- gamebittk, on 01/06/2009, -1/+29I don't even watch TV anymore. Daily Show / Colbert Report / Prison Break / House, all on Hulu.
- dzneill, on 01/06/2009, -0/+18Internet viewing isn't perfect yet, but it's changing fast.
- allocate, on 01/06/2009, -0/+18So too does the number of people being banned from Comcast as "heavy users?"
- BullHunter, on 01/06/2009, -0/+14Bring it on! Online movies will be the way to go.
- Ragzouken, on 01/06/2009, -1/+12Just hook the computer up to the big ass-TV, you idiot.
- Eat1, on 01/06/2009, -0/+10Good riddance cable tv.
- tnerd, on 01/06/2009, -0/+8The numbers would be totally different if porn is considered too...
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+6In a years time I'd be interested to see a comparison of number of videos watched and number of comcast users throttled. Online video is eventually going to stagnate once more ISPs begin to throttle bandwidth.
- DigitalisAkujin, on 01/06/2009, -0/+6Dear GE and Viacom,
Start broadcasting actual channels online.
Thanks,
Internet - mr5150, on 01/06/2009, -0/+612.7 Billion Videos watched...damn that's a lot of time, wonder how many of those were during work time?
- elstevo, on 01/06/2009, -0/+6Thank you for shifting the hyphen a la http://xkcd.com/37/
- borez, on 01/06/2009, -0/+5What with a combination of bittorent, BBC iPlayer and now Hulu, my widescreen TV has been sitting unused in the corner of my flat for 3 years now, looking very sorry for itself.
FTR: I'm moving in two weeks and I'm wondering if I'm even going to bother taking it with me. - dtstuff9, on 01/06/2009, -1/+5So I guess you don't like sports.
- carlosos, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4@solid12345
I have never seen a computer that uses that much power. While gaming the highest that I got was around 250Watt.
I currently have a custom build HTPC connected to my TV and that uses much less power. Just got a AMD X2 4850e CPU and 780g based motherboard with one 120gb hard drive and that is all needed to run a HTPC (+Remote control to make it easier to use). Cost to build all this was $250 and I save that money within a few months since I don't pay for cable TV and I can watch when I want to and not when something shows up on TV. If you have a cable box that runs 24/7 (normally doesn't use much less power if turned off) than I probably use less power over all by just turning the PC on when I need it. - waddles411, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4I bet youporn had a lot to do with the jump.
- palmer, on 01/06/2009, -1/+5How nice and spammy of you.
BURIED. - Murdats, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4one network?
I believe its called the INTERnet not "the network". it is in fact lots of networks interconnected. I guess you could call this meta-network one network but then why couldn't it carry all of that? the only reason is greed and morons. - smoger, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4funny this should be posted today. i just cancelled my cable tv 2 nights ago.
i use PlayOn(cost: $30 one time) to watch Hulu on my 42" LCD via my Xbox360(also works on PS3, and also streams Youtube and Netflix). in addition to that, i have a $10 Netflix account which lets me stream all that stuff as well. - smoger, on 01/06/2009, -1/+5you guys have a really unrealistic belief on the size of online videos vs. your bandwidth cap on comcast. sit down some day and do the math.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3I bet more people are watching porn too. I sure use redtube and youporn a lot more than I did last year!
- ralftom, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3There are always ways to improve things online.
- BigCalhoun, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3I've seen some good documentaries on Google and there are some interesting producers to be found on YouTube. Sometimes it's more entertaining to watch online plus you can choose what to watch and when.
- carlosos, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3It is just a matter of time until you can watch more sports online.
- jerrycan, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3An eztv.it rss feed being filitered by for the shows I want with utorrent and an xbox with xbmc to play them back on my big screen tv. I'm never going back.
I love sitting down to watch tv when I want and having a big queue of commercial free programming ready for me. - seobro, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3CONcastic hates Hulu. I mean people now watch TV over IP. Times for the telephone companies to crush cable. I use a digital projector to get a big image when I want to see a movie over the web.
- awolfe91, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3Grab an Xbox 360 and put it to good use
- Meocross, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3Meh and they are surprised why, i expect Online video viewing to go way past 63% in the next few months, the current shows on tv are just crap as well as the season wait time.
- Heiminator, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3...or know how to use bittorrent...
- dragonrebornn, on 01/07/2009, -0/+3Hulu is great. Since I've known about that site I've watched a lot more TV on the internet. Dr. Horrible!
- Cancerous, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2Only that much? Seriously?
- carlosos, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Than leave that TV behind. I moved about 2 months ago and also left the old CRT TV behind. With widescreen TV I thought it would be a big Plasma or LCD for the living room but your monitor is already a good size for a small room.
- mastermemorex, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2But, is there still people watching TV?
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2This is a direct result of high quality porn.
- awolfe91, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2Give it time and all the major ISPs will have caps.
- tamakino, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2Soon TVs and online videos will eventually converge into one technology. Only question is if the FCC will embrace the change.
- awolfe91, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2Apparently not you
- MokaPot, on 01/06/2009, -1/+3I bet that streaming porn sites can top google without a problem, inaccurate.
And btw. TV is dead. - antdude, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2espn360.com if you can get it.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2Funny -- one of the "related posts" was "Broadband use jumps 34 percent, FCC says " I wonder if there's any connection :-)
- borez, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2To be honest it's not flatscreen so I'm leaving it behind to save my back + I have a 26" Widescreen monitor which is way better definition than my TV
- mythicflux, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2I watch on my notebook, which uses a hell of a lot less than a TV set.
- carlosos, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2Like awolfe91 said, connect something to it. There are many media player devices that you can connect so that you can watch your downloaded media on the TV. You could also use some old PC parts and build yourself a cheap HTPC so that you watch all of this on TV instead of a small monitor.
- OneNaturalOne, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2porn
- Heiminator, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2justintv.com...
- renilative, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Then T.V's should now connect to the internet too if they want to keep up...
- Baltiman, on 01/06/2009, -2/+3...IF you happen to reside in the US...or know how VPN's work!
- sankakugatame, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1And again, the Internet is not something that you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1The gay kind in particular
