in October... Riiight...
- fkr3, on 11/30/2007, -2/+25You don't understand..... they're coming, right after another stupid way to "visualize the way stories are dugg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG SCREENSAVERIZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
- EBFoxbat, on 12/01/2007, -1/+22It's past lame Kevin. For real, it's too late. It's been months since we were promised a pictures section to help unclutter things. If it has so many features that it takes that long, then you're not doing it right. You could roll out a simple section then upgrade it months later.
Sometimes I feel like it's ONLY the users that keep Digg running and that's not right. - init100, on 11/30/2007, -2/+23Why not set up a Digg bugtracker, such as Bugzilla? The current "Report a website bug" bug reporting feature feels like a black hole (no feedback), which makes me less inclined to submit reports. Who knows what happens with them? They could just be ignored for all I know.
- defectDS, on 11/30/2007, -2/+19Thank you digg for not sucking up just because it's Kevin. If you are too afraid to digg him down, just read and move along. His comments don't ALWAYS have to be +1567.
- inactive, on 11/30/2007, -1/+18They must find innovative ways to leverage the synergies that emerge from the internalized mashups and maximize stakeholder values going forward. C'mon peoplez, this stuff is hard!
- negativefx, on 11/30/2007, -9/+25Particularly UltraPenguinX
- IllBeBack, on 12/01/2007, -0/+15You think Kevin himself does any coding on the site at all? I bet he doesn't.
- dustedotnet, on 12/01/2007, -0/+15I love how people digg down those who speak the truth. :(
- VargVikernes, on 11/30/2007, -1/+16Again, no mention of a better search function. There's like 200 kb of JS in this site, yet no one seems to be able to code a decent search function.
- arbulus, on 12/01/2007, -1/+15you spelled intentional wrong.
- JasonCox, on 11/30/2007, -2/+16Just fix the damn authentication system, I should *not* have to relogin every 5 minutes because Digg loses my session data.
- banmaster, on 12/01/2007, -0/+13Surely it would be far better to squash the bugs BEFORE adding the extra functionality thats been promised for ages.
- elvenseven, on 12/01/2007, -2/+15Is there a chance to bury him? Or would he manually edit his diggs on the database. lol
- Crath, on 11/30/2007, -2/+15That would be your internet...
- smacksaw, on 11/30/2007, -2/+14The suggestion that is left out is a little icon of two windows next to the top 10 articles so I can open the article instead of the comments. I don't always want to see the comments and the top 10 won't let you have the article without viewing comments.
Beside that, you should take the Bury dropdown and put it on the Digg It under each Digg button. For obvious reasons... - BOFH2, on 11/30/2007, -2/+14Funny thing when I clicked on the Digg icon it told me that I was not logged in. Nice.
- smacksaw, on 11/30/2007, -7/+18You should go to Reddit. It's just like Digg, but without the users.
- HayString, on 11/30/2007, -2/+13But Digg is just so much prettier.
- sp1keNARF, on 11/30/2007, -1/+12as opposed to a private letter, that wouldn't be available for any of us to read.
- skyfire1, on 12/01/2007, -0/+10I blocked him.
- rudy23, on 11/30/2007, -3/+13Annoying Bug #1. getting logged out of digg like at least 10 times out of the 20 times I access digg.
- defectDS, on 11/30/2007, -0/+10It was a reference to Kanye's "George Bush hates black people." But whatever...
- tidu, on 12/01/2007, -0/+9I reported him. Hopefully he'll ban himself.
- RexMaxus, on 12/01/2007, -4/+12No, it really wasn't. You're just saying that because you want people to like you.
The new comment system is far better than the old one. It has flaws, but it is still much better.
Personally, the best comments I have ever found were the livejournal comments. Simple, clean, threaded and they always worked. - inactive, on 12/01/2007, -0/+8I don't know about you guys, but I'm constantly getting logged out. I'm not sure what the reason is.
- inactive, on 12/01/2007, -3/+11LOL, yes thanks for sacrificing Kev! You're the best! Oh wait, you're making millions off this site.
Get back to ***** work you lazy *****. - captinherb, on 12/01/2007, -0/+8There's a greasemonkey script for that
http://www.neaveru.com/digg/index.html - skinturtle, on 11/30/2007, -1/+8"the people working on the site should have no life except to work on this site."...
Well I'm assuming its the way they make their living...so yeah digg.com is their life. - estvir, on 12/01/2007, -0/+7Please don't, we like it over there without most of the Digg userbase.
- Error601, on 11/30/2007, -1/+8An open letter to people that write open letters. Ditch the stupid gimmick and just write a regular column.
- Soofi, on 12/01/2007, -1/+8If I could make a suggestion for the comment system; it would be nice if we could see the total number of diggs (up or down) on a comment. For example, if 10 people digg you up and 10 others digg you down, it would only show "1+ diggs" as if nothing happened. If there was perhaps a count display "(20) 1+ diggs" then it would give a more accurate view of the overall feeling of diggers.
It's often the case that if you have an opinion that goes against the grain, i.e. God forbid you are religious or have a faith, then you are targeted simply for that rather than the merits of your words. I only bury comments if they are spam related or if it would spare someone else from having to scroll down past pointless crap - but it seems people will use the bury feature for simple disagreements. I've also observed that for all the 'free thinkers' we like to think are using digg, there is also a very noticeable 'following the herd' sheep mentality on the comments digging system - if your comment is below the 1+ threshold at the time of the article going popular, it is likely others will follow suit and digg you down, but if you have reasonable number of positive diggs, others tend to digg you up further. I admit I am guilty of it myself sometimes, but seeing the total number of diggs on a comment would put a new perspective on things.
Just my 2 pennies. - legendxx, on 11/30/2007, -4/+11$100 on never
- legendxx, on 11/30/2007, -2/+8that is the worst idea I've ever heard. However, if you and all the other idiots want to stop visiting Digg then I'm all for it.
- wedgemartin, on 11/30/2007, -1/+7How about the page never seems to finish loading when you're using Firefox 3b1. I hate seeing that spinner go at it. I haven't snooped it to see what the hell is going on, but it's annoying.
- schoate09, on 12/01/2007, -4/+10Kevin, see this ***** comment system you used to post? Get the ***** rid of it.
