- ronar, on 12/03/2007, -4/+89That's what I love about Switzerland. When we (the people) don't like a law, we can change it.
- foofightrs777, on 12/03/2007, -2/+80"Digg this and show the content industry they cannot play games with the legislation of a democracy!"
Well, since you're in Switzerland and not the US you guys actually have a shot. - jmpeagle, on 12/03/2007, -9/+53like when you the people didn't allow women to vote at the federal level until 1971.
every democracy in the world has huge huge problems with it....none can trumpet themselves as "for the people" - stanti, on 12/03/2007, -2/+39Mooseontheloose: Sweden and Switzerland are two completely different countries. I have no clue why ignorant people confuse the two.
- Jareth86, on 12/03/2007, -1/+32What a strange concept. Here in America, only corporations are allowed to do that...
- Nick22, on 12/03/2007, -1/+29Its Switzerland dumbass
- 1337Einstein, on 12/03/2007, -1/+26I think you're overestimating the effect digg will have on this legislation. Still, I empathize with your cause, dugg.
- Mononuclear, on 12/03/2007, -1/+22Swiss people of Digg unite!!! all 30 of you!!!
- phoenixp3k, on 12/03/2007, -1/+21Canadians, be aware that similar laws might be proposed in the next few weeks. I show my full support AGAINST the DMCA
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM ... - inactive, on 12/03/2007, -0/+20... because they're ignorant?
- richardiscool, on 12/03/2007, -7/+25Americans are the source of amusement that keeps on giving.
- xwiz, on 12/03/2007, -4/+22Good luck!
- qpn6ph9q, on 12/03/2007, -0/+16Because they have no clue?
- Chaoticfist, on 12/03/2007, -1/+16We need similar help stopping the same type of laws in Canada. I have been trying to rally people through facebook. Sadly most people dnt care about politics. They just dnt care. However they will care when they receive a lawsuit at their door. And by then it will be to late. The media more or less is ignoring the issue. Most people have no clue that the government is very close to passing anti consumer dmca style laws. VERY CLOSE!!! Again like i have said before email the prime minister, the media, your municipal, provincial, federal, representatives.
Even Canadain singers, bands oppose there laws. But even their struggle is not paid any attention in the media. If you know someone in the media email them the issue. EVERYONE everywhere needs to stand together to defeat these laws. Good luck to you guys in Switzerland. I know we are going to need a lot of luck here in Canadas as well. AGAIN there is a facebook group. The Pirate Party of Canada. Join this group. Invite everyone. Start similar groups elsewhere. Talk to your parents. friends, everyone about this!!! - thebellmaster1x, on 12/03/2007, -0/+15At least you don't have to deal with these idiots outside of the Internet like I do.
- vdog, on 12/03/2007, -0/+14Since some people are confused (mainly moose and cowley), Allow me to clarify:
Sweden is the home of The Pirate Bay, as it doesn't have DCMA laws, nor any inclination to do so.
Switzerland does NOT have TPB and is serious about implementing DCMA.
For those of you that don't have maps:
http://www.planhotels.net/hotels/europe/ims/basic/ ...
Sweden is the big country at the top between Norway and Finland, while Switzerland is a tiny little thing surrounded by France, Germany, Austria (not Australia), and Italy. - Swarms, on 12/03/2007, -1/+14...by digging?
- asskey, on 12/03/2007, -1/+14I dugg you up, but keep in mind, we all have to try!
- AssProphet, on 12/03/2007, -1/+14Yeah for rea. Can you picture them in Swiss Congress...
"We've decided not to back the the Swiss DMCA bill anymore"
"Why is that?"
"Well sir, People on digg.com clicked these little thumbs up icons and made a difference" - atarijedi, on 12/03/2007, -2/+13Very true, however, I believe that switzerland is ahead of everyone else, in the ability for citizen called referendums and initiatives, and I think recalls (but maybe i'm wrong about recalls), if recalls were instated everywhere, politicians would think more about what they do before they do it.
- rot13ubercrypto, on 12/03/2007, -0/+11Forwarded this to several Swiss IT privacy & security lists already. Good stuff, don't forget to vote.
- jus1haz2, on 12/03/2007, -0/+10Ya I use to confuse them as well, in the 4th grade. You should also use the reply button :D
- vdog, on 12/03/2007, -1/+11I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uhmmm, some people out there in our nation don’t have maps
- juanita12, on 12/03/2007, -0/+9I don't think you understand. Democracy means you have to do what this guy wants.
- DBNKR, on 12/03/2007, -0/+8If we collect 50.000 signatures, we can demand a public national vote that decides if this law goes into effect.
- rot13ubercrypto, on 12/03/2007, -1/+9Maybe in your country. In my country, you tell people about a law and put up a printable signature form, people fill it in, and you have a vote on it. Works a charm.
- inactive, on 12/03/2007, -1/+9Before you make ignorant blanket statements...might wanna check the parent's home location.
- ErikHK, on 12/03/2007, -0/+8Come on cowley10, don't mix up Sweden and Switzerland.
- Tippis, on 12/03/2007, -0/+7:D Humour.
No. - pyalot, on 12/03/2007, -2/+9Woah, getting some traction here great! :)
Yeah I know that the diggers itself won't make much difference, but publicity will, and this badly needs more publicity then it had.
Love you all, keep digging. - Tenoq, on 12/03/2007, -0/+5You mean there's countries OUTSIDE America?
- comradeTJH, on 12/03/2007, -0/+532 !
- chillfaktor, on 12/03/2007, -0/+5There you go. Digging DOES help, because of the 1% of people that get inspired to take action. Well done.
- qpn6ph9q, on 12/03/2007, -1/+6Every little bit helps spread the word. Good luck to the author. Win the fight for the good guys this time.
- Daniel591992, on 12/03/2007, -4/+9swiss cheese.. duh!
- chillfaktor, on 12/03/2007, -0/+531 ;)
- Cyber_Akuma, on 12/03/2007, -3/+8Democracy is the worst form of government.....
..... except for every other form of government out there... - HerbSolo, on 12/03/2007, -3/+8This might be a stupid question... - but isn't Europe a country? ....
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 12/03/2007, -0/+5In the real world, only a very limited percentage of the population ever experiences "sudden rash changes" in opinion. Even if that 3wasn't the case, how is the government having to bend to the opinion of the people a bad thing? Isn't that the entire point of a democracy.
If you assume that people are too stupid to run their own country, you will end up attracting only stupid people to run it. - lothar250, on 12/03/2007, -0/+4just like they wanted to forbid drinking in public... hope this wont get through either
- puerrom, on 12/03/2007, -1/+5no, only if a position harms our business ;-)
- teamparadox, on 12/03/2007, -2/+6Yea some diggs will show them! Nevermind the fact that the people pushing this threw into law are probably getting paid quite well to do so..but once they see some people dugg this and it links to a website they will just give it up!
Sorry but this is the way things work. - blindhammer, on 12/03/2007, -0/+4DMCA safe-harbor provisions are absolutely critical to free-speech and user-generated content, at least in the United States.
- heystoopid, on 12/03/2007, -1/+4you do know that rapidshare.com has a home in Switzerland don't you !
- shiny100, on 12/03/2007, -1/+4hope my small lil digg helps. Idiotic law...
- HentaiJeff, on 12/03/2007, -0/+331 !
- Spudster, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3We're having the same problem in Canada. Major legislation is rumoured to be appearing within the next couple weeks. Here's a Facebook group dedicated to fighting it in Canada:
http://hs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7768706441 - stevedclarke, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3Don't worry. It seems that you're not alone in making that mistake. ;-p
- comradeTJH, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3never heard about that.
- souljaboytellem, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3"Yeah, and then someone made a funny Chuck Norris joke, so these people must know what they are talking about"
