The Scene is an invite-only community of elite pirates dedicated to the rapid release of new content. These arn't your everyday p2p users - these are the people who will make contacts at pressing factories to get prerelease DVDs, or try to bribe someone into lending them a screener. It's composed of a number of release groups, competing for the honor of being the first to release something new. It's ultra-secretive, because the members know they are priority targets for anti-piracy companies, and their work is inherently riskier than just downloading. On the upside, there is actually profit to be made - counterfitting gangs may pay scene groups for early releases, hoping to beat the official DVDs to market.
Ordinary pirates download from trackers. If you are downloading something which has yet to be officially released anywhere, chances are you are downloading something that origionated in the scene.
Those who are actually in the scene don't talk about it, so it's all very mysterious.
Saying aXXo is "some ***** who renames scene rips and uploads them to crappy public trackers" means that his task is to take the rips produced by groups in the scene - rips that arn't usually made public for some time, and so are available only to the scene elite - and releases them into general circulation on p2p and on usenet. - searcade, on 03/31/2009, -1/+30I could think of a post on torrentfreak for April 1 2009: aXXo is Arrested
