- DJCult, on 09/11/2008, -0/+65Good post, bad signature. We can see what your name is. It's right there. Don't be like EatingPie. Don't be that person.
- Goose31, on 09/10/2008, -24/+69Poor saps. Good thing BBB from What isn't one of them. He has 9,000 uploads there!
People probably ended up buying more albums because of the top uploaders. I know that I either download: FLACs of CDs I have owned/own, similar bands as a sample, or just the random torrent to help out the newbie who got into ratio trouble. Have bought CDs because of new music I find.
Sue me over that, RIAA and related associates.
- TheGoose31 - Zippo, on 09/11/2008, -9/+49Obligatory ***** THE RIAA
- sk11, on 09/11/2008, -5/+44Copyright infringement, that's it? From the massive police attention in this case, you'd think they'd caught a gang of major international terrorists.
- coheedcollapse, on 09/11/2008, -5/+34I can honestly say that being a member of OiNK exposed me to much more music than I ever would have been exposed to if I hadn't been on it. I went from purchasing maybe an album or two a year to 10 or more and attending an unsaid amount of concerts.
These organizations should be working WITH the filesharers - asking them what they'd like to see in the music industry and not persecuting them for loving music.
They're literally suing the most adamant music lovers. - JMilton, on 09/10/2008, -10/+38I admit I was an uploader at OiNK. Over 200 albums of classical, industrial, but mostly metal music. Now, I could use some of RIAA's oral attention. Come RIAA, bring IFPI and BPI and we'll throw a party for old time's sake. I'll bring lubricants and gags, and all you have to do is relax. It won't hurt a bit. I promise.
- benologist, on 09/11/2008, -3/+20Judges have never shared digg users' opinion on copyright infringement before. They don't reward you for your valient struggle to fill increasingly large hard drives without spending a dime, they just fine and occasionally even imprison you for it.
So pack extra lube. - Dangered, on 09/11/2008, -4/+21what is a file sharing
- JMilton, on 09/11/2008, -5/+19I'll digg you up, brother of the filesharing.
- moraldebate, on 09/11/2008, -4/+16Not that I want them to do this, but you would think the more efficient manner of stamping out music piracy these days would be to take down Rapidshare and Megaupload. Uploaders are just trying to share music with other people, Rapidshare and co. actually make money off of the rampant piracy that goes on there.
- Jhiaxuz, on 09/11/2008, -0/+8You're not ***** until it comes to music. Just upload porn.
- shredswithpiks, on 09/11/2008, -1/+9stop signing your posts I can see your name slightly to the left
- dalittle, on 09/11/2008, -0/+7Really if you want to stop the RIAA you need to start posting negative hate on the companies that support it. Once you start to hurt their brands and people stop buying their products because of the negative press, and the RIAA will cease to exist. Everyone hates the RIAA, but no one hates those who fund it yet. So hate on these companies
SONY
WARNER
EMI
UNIVERSAL ... - ClarenceDarrow, on 09/11/2008, -6/+12The RIAA is pure evil. They have destroyed the lives of thousands of kids who were just fooling around. A good private investigator should take a hard look at the personal lives of the people at the top of the RIAA and post lots and lots of information on them personally. I think if they had a soft policy on kids they wold not be such total dirt bags. They should go after the real thieves like foreign pirates with gusto but since they target American children to hurt them, they should be investigated and exposed.
- kevthecatslayer, on 09/11/2008, -3/+9More than 99,999 and less than 1,000,000
- boneit, on 09/11/2008, -1/+7So what was the CD? Maybe they're getting slapped about because it was Timberlake, Britney or one of those bloody awful charity offerings?
- Goose31, on 09/10/2008, -19/+25I love how I'm getting dugg down for saying what most of the users on these sites do. Word.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -6/+12I dugg you down because I think it's ***** and even if it's true for you, everyone needs to just accept that sites like that exist for people who want to get things that cost money for free. F*ck the RIAA still stands, but stop trying to justify your massive music collection with a few CDs you bought.
- BillyK, on 09/11/2008, -1/+6You hush. Don't give them any ideas.
- CrazedLeper, on 09/11/2008, -2/+7Yeah, and "conspiracy to defraud"?! *Everybody knows* only nuts believe in conspiracies!
- WNW3, on 09/11/2008, -0/+4***** SONY and WARNER and EMI and UNIVERSAL ...better?
- sonicularulus, on 09/11/2008, -1/+5i got banned for not uploading.
- PoopOnPaul, on 09/11/2008, -2/+5I also buy a lot more cds from being able to pirate it first, and kind of "try it before I buy it". Most of the cds I've purchased (which is a good number) have been a result of piracy. And I know there are a lot of people that are the same way.
But let's be realistic. The majority of people pirating music don't intend to buy it eventually. Most of them figure, "Why buy it when I can get it for free?" It's not ridiculous for them to want to stop piracy.
What I think should be done more is bands allowing the free trading of live music on sites like archive.org, but not condoning piracy. If you want to hear a band or share their music, you could share live bootlegs, and then if you liked them enough for an album, you'd buy it. And of course, live albums would be professionally produced and all so they'd likely have better quality than bootlegs. - leerayIG88, on 09/11/2008, -2/+5I heard the Death Star destroyed many lives on the planet Alderaan.
- BillyK, on 09/11/2008, -2/+5GB/2/4chan
- atgmac, on 09/11/2008, -1/+4You can't buy CDs in prison.
- ortucis, on 09/11/2008, -0/+3"i got banned for not uploading"
You think that's bad? My account got deleted cause I only logged in to see what's new @ Oink every few years during full moon. Bastards. - inactive, on 09/11/2008, -1/+4WHAT DOES THAT MEAN TO PLAY US OUT?
- starf, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2It's annoying that they make a big deal about it only being for one cd, but fail to mention what that cd was.
- oedipuswrexxx, on 09/11/2008, -3/+5I was in my marketing class the other day and even my 50 year old professor stated how the recording industry needs to come to a realization that times have changed.
- Tom10803, on 09/11/2008, -4/+6Way to go! Punishing hard core criminals who instead of using guns and knives just use the click of a mouse.
/sarcasm. - OfNumbers, on 09/11/2008, -2/+4For every pirate there is an equal or greater number of lawyers prepared to make a career out of suing them.
- surf314, on 09/11/2008, -3/+5OK call me an idiot but isn't there a bit of a weird legal issue with the use of torrents? I mean it requires many people to complete one file so any one of them isn't really giving someone anything useful. Could it be compared to someone distributing a random 5% of the words from a book being charged with copyright infringement? I'm not trying to be obtuse I was just wondering if this is why they only seem to be targeting certain people. Because they don't want to lose to an argument like this and set some sort of precedent.
I mean murderers have gotten off on less right? - jsdratm, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2It was this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Joey-Lawrence/dp/B000002OLT/ ... - coheedcollapse, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2Yeah that's what I was thinking. I have a feeling that it wasn't "Yanni's Super Hits" or something like that. Maybe they were prerelease albums.
That, or they're just trying to scare the ***** out of "casual downloaders" by targeting them instead of the big guys. - Matt2k, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2Yeah, it's called Rhapsody or Napster
But otherwise GREAT IDEA - badenglishihave, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2I feel a great disturbance in the Force... as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
- aggiewes, on 09/11/2008, -1/+3they don't care if you go to concerts, the artists make most of their money off of concerts, whereas the record companies make money off of album sales.
so the whole "downloading music made me go to more concerts" isn't going to hold any weight. - OfNumbers, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2Admittedly, I buried your first comment - But it was for the signature, not the point you made.
- teh_spazz, on 09/11/2008, -1/+3Hundreds OF thousands.
Damn digg, you're all tarded. - Valujet, on 09/11/2008, -3/+5Why do you hate Sara Palin?
- Andrwmorph, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1This is a pretty messed up world.
- blup3ace, on 09/13/2008, -0/+1VIVA LA PIG!
- ExSlashdotter, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1Thats kind of the point. The punishment isnt fitting the crime here, and "justice" != "make an extreme example out of random person X"
- inactive, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1what.cd was it?
- haydesigner, on 09/11/2008, -1/+2And ***** the REPLY link.
- Genthree, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1This wasn't RIAA, it was BPI and IFPI. England, remember?
- DigitalBrian, on 09/11/2008, -1/+2The RIAA is just doing what they were hired to do by the Record Industry, and the fact they are so hated tell me that they are doing a damn good job too *lol*
***** RIAA - inactive, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1Exactly - it seems that many people seem to think they can pick and choose what they pay for these days.
- KlogereEndGrim, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1A file sharing is a good file.
