- Jonny5alive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2274% of people are tired of that joke.
- wonderboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Only 10%?
- jackhole, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19This is to be expected, as 10% of the people on the internet are adults.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I was wondering too. Last I checked, the internet was for porn.
- RamanujanRedux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12This is crap. The site doesn't even give us links to any of these THOUSAND adult-oriented sites for Diggers to investigate thoroughly.
- borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+119 out of 10 guys, according to a study done by myself in my highs school, watch porn on a nightly basis. *Only student's 18+ participated in this study ; ).
What did you expect? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11There are three types of lies: Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics.
-Mark Twain - venom8599, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"You're the Internet's #1 non-porno site. Which makes you ten-trillionth overall."
- w0rd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Alexa is inherently skewed due to the fact that it uses a program installed on your computer. Not everyone has it. Therefore it may not display accurate stats. In some cases they can be completely off base.
I know at one point some digg users were encouraging others to install it to boost digg's rank in their system. - calorifer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8alexa only counts internet explorer users, everybody knows people browse porn with opera
- ujangdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6any example of that 10% ?
- AmishRefugee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Does anyone know how in specific Alexa is skewed? I've heard that thrown around and it seems possible but i'm not sure to what area it is skewed towards if at all
and about the story, but I thought the internet was for porn? Apparently it's only somewhat for porn. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+510% were adult related. The other 90% were webmaster sites.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Alexa is skewed as it only tracks people who use their toolbar which isn't a very large number
- shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7OK, that joke is getting pretty old
- Hemingrubbish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the guardian claims 1.1%
http://technology.guardian.co.uk/weekly/story/0,,1954148,00.html - dyvbond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3what? there are non-porn sites? oh...
- appidydafoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Uh, doesn't this just prove that people who use Alexa visit porn sites more than anything? Helloooo... it's obvious they have perverted minds just by the fact that they have that queer toolbar installed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3that's because with alexa they're only counting domains - alexa only tracks tld domains.
So with alexa http://somesite.someurl.com is counted the same as http://www.someurl.com. So sites that are hosted on the top 1000 sites are counted as just 1 site. So a site like geocities could host millions of websites, but they all only count as 1 - and since it appears as geocities (even though the traffic is divided amongst the sites) - it would appear that this site is non-adult (even though the majority of sites hosted on it could be adult oriented).
That's just an example, but Alexa is very skewed - and you should NEVER make any real judgment of traffic or success based on Alexa (toolbar) stats. - dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's also skewed since "adult oriented" sites are generally the sort to (forcefully) install crap such as the Alexa Toolbar. And since the people with their newly installed Alexa Toolbars are already on said porn sites, it's going to give higher numbers on those sites..
Oh thing I'm not sure on : Does Alexa work *soley* on data from their toolbar?
- Ben - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3wow..I'll be right next to the Nabisco Cookie web site!
- ptrcd003, on 10/12/2007, -0/+245 Seconds..? Speak for yourself
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pictures or no digg!
- macinnesm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+110% of sites use an RSS feed??? Really???
- nahsrocketeer75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Another study says that only 1% of 'Net pages are porn. This one was done for the Department of Justice recently and there was great debate at the time as to whether 1% was a lot or not. http://www.networkworld.com/community/?q=node/9224
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+110% for porn? I think the dude forgot to multiply it with 100 after division
- ymschaap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The source of these statistics can be found here:
http://www.yvoschaap.com/webanalyse/ - Stopher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is news?
- jj555298, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Grab your dick and double click, the internet is for porn!
- Lizlovesadam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Honestly. I have no problem with porn, but come on.. 10%. That's just pathetic.
- joemacd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+01) That number seems low.
2) Probably because it comes from Alexa data, which is completely useless. If you want to know what types of sites are popular with Americans who are prone to downloading toolbars and also probably run their own websites, then Alexa is your demographic. Otherwise, use Hitwise. - chris4404, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's to bad they can't find a way to have it integrated into IE and Firefox by default. If they could make it totally unanimous so only the stats were sent it'd be nice to see the trends of the worlds surfing.
- p51d007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DUH...........if it wasn't for the porn sites profitability, "free" websites wouldn't exist.
Heck, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the porn industry helps drive the technological
inovations of the net.
- Zaetha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"10% for porn? I think the dude forgot to multiply it with 100 after division"
I think 10% is correct. You'll try to find a good free porn site for days, weeks, even months. But once you find one, you all will be using it for just 45 seconds a day, you know it. - bobbygeorgina, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"alexa only counts internet explorer users, everybody knows people browse porn with opera"
Really?!?! - That's horrible. - Zaetha, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Bury me!
- Zaetha, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Problems, ptrcd003?
Go here:
http://www.viagra.com - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5Buried. They're using Alexa as a source, and they even admit it's skewed. Good job.
- nmaster64, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Funny, that's the only thing I use IE for...
- GrantTheGr8, on 10/12/2007, -7/+263% of statistics are made up on the spot.
- xixor, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4People can come up with statistics to prove anything, 14% of people know that.

What is Digg?
