- Stoyanov, on 01/09/2009, -8/+258In related news, change is delayed.
- awolfe91, on 01/08/2009, -9/+209I see the reasons why and understand it. I just don't want this delayed again!
- PityDaFool, on 01/09/2009, -4/+20210 years warning wasn't enough? $40 once a century is too much to expect out of people? Getting a coupon for a free box is too much of a hassle? TV is a necessity people can't get by without? Seeing 5 commercials every single hour about this coming for the past 6 months didn't get the word out?
- godssonisme, on 01/08/2009, -2/+158I don't think congress is gonna delay it. All that money they spent on f-n commercials to get folks ready, they should've paid attention.
- Samurai77, on 01/09/2009, -3/+151Most people would be better off if their TV went black.
- DiggMasterJ, on 01/08/2009, -16/+144The Broadcasters should gradually lower the power of their antennas so the signal goes away over the course of a month or so.
- Enlightenment, on 01/09/2009, -3/+103
The TV stations and government has been yelling about this change for OVER 1 YEAR.
Only LAZY PEOPLE haven't prepared for the change.
F*ck them...lets keep the February date! - HotDiggityDugs, on 01/08/2009, -15/+108Dugg for "Whar's mah TV? This ain't wawkin'! ah knowed thet guy warn't enny fine! Fry mah hide! Kids, t'th' shelter! Git mah rifle!"
- mattymc, on 01/09/2009, -0/+77Prepare her.
- samard2002, on 01/09/2009, -1/+77Jesus. How much more time and money has to be spent on this? Just pull the trigger and let the retards step up for once. Let's stop spending all our ***** time worrying about the upper 5% and lower 5% of this country.
- lowtolerance, on 01/08/2009, -0/+75I can't get cable, so I've got converter boxes on all my TVs and in my experience they work great. If it's fuzzy, then they aren't watching digital, as digital doesn't have static. It will, however, go blank, show artifacting, or drop audio if the signal is not good. I end up getting way more channels than I ever did through analog, though.
- wildgilbert, on 01/09/2009, -11/+77They've been telling us about this for-*****-ever, inadequate funding my ass. Anyone who can't afford the $49 converter box by now ($9 with coupon) has no business purchasing a television in the first place.
- adambadam, on 01/09/2009, -5/+58I initially thought, "that is the dumbest idea I have heard." Though then I thought about it a little more and I realized its not so bad. It would force the transition to happen slowly and would not jam up phone banks the day the make the switch to digital. Instead it would allow people to slowly learn and not create chaos.
Its not like the digital signal is not already there. - mogebier, on 01/09/2009, -1/+52If you haven't been paying attention to all the FREAKING annoying commercials over the last 2 YEARS about TV going digital then you deserve to be without TV next month.
Only 12-14% of people use an antenna anyway. The rest of us have cable or satellite or the new TV over the phone lines.
My Mom got her boxes a year ago and she hoked them up herself. So geez, just turn it off and let people pull their heads out of their butts and get on with it.
I know the Govt loves to hand hold us all, but enough is enough. - digggggggggg, on 01/09/2009, -1/+51For some people out there, nope, none of those things were enough.
They're the same people who intentionally use 640x480 on a brand new monitor because it looks "bigger". - bchamberlin, on 01/09/2009, -9/+57OH GOD NO What if a few people have problems getting their television? Our empire will come crashing down with no propaganda and mindless entertainment to distract people.
Get a life! - kelly, on 01/09/2009, -18/+66Obama's starting off on a bad foot with this move.
- UnterDenLinden, on 01/09/2009, -4/+50I don't, ten years warning should be good enough....
- InfernoX, on 01/09/2009, -5/+51Yeah but then we'd see something similar to the South Park episode where everyone traveled East to find some internet. There'd be tons of people migrating closer to the antennas. I can see it now.
Dad: IS IT WORKING YET!!!?
Kids: NO THERES NO BUGS BUNNY
Mom: Oh dear, whatever will I do without my cooking channel.
Dad: (Realizing he won't get delicious steak after work without the cooking channel) OKAY THATS IT WE'RE GOING TO VISIT YOUR AUNTIE AND UNCLE IN BEL-AIR. - inactive, on 01/09/2009, -1/+47Is there anything on God's Green Earth that the Government can't ***** up?
- KINGMagazine, on 01/08/2009, -19/+63I bet a lot of people are unprepared for this...like my nana.
- shadeOfGrey, on 01/09/2009, -0/+43"fuzzier than with the antenna"
I hope they realize they still need to plug the antenna into the converter box. - duggtodeath, on 01/08/2009, -13/+56What's a television?
- alais, on 01/09/2009, -2/+44Shes only had what, 8 years?
- Tddupre, on 01/09/2009, -1/+43I prepare her every night
- j0hn, on 01/09/2009, -0/+41If it's digital it shouldn't be fuzzy at all..
- digggggggggg, on 01/09/2009, -0/+39I think that they should broadcast a non-stop informercial about the DTV switch on every analog channel after the switch for at least a week.
That ought to take care of the many people who didn't pay attention. - Observant1, on 01/09/2009, -0/+38my new years resolution is 1024 x 768
- geoboy, on 01/09/2009, -6/+41Don't these elderly people have friends or family that can help them out? Or is TV their only friend?
Seriously. If people aren't ready by now, they'll never be ready. - AndrewMB, on 01/09/2009, -0/+34Worst part is those damn commercials I thought would end on the 17th, now I have to keep watching them!
- jeepnut24, on 01/09/2009, -1/+34I agree, they have been spamming the broadcast and direct channels with this info for more than a year now. It would be hard not to catch it at least a few times. Not to mention plenty of time to get a coupon for a free converter box. Time to change it over.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -19/+52 "Inadequate funding" The Democrats motto for 2009.
- lolwaffle, on 01/09/2009, -0/+32My grandmother thought she needed this because of all the commercials and news segments talking about it. But she has cable. I tried explaining it to her, but she doesn't believe me. I wonder how many converter box coupons are going to people that don't need them.
- ComeOutSwingin, on 01/09/2009, -0/+31I'm sick and tired of radio and tv ads about this. I don't know how anyone can NOT know about this? Maybe I'm privileged, but I can't even name someone off the top of my head who uses an antenna still.
If someone doesn't know about it when they realize their TV doesn't work they'll fix it. - digggggggggg, on 01/09/2009, -0/+30Come February, I would not be surprised at all if there were tens of thousands of people out there who can't figure out why their televisions don't work anymore.
- cptshamrock, on 01/09/2009, -1/+30Just turn it off. Its like ripping off a band-aid just get it over with.
- davidjunit, on 01/09/2009, -1/+30Delaying it is only going to give people reason to further put off transitioning. Stop poking around.
- onlynameicanget, on 01/09/2009, -2/+29Spy's sappin' mah sentry!
- tdogg241, on 01/09/2009, -2/+28You know what they say...once you go black, you never go back.
- Soave, on 01/09/2009, -0/+25Come on, just let it happen already.
- Foenetik, on 01/09/2009, -1/+25http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLW_7wj0iZk
- ronmexico, on 01/09/2009, -0/+23You could make that argument from now to the end of time. At some point you have to pull the umbilical cord.
- nullcodes, on 01/09/2009, -2/+24Uh, NO .. let's not delay this transition any more .. it's been delayed many times and years now .. get it friggin' over with. Buy grandma her freaking converter box.
Free up the frequencies for broadband wireless/cell phone services. - PityDaFool, on 01/09/2009, -2/+24At least one station here is doing that.
- KnightMareInc, on 01/09/2009, -0/+22DTV looks better than cable to me
- k3rfuffl3, on 01/09/2009, -1/+23"I thought about it a little more"
Congratulations... You're on your way to being an intelligent Digger. - Firebird2k6, on 01/09/2009, -6/+28This is retarded.
We as a country have no money anyway and we are funding hundreds of millions of dollars for converters.
We should have switched to digital a LONG time ago and we should not be giving away free converters to anyone who asks - Dalhectar, on 01/08/2009, -1/+22Many stations have asked the FCC to boost digital transmission power after the turnover. If you are getting digital dropouts, etc now with a converter box, after the transition you might not.
Also, from what I've noticed when setting up my grandmother and friend's dad with the box, is that unpowered antennas work better than powered antennas. - opitica, on 01/09/2009, -23/+43I ***** LOVE WEED
- Barackalypse, on 01/09/2009, -2/+22Further proof that nothing the Government ever does costs what they say it will cost or achieves the results they say it will in the time they will. I say, shut it down as scheduled, people will educate themselves about why their tv went out, and they'll do it for free.
