- clevershark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3>Statistically, we're likely talking about a 24-year-old woman in Shanghai.<
Does she have a webcam? - egbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The second line of the article is "Because we have no central register of Internet users, we don't know who that user was, or when he or she first logged on."
If that is the case how do we know we have past 1 billion users? I have at least 10 separate identities on the internet from old jobs and such. I also have about 60 identities for purchasing. I set up a different email address for each site I purchase from. I also have around 100 users on my domain at my current job. According to my spam firewall in the past 3 days mail has been sent to over 4000 unique user names within my domain. So 3900 of those emails are to fictitious users. - neverender, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2""It took 36 years for the Internet to get its first billion users. The second billion will probably be added by 2015""
double the noobs in half the time. great. - NidStyles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I wonder how many of those Asian users are spam bots.
- amitrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1uh PORN+EBAY=INTERNET FLOODING!
- MonkeyFit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hmmmmm. Americans will be less than 15% of its users but will account for more than 30% of its value. interesting.
- amitrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ok how about we keep adding to the equation:
Porn + Ebay + Torrents = increased users!! - crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fact: porn is the root of internet.
- thescraps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Although this is a usability column, the article is pretty broad and fascinating. I thought the part about, "By 2015, Americans will be less than 15% of Internet users and will likely account for about one-third its value (Americans typically spend more than other users)," was pretty intersting.
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice Avenue Q ref, cerilia.
Unless it was just a coincidence, cause, well, the internet really is for port. - kevin2735, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I remeber when McDonalds reached the Billion burger sold mark... ahhhh how time flies when your having fun.
- EdCAsh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Interesting to note.
Only 40% of the US uses the net, or has access.
But, 1 billion, is still only about 1/7 of the world population. - clevershark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1>And half of them are AOL users.<

/no, not really - southpaw3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Porn + Online Poker / Members of the Church of Arthur Fonzarelli squared = More users!
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 Of the over six billion people on Earth only 1/6 (16.6%) use the Internet and like the comments above not all are actual people with a PC sitting in a house.
A lot of people in the World still don't have a telephone or may not have even seen one!
http://digg.com/links/What_percentage_of_the_World_uses_the_Internet_ - Shots, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11) I know a few cute 24 yr old Shanghainese girls. (I'm in HK, and had to fly up to Shanghai every now and then). Yes, they usually do have webcams.
2) They are wiring up Paris for blanket wifi over the city. Who's gonna be the first to hack that city?
3) China doesn't have that many people online, only in the coastal cities, or casual users in netbars/netcafes somewhere. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11 Billion served and more comming.

- crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What matters the most is that we still have internet porn, and more of it.

- SatansMagicHat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"someone explain usenet for all of us"
It lets you get more porn. - kance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hard to believe that is all when there's supposedly over 99 billion McDonald's? Is that right? Or does that mean McDonald's has served over 99 billion burgers? Wow, that's a lot of burgers! Why's the sky blue?
