- AFLunatic, on 09/28/2009, -4/+955Never had a bad experience with them in 20+ orders.. Try that with Best Buy. Love NewEgg.
- EMTtech, on 09/28/2009, -1/+493Let's hope this won't change the company we've come to know and love.
- acknotSW, on 09/28/2009, -2/+426Best customer service of any hardware site I've ever dealt with. I spent about $30,000 last year at newegg and never had a problem dealing with the few RMA's for DOA parts.
- numberneal, on 09/28/2009, -2/+330hardware heaven
- vacatola, on 09/28/2009, -0/+283In my own experience - as soon as a company goes from privately owned to publicly traded the first thing that will happen is cost-cutting, which usually means taking away whatever it is that makes NewEgg's employees happy and hard working. I hope I'm wrong.
- DirtyDiggberal, on 09/28/2009, -2/+254I feel like I've contributed $1M of their $175M goal already.
- dalittle, on 09/28/2009, -0/+243Love new egg. Even the comments in the product listings are helpful and have actual info.
- BigLou, on 09/28/2009, -0/+165NewEgg for components, MonoPrice for cables.
- bamatime, on 09/28/2009, -0/+158Newegg has completely ruined shopping at b&m stores for me. Anytime I consider buying something at Best Buy or Staples, I'm just like "***** I can get this cheaper at Newegg"
Now don't go ***** change after you go public! - MOJIRA, on 09/28/2009, -0/+156Yeah, I wonder if they'll let me add some NewEgg stock to my cart before checkout from now on.
- txballer, on 09/28/2009, -4/+130CircuitCity.com is owned by Tigerdirect.
Tigerdirect is the equivalent of cashforgold when it comes to ethical business practices. I'll just stick with newegg, amazon and buy.com. - holzp, on 09/28/2009, -1/+115I cannot get Tigers or Eggs from these companies, this is the most blatant case of false advertising since The Neverending Story.
- MrAwesomeMan, on 09/28/2009, -1/+112I wish I had $30,000 to spend on anything.
- ezran, on 09/28/2009, -2/+102I wish I have 30k to spend on Newegg
- bradleyland, on 09/28/2009, -2/+95For independent IT guys, Newegg's pricing is about as competitive as distributors like MA Labs and Ingram, and there are no quantity requirements or ridiculous shipping fees. Spending $30k a year isn't hard when you're servicing lots of clients.
- noumuon, on 09/28/2009, -2/+92you've been using a company that was founded in 2001 for 10+ years?
- pathouston22, on 09/28/2009, -2/+89***** yeah. I'll invest in them. Been buying from them since 2001.
- MaxxusFlamus, on 09/28/2009, -0/+80I'm terrified it will.
When shareholders demand stupid quarterly earnings targets corners start to get cut. - ragnar0kk, on 09/28/2009, -6/+86hands down the best hardware site on the internet for people who build their own PCs. I have been using them for 10+ years and think they can easily crush competition from garbage retailers like Best Buy and Circuit City.
- davdev, on 09/28/2009, -0/+75It absolutely will. Once a company goes public, it's obligation comes to the shareholders and not the customers
- ancalagon73, on 09/28/2009, -0/+69Of course. That's how good New Egg is.
- fury420, on 09/28/2009, -2/+70ever consider that he might be purchasing for more than his own personal use?
businesses need computers too you know.... - phobozad, on 09/28/2009, -0/+61You don't seem to understand how credit works...
- lolwatermelon, on 09/28/2009, -2/+62I've never had to pay a restocking fee, and I've returned 5-10 things.
I've used NewEgg since I built my first computer, and I'll use it until my last. Or until they turn into TigerDirect, whichever comes first. - BossKey, on 09/28/2009, -0/+53This goes a long way toward explaining the American debt crisis...
- DrCyclops, on 09/28/2009, -1/+51Someone got caught projecting!
- strictnein, on 09/28/2009, -2/+46Am I the only one who didn't realize CircuitCity.com was still up and running?
- Cam_86, on 09/28/2009, -2/+45They might be good in america. In Canada though, they are a ***** joke.
HD280 headphones in america - $100
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 ...
HD280 headphones in Canada - $250
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82 ...
I thought the whole point of them opening up to canadians was to give canadians the great value they get by making massive orders to stock their warehouses. Clearly thats *****, since me being 30km north of the 5555 postal code entitles them to bump the price that 1 item up for 150%. - schizogony, on 09/28/2009, -1/+42Or Best Buy.
- skcolb, on 09/28/2009, -1/+38Newegg is the best! I buy parts from them and I'll buy stock in them too.
- thephosphorbox, on 09/28/2009, -5/+42All of my PC part ordering is through TigerDirect or NewEgg. Both have been great for me :)
- geoboy, on 09/29/2009, -0/+33You should try buying apples from Apple. Or a cannon from Canon. Or a mud house from Adobe.
- RudeTurnip, on 09/28/2009, -0/+33They're trying to raise $175 million; that's not to say that's what the company is worth. Instead of borrowing $175MM from a bank, they want to sell a piece of the company itself and raise that amount. On one hand, they won't have to pay interest expense. On the other hand, the current stock ownership will be diluted, but they hope to make up for it by growing out the business (and hopefully the stock price as a result).
- vtnerd, on 09/28/2009, -1/+33I don't really know how these things work, but I would imagine that Newegg is trying to maintain at least a majority share of ownership and possibly even the vast majority of shares.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that they're probably not selling shares for the entire worth of the company. Does this sound correct or am I an idiot? Stock market stuff is not my forte. - candafilm, on 09/28/2009, -0/+30I thought their return policy was damn good. My brother purchased a DVD drive for his new computer but ordered the wrong kind. Newegg just told him to keep it and they'd send him the correct one no extra charge.
- gaqua, on 09/28/2009, -0/+27This is more the case when a company that is not profitable goes public.
I was with a few dot-coms, and when we were living on Venture Capital, everyone had $700 Herman Miller Aeron Chairs, state-of-the-art IBM Thinkpads or Powerbooks, free bagels and donuts every day, free sodas and juices and coffees. We had monthly BBQs in the parking lots.
Then we went public and all that ***** went away because we were hemorrhaging cash. New employees got hand-me-down laptops or cheapo Dells and Toshibas, crappy generic office chairs, the free food and drinks disappeared, and the parking lots were full of cars and cars alone.
When you are with a private company that has been profitable for 8 years (as newegg has been) then you have a bit more muscle. Also, newegg doesn't really have too many great perks. They operate very lean. I know a few people who work there, and it's not like they're all living fat on the hog. - jonlucc, on 09/28/2009, -0/+27You are being kind to suggest that what Circuit City and Best Buy provide(d) is/was competition to NewEgg.
- cheddaro, on 09/28/2009, -0/+27I guess that's the downside of living on an island in the middle of the ***** ocean, huh?
That, and Dog the Bounty Hunter. - suavivity, on 09/28/2009, -0/+27I'm not sure why you say Newegg has a bad return policy.
I've never had a problem with them, and they'll take broken stuff back no questions asked. - lilricky, on 09/28/2009, -0/+26My thoughts exactly phobozad, Chineze, they didnt just give you $6,000, they extended a line of credit for $6,000. You're going to have to pay that back, with interest....
- dustinbolton, on 09/28/2009, -1/+26Ouch! Big increase.
Maybe it's a tax since you might use the headphones to listen to pirated music!
/s - grzelakc, on 09/28/2009, -3/+27I'm surprised its valuation is so low. 175M for a business that must have revenues an order of magnitude bigger should be able to pull in more than that, I would think.
- DirtyDiggberal, on 09/28/2009, -0/+24The general public also thinks paying $19.99 for a 3' CAT5 cable is a bargain.
- cawpin, on 09/28/2009, -0/+23"shipping is not always quite so competitive. "
What? They ALWAYS have a cheap option and it has ALWAYS been delivered to me at least a day early. - tgc1, on 09/28/2009, -0/+23It is inevitable in the Corporate world that every little company that eeks its way out of the woodwork inevitably finds its fate sealed at the hands of greedy bastards in suits on Wall St.
- joshhan, on 09/28/2009, -4/+26Barnes & Hobo?
- greentable, on 09/28/2009, -1/+23ChinezePanda, let me refer you to your last post:
"I literally have 6 grand to spend at NewEgg." - Vonzell, on 09/28/2009, -0/+21Stay Private or the shareholders will turn it into BestBuy!!!!!!
- ragnar0kk, on 09/28/2009, -3/+23HAHA yes i guess they haven't been around quite 10 years yet but i have been using them for as long as i can remember (probably closer to 8 years)
