- Maizuru, on 06/22/2009, -0/+2From the article Nokia seem to be trying to blame Western governments for the development of this technology, but they didn't have to sell it to Iran. I wonder how they feel now that their product may be directly responsible for the arrest or disappearance of people exercising their freedom of speech? Perhaps making money is more important to Nokia. We don't sell low-tech tools of repression like weapons to regimes like Iran - why do we so willingly sell high-tech tools of repression? I won't be buying any more Nokia products.

Interesting, 150!! other (mostly western democratic countries I guess) are monitoring all phone traffic with that software too. Me thinks it would be useful to see that list of countries that use that software. - muenchk, on 06/22/2009, -0/+1I agree with Maizuru. This is ridiculous. How can Nokia supply Iran with this technology. I think their argument is very weak: western countries use it, why shouldn't despotic murderous regimes? I will no longer purchase Nokia.

Western governments, including the UK, don't allow you to build networks without having this functionality. .. ..to monitor any communications across a network, including voice calls, text messaging, instant messages, and web traffic.
