There is little Google doesn't know. - rickyisawesome, on 01/22/2009, -6/+319"It is kind of like going from an Xbox to an Atari," Obama spokesman Bill Burton said of his new diggs.
anyone have Bill's gamertag? - Harboggles, on 01/22/2009, -10/+258I wonder who files Obamas' TPS reports?
- DrSnugglebunny, on 01/22/2009, -36/+276"The team members, accustomed to working on Macintoshes, found computers outfitted with six-year-old versions of Microsoft software."
Oh boo ***** hoo, it's not like XP is that ancient. Learn PC and Mac, team members. Bipartisan! - blackCascade, on 01/22/2009, -5/+189In Google We Trust.
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -2/+166to an Atari.
- Jareth86, on 01/22/2009, -2/+153So Barak sat down at his desk, only to find the computer there installed with IE6 and word 2000...
- hokie47, on 01/22/2009, -10/+151I am sure they will get everything fixed, but you are not running for office now, you are running it. Security is now very important, and people doing their "own thing" is almost always a recipe for disaster.
- DirtyBinLV, on 01/22/2009, -17/+147Palin used that Yahoo account so that her emails wouldn't be recorded as official business. Her attorneys told her it was against the rules and she continued to use it. It's a trick she learned from Karl Rove, who sent 100% of his emails from an RNC account.
- Bridea, on 01/22/2009, -19/+140Ironic that Obama, who proposes open government and transparency, is likened to the iPhone - a product of a company whose core principal is closed-system design.
- jdpwnsyou, on 01/22/2009, -7/+120Goddamn people are stupid, what kind of tech team worth its salt doesn't know how to work both systems??
- ifruit, on 01/22/2009, -0/+109Netscape Navigator.
- temsi, on 01/22/2009, -9/+105Yeah, who needs a telephone anyway? We got horses, don't we?
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -0/+90Pong was cool.
Its like going from porn to your grandmother. - inactive, on 01/22/2009, -24/+112How dare you compare a governor using yahoo for email to the almighty Obama's need to access Facebook. But how could you understand, I bet you're still using Myspace.
- jgopp, on 01/22/2009, -0/+86And minesweeper still running from the previous user.
- Salinator, on 01/22/2009, -2/+86Didn't you get the memo?
- wolfing, on 01/22/2009, -7/+91If by '6 year old version of Windows' they are talking about XP... I find nothing wrong with it, that's what I'm running in my computer as a matter of fact. Maybe next year I'll switch to W7
- cygnus2112, on 01/22/2009, -3/+86Oh no! 6 year old Microsoft software. Does that mean they're using Windows XP/2003 and Office 2003 instead of Vista and Office 2007?? My god... they have it made then!
- chrissku, on 01/22/2009, -4/+85I bet they found an Atari in Cheney's old office.
- omjeremy, on 01/22/2009, -0/+76Actually, it was an abacus.
- stewacide, on 01/22/2009, -8/+83You'd think there's be major security concerns with using Gmail (routed through Google's servers) and BlackBerries (routed through RIMs servers)
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -64/+138Remember Palin being scoured for using Yahoo mail? Glad the double standard is working overtime ... still.
I suspect they are using secured computers with specially modified applications. And that stuff doesn't change much because it's so dang hard to get it right. Welcome to the bigs, boyos. - PGPirate, on 01/22/2009, -0/+73Actually it was a dead body
- doshindude, on 01/22/2009, -6/+786 year old version of Microsoft? isn't that XP?
Jeez. I still use XP and think it's just fine. - MacEnvy, on 01/22/2009, -2/+67The BlackBerries are likely on a BES administered in-house, not using the BIS that runs through RIM.
Google has some leeway in how they store/use gMail data for private businesses. When I worked at a university and we explored moving to gMail from Exchange for the whole campus, Google gave us certain privacy options that were available due to concerns about research data. I'm sure they could work something out for the WH. - krellor, on 01/22/2009, -3/+68It is his employees who probably do the updating, etc... I don't see the problem with the Presidents team using new means of rapidly updating information.
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -7/+65You still don't get it. It wasn't having the Yahoo account that was the problem, the problem was that she was using it for official government matters.
- antistupid, on 01/22/2009, -1/+54How secure is wireless internet?
Exactly. - rrife, on 01/22/2009, -0/+52He liked to play Duck Hunt.
- Namco, on 01/22/2009, -4/+55"Yes, exactly. Because you dont need an Xbox or an Atari. It's unbelievable that Obama staff is willing to but national security at risk so they can use the programs they are more comfortable with, facebook and blackberries."
Yeah, because we all know they'll be posting national secrets on each other's Facebook wall. That's a reasonable conclusion you made there.
/SARCASM <--- THIS TAG MEANS THAT I MADE A SARCASTIC STATEMENT ABOVE. (just to be clear :D) - souldawg, on 01/22/2009, -2/+52A lot of government agencies actually use gmail, especially for google docs access. It allows easier editing across multiple agencies who do not have standard software.
- lansuggs, on 01/23/2009, -0/+50And AOL... Bush got the free trial.
- tava0002, on 01/22/2009, -3/+52Those kids and they're darned internet! In my day we used mainframes and stared and green letters all day, they don't need any of those fancy P2 processors!
- neo991lb, on 01/22/2009, -4/+51I was about to post about this. I mean, honestly.. Maybe if it were 10 years old they'd have a point but 6 years puts them on XP and Office 2003.. Cry a ***** river.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 01/22/2009, -0/+47And what's his high score on Pitfall?
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -0/+47He is the only bastard who could actually shoot the dog.
- apackofmonkeys, on 01/22/2009, -1/+47According to the article's estimate of 6 years old, it sounds more like Word 2003, which is exactly what I was given a few months ago for my IT job. It works perfectly fine.
- MacEnvy, on 01/22/2009, -0/+45Actually, it was the Necronomicon.
- divinediva, on 01/22/2009, -28/+72It is kind of like going from an Xbox.
- super_spyder, on 01/22/2009, -1/+42google+roomba=skynet
Keep your vacuums off of the internet. - packerbacker89, on 01/22/2009, -16/+54Well, at least they didn't find it ransacked...
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -5/+43Have you seen my stapler?
- oboshoe, on 01/22/2009, -3/+40A large number of Obama's team are experienced people who have worked in the whitehouse before.
Why are they acting suddenly surprised?
As as for the bristling at security rules. Well. I'm guessing there's a reason to have security rules at the seat of the most powerful nation on Earth.
Only a few miles away, are the embassies of most of our rivals who search long and hard for information leak conduits. Heck even our friends do the same. - longbow486, on 01/22/2009, -1/+37And yes, I won't be leaving a tip, 'cause I could... I could shut this whole resort down. Sir? I'll take my traveler's checks to a competing resort. I could write a letter to your board of tourism and I could have this place condemned. I could put... I could put... strychnine in the guacamole. There was salt on the glass, BIG grains of salt.
- trollick, on 01/22/2009, -25/+60Am I the only one who thinks that the president might have better things to do than updating his status on facebook or twitter?
- stvidguy, on 01/22/2009, -4/+37Everything will get fixed. Just give them a little time. After all, it's only the second full day of the administration.
- skiindude22, on 01/22/2009, -0/+33Obama doesn't like to wear his flair.
- publiclurker, on 01/22/2009, -0/+32There is no minimum number of pieces of flair, but look, Cheney over there has 37 pieces of flair.
- Induane, on 01/22/2009, -0/+32It was also funny that the account got hacked. Whats the password?!
