- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+53That looks surprisingly attractive.
- somewhatchewy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+30It's not pink... it's light red.
- Beaver6813, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26/sarcasm
- adriankeith, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26Do any of you actually own a Zune? Or you just bash it because its a Microsoft product and you are all iPod lovers? The Zune plays music, the iPod plays music. I own a Zune and the screen size was the major selling point for me between the two players. Yes, I watch videos on the go. So, yes, the screen size matters to me.
The pink Zune doesn't look bad.. It actually looks pretty good. I may pick one up for the gf. - Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22actually, pink and black go quite well together.
- olddirtycr, on 10/12/2007, -10/+28Just because it isn't pearl white doesn't mean it's ugly.
- zixxer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13ill start off by saying I'm a mac user, and i have had about every ipod...and i am actually considering getting a zune. why? the subscription plan. now before you guys cry "DRM DRM, MSFT, LOLGAY!!!" that doesn't matter to me very much because i don't burn alot of Cd's and i currently am using a Sirius s50 in my car and i save the music off of there onto the unit. i mostly just listen in my car and i would like to watch some TV shows, so its either ipod or zune. but for 15.00 a month i can dl as much music from the zune store as i want, and they have ALOT of stuff..i just installed the zune software and searched the store for some stuff and everything i looked for was there, where itunes didn't have about 1/3 of it. am i off base for considering this? btw, i was one of those people who used to knock the zune until i looked at the store this week and saw how much they had, and for 15.00 and all u can eat...it seems like a good option..what do u guys think? don't dig me down too far :-D p.s. im not considering the pink one
- coloneltcb, on 10/12/2007, -16/+26Now if they can only sell 100,000 of these things...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+20I think they are planing on selling them.. you know, people paying for them.
- Mootabolife, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14The first word that popped into my mind was "cute". Now I'm questioning my sexuality.
- 35263526, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I'd hit it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Actually it was only 250, and it is still 250.
- BlinderBomber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Clearly Microsoft is going to release another version of the Zune, but selling this version of the Zune in another color (which, might I remind you costs NO money for R&D and no money to change production methods) will help the Zune now. A new version, with better features, etc is the long-term solution, but your comments are rather idiotic considering Apple continually releases the "same thing in a new color" - so why shouldn't Microsoft?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13And a good idea too, now more girls will buy them. A few of my friends were thinking about getting Zunes but they thought all the colors, aside from white, weren't girly enough. So now girls have something girly to buy, other than an iPod nano.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14"Do people really think offering a flop in a new color is a solid strategy? "
We will explore that question when they start offering the AppleTV in a 2nd color. - digitalarcanum, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12as though apple has never flopped anything. ever. Get off your high horse iZealot.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I think the Zune is probably a fine player but I use OSX and Microsoft doesn't support OSX so it's not a viable option for me.
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If it's got all the songs that you're looking for and iTunes doesn't, then it seems like that might work out for you. I personally still like to buy CD's...but whatever floats your boat. $15/month isn't too bad for all the music you can eat so long as you eat a lot.
- nevenmrgan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Clearly this is a victory for Good.
- garryw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm holding out for the Watermelon Zune
http://www.zunescene.com/watermelon-red-zune/ - superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Actually Pink is a very good color choice (popular) but I personally think 100k might be kind of an ambitious run, at least at the rate they are currently selling.
What it also says to me is that no major Zune changes are in the works for six months or so, basically how long the pink Zune supply should hold out (or longer even). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Cool. This is exactly what the Zune was missing, a color choice. I think that's why Zune sales have been so slow, but now I expect the Zune to take off and surpass iPod sales in the next 12 months.
- Ashkc88, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10I own a Zune, and I do think it's better than my iPod. All of my friends who have used it think the same. The screen is definitely better, the interface is neat and colorful, and it has some great features my iPod doesn't have. Sure, I can't use it as a massive storage device, but why would I want to carry gigabytes of stuff other than music, movies, and pictures?
Why is everyone giving Microsoft a hard time for introducing a new color? - omarciddo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@G0Ducks
You make some good points, and some very true statements....
....and then you killed it all by putting a link to your blog. - abxy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I take it back, the new pink does look nice. Ironically, it just doesn't look good in the official pictures.
Check out how it looks in some unofficial photos and the video: http://www.zune-online.com/news/zune/some-baby-pink-and-red-zune-photos.html
Looks pretty cool. - 8-bit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'll take a pink and brown one.
- chingy1788, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Microsoft came by Uni the other day...
They said they were in the MP3 market primarily not to make a buck
but to keep a hold on the market, and not let Apple win - zeppo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4cant even use it as a generic usb mass storage device. I'll never understand why they locked out that ability.
- abxy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This shade of pink doesn't look so hot; the 100 run hot-pink looked a lot better to me:
http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2006/11/pink_zune.jpg
When I read the story title I was hoping that decided to do another run of that particular shade. Oh well. - PureGamer, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7I'd buy a Zune if I didn't already own an iPod. They do all the same thing and the screen size is superior.
I love my iPod though. - robshoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Because brown simply wasn't enough.
- tektalk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The Pink Zune looks great. I don't know why you guys are dissing it, but it doesn't look that horrible.
- aserer511, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great business move if it can be well exposed. Why?
Lure in some the female market. And then when girls see their friends have pink zunes, and see it's cool (provided they don't have iPods), they'll run out and get them, pink or regular. - lopla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've seen a Toshiba MP3 player that looks just like that. What gives?
:P - d3dm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know about the rest of you, but if I was going to "squirt" at something, I'd rather it be pink than brown.
- digga, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4@chingy
They said "and not let Apple win"?
Ummm, haven't they already won? - 35263526, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I don't understand why people say the Zune is an iPod ripoff. It's got _more_ features. Quite a lot more, in fact. If it wasn't for the incompatability with OS X and *NIX, I'd buy one when my current Nano dies. You might as well call mp3 players in general iPod ripoffs...
- jdan57, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Zune sales HAVE been slow. And pink is supposed to correct that? I guess we'll see.
Currently on Amazon the black Zune is ranked 55th in sales, well below a variety of iPods and a couple of Sandisks.
The brown Zune is ranked 321st and the white is at 414th. The pink is $40 bucks more and, well... pink with a big black circle at the bottom.

http://www.jangle.net/0/All/Most-Popular/Page-1/Zune=Search/Save.aspx - HairyPoter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2let me think a little bit about it...
Zune crap brown is #550 on amazon's best seller list
Zune white is #250 on amazon's best seller list
ZUne black is #100 on amazon's best seller list...
pink, pink, pink....I estimate pink will sell more than crap brown, so, it will be probably #400 or something...
ah, iPod fills all 20 first positions on the same list for the last 3 years. - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1While I could care less about the Zune, I'm all for Microsoft improving the Zune. Having the Zune and other players on the market means Apple can't stop and relax... they have to keep innovating and improving in order to survive... and this means good things for the consumer.
Competition is a good thing. - lopla, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Asked my 15yr old daughter what she thought. Her words: "Lame Dad. Why would I buy an iPod ripoff?"
MSFT fails again by not understanding "brand" and the marketplace. People want the real thing, not cheap imitations. - nipterink, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1also, that's not magenta...
- tynen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0sexy
- WiseWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6She'll say: "What, you didn't care enough to buy me an iPod? Get out of my life!"
- RedX28, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Only Microsoft could make pink ugly.
- colincornaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I think they're hoping that the color will blind consumer's eyes, so they don't realize they're not buying an iPod.
- dtfinch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3That's like a sort of vomit pink.
A brighter, almost neon pink would sell much better. - iwantamonkey, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6that's a HORRIBLE shade of pink, says this girl
- Bilbobaggins, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Zune is a great device, its a shame people rag on it so much just because it's Microsoft.
- jeffgtr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yeah it reminds me of the pepto bismal, real attractive
