- sarazen, on 10/10/2007, -6/+76My Dad was a hunter, and up in Alaska many people hunt for survival. But canned hunts, where you basically shot an animal that has been farmed and raised seems about as challenging as hunting a cow. This is just a new variety of canned hunt, and well there is no hunting involved. The only thing that is dumber than this kind of 'hunt' is that it is being banned and no one is even doing it. It's an idiot parade.
- bittermang, on 10/10/2007, -0/+58You've obviously never hunted cow. An elusive creature, indeed.
In reality, it's not the cow which is difficult. It is the land owner and his shotgun you must contend with. - Scheissen, on 10/10/2007, -4/+45LMAO@Congress
Don't we have a war going on? - pdeco, on 10/10/2007, -4/+37Are you saying, if the government doesn't make a law for every possibility in life, then I'd have to make decisions for myself?
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -7/+36You also deserve the right to be a fat ass with heart disease.
The pinnacle of laziness. - Dumbledorito, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24Dunno if "sick and depraved" covers it per se, but I don't think it should be called "hunting" any more than making a touchdown in Madden 2007 counts as "playing football."
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -3/+24Yeah, because we certainly wouldn't want to prevent problems from occurring in the first place, now would we?
- nixonrichard, on 10/10/2007, -5/+26Do you really think hunting is a sick and depraved practice? Does adding "over the internet" make it sick and depraved?
- chase001, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19This reminds me of when lobbyists for physical casinos got online gambling outlawed because it was cutting into their profits. I say outlaw lobbyists.
- EXreaction, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Bam! Got it!
Ok now Mr Robot, go drag that thing over to my new George Foreman Grill. It drains the fat...into this tube...directly into my mouth! - EXreaction, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17And a president to impeach?
- Disodium, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Because a terrorist would surely have this idea then say, gosh darnit! they made that illegal i cant do it now
- keyboardduder, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13The internets is a series of tubes, that you shoot people with.
- Waskonator, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15So, this one isn't from The Onion?
God, somebody jingle some keys in their face. These people have NOTHING better to do. - DougO, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Maybe Congress could redeploy the equipment to locations around Baghdad and we can all do our bit for the war without leaving Mom's basement!
- smackywentz, on 10/10/2007, -9/+20Well it certainly isn't admirable.
By the way, I agree with and am an avid hunter. However, I bow hunt, and those pathetic bastards with semi-autos or huge scopes can suck a big dick. You have to use superior weaponry to hunt animals? I prefer to use my mind/skill to give myself a one-up. - sarazen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11I think your are reading me a little overly technically. Most of the natives I have known depend on what they fish or kill to make it through the winter. Yeah, there is the Doyon group that eats roast beef and Cheetos when their corporation pays out, but not all of the natives have been quite so lucky, and this is not even getting to the whack job back to nature folks who want to challenge themselves. Sure in a pinch all these folks could get public or church aid and we aren't having masses of starving people when the salmon runs have a bad year. There are people though far out in the bush who live a more dicey type of life. Maybe you just knew a different crowd. But at least here in the Interior, sort of in Fairbanks, but more so the bush around Fairbanks, there are people who depend on what they can kill to make it. Split hairs if you want to though.
- reptarbar, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14'One state rep in Delaware asserts that online hunting "would have the potential to make terrorism easier,"'
Wow... Just wow. Anyone remember what happened to the boy who cried wolf? - ruley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10the one on Drugs? or Terror? or Privacy? you need to be more specific.
- antitab, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11BAN OREGON TRAIL!
- kippmbolt, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12As an avid bowhunter I can assure you that no one is more up in arms about online hunting than hunters themselves. There has only been ONE operation that did this that I have ever heard of. It is no longer running that I am aware of. Hunters and outdoorsmen/women have worked for decades to protect both our image and our heritage in regards to ill-concieved ideas such as this.
None the less, Congress needs to work on a lot more important things than issues that are NOT even an issue. As a side note. As a country have we lost so many of our individual liberties as to be OK with Congress outlawing activities that thus far have not affected anyone? Scary. - remccain, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9ignorance of the law isn't an excuse, yet, there are no law classes nor information issued to citizens about which laws they should follow.
- Ibox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Vegetarian (N) - very bad hunter.
- GloomyYardGnome, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8There was a segment on the Daily Show about this a long time ago. It was made all the more hilarious by the fact that they guy who runs the site designed it for blind and mentally disabled children.
- FalseProphecy, on 10/10/2007, -41/+48If you have the ability to kill an animal over the internet, you deserve the right to do so.
- noumuon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9the day you can go out and wrestle me some deer to eat with your bare hands is the day that i'll admit you're right about hunting with guns.
- protogenxl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Can we get these Internet Gun Rigs setup in the House and Senate Chambers?
- Gir53457, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8At 6'3 and a fairly intimidating man, I'll still run like hell from an angry buck.
- Gir53457, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9The ability to use a compound bow, A weapon of little skill. If he wants to go act like a ranger then he should use a re-curve.
I'll stick to my shotgun. - TVarmy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Hunting for food seems to me it should be okay if one is okay with eating meat, unless the animal is endangered or loss of the animal in that area will mess up the ecosystem. Factory farms, where most people get their meat from, have animals lead caged, difficult lives. But wild animals at least have led lives as their instincts intended. A hunter with good aim can humanely kill an animal better than a factory could, and a bad aim would probably not be able to bring home anything. But I feel hunting for sport is just plain wasteful.
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -12/+18Advocates are always trying to push laws for non-problems. See net neutrality.
- keyboardduder, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11Can we point the gun to the people who run the businesses? Ill pay for that!
- footodors, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8That gives me an idea. BB gun + roaches (german roaches;the big ones). Nobody cares about roaches and it would be fun to blast 'em.
- shawnz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6..what did happen with 9/11?
i was pretty sure murder and stealing planes was already illegal. - Jacob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5You are either an idiot or a complete asshat.
- uninvolved, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8I care about monkeys, jaguars, pumas, lions, elephants, etc.
A cow, a deer, a rabbit, a squirrel. I couldn't care less. ***** 'em.
We eat animals. *****' pussies. - agents4, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Only the US Airforce can hunt over the internets!
- kippmbolt, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7As a Ron Paul libertarian as well, YES I DO. This is none of the gov't business.
- DOCKAUF55, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I have the ability to schwap you with my dong via the interweb. Damnit I'm gonna do it.
- TexasScott, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yeah hunting is hunting. I support hunting 100%. But hunting an animal that has been raised with human interaction, for example, a domesticated duck hand fed by humans; really irritates me and I don't consider that hunting. On the other hand, going to a deer lease where deer run free is another story.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6States are banning it cause that state wont get a dime of the profit like hunting fees, tours, and what not
- Jacob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yes I do. Why should the government say what you can and can't do. The animals were raised for this specific purpose in mind. They have better lives than most cattle would.
But I do think it's a stupid idea and something I don't see a point in, but why should the government give a rats ass. - Salgat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'm just concerned with people being cruel or missing with their shot. I can't tell you how bad it is shooting an animal in the jaw or foot. The animal goes into shock and you have to hurry and slit its throat or that animal will awake and be in horrid pain.
- doktorrocket, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5When I order steaks or a turkey online, isn't that exactly what I'm doing? Hell, when I buy one in the store, isn't that the same thing? I don't really understand the philosophical distinction people seem to make between eating meat and hunting, and I don't see the internet as effecting the moral calculus any.
- Qenton, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Well there was a California initiative back a while ago forbidding the sale of California horses for human consumption or something like that. Never had horse meat, probably never will, but boy now that the law is on the books (voted for by the people none the less) I sure get a craving for a horse burger every time I see one of them trot by.
- aadnk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I wouldn't make it illegal - I'd make it possible. Especially if you could harm humans as well. There's so many times I'd just like to punch someone over the Internet.
- vertinox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4"There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. When there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws." -Ayn Rand
- Tiak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Actually, I'd say the "over the internet" bit changes things rather dramatically... In real lie there is skill involved, you are remaining quiet, attracting prey through some means, there is most often motion on your part, and one must actually aim well while shooting, as well as the practical purpose of having meat to take away from it... Over the internet none of these things exist and you're essentially hunting domesticated animals as they come for your food... It'd be like having someone else shoot a dog for you as he eats... Nothing good about it.
- noumuon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3it's already entirely possible to do.
- silentseraph, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3she doesn't "want to give ideas to people"
oh, you mean kinda like teaching sex ed in some kansas public schools
