- drlog, on 10/26/2007, -3/+2Over 350kw.....thats insane (and worth duping :P)
- IceZZ, on 10/26/2007, -2/+0Because the Viper doesn't have that power for similar price? The Z06 Vette? The Porsche C4? etc etc
Nothing to see here folks. Just another me-too at the races.- jambox, on 10/26/2007, -0/+3Stop banging on about the bloody Viper!
It's a basic sports car with a lorry engine, which is neither big nor clever.
Even a TVR would whip a Viper.

- tmbrwolf19, on 10/26/2007, -3/+9Despite the horrible boy-racer image this car now has thanks to those bastards in hollywood... the skylines have always been ***** brilliant cars keeping pace with the best that any other manufacturer has to offer. I only can hope this one lives up that image (and doesn't require me to sell my testicals to own one). : P
- wtfjames, on 10/25/2007, -10/+0umm.. not 473 horsepower. kthxbye. This site gives you all the info straight from Nissan without gay ass Google Adsense
http://press.nissan-global.com/PRESSKIT/NISSANGTR/ ...- djSyndrome, on 10/25/2007, -1/+5Your link shows 480ps, which translates to - wait for it - 473 horsepower!
Here, I'll even link a converter for you, since you're too ***** stupid to figure it out for yourself. Punch in 480ps and see what you get. http://www.locost7.info/converter.php- wtfjames, on 10/31/2007, -0/+0lawl. the car has 550hp at the engine, 480 rwhp. not sure when that became 473? oh yeah.. it didn't.

- makkaveli19, on 10/25/2007, -5/+1Even thought i think it could have been more powerful(480 twin turbo 911 and the new 520+ gt2 from a 3.6 v6 engine) i think the design is spectacular and the hype is ridiculous. love it though!
- MtheoryX, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1The exterior design is very attractive.
However, the interior needs some more work. That center console area looks like unfinished and very unrefined.

- ummmmm, on 10/26/2007, -9/+1It looks like a Chevy Cobalt, Corvette, and Nissan 350Z all put together.
- nosecohn, on 10/25/2007, -9/+3Wow, that car is ugly.
- djSyndrome, on 10/25/2007, -1/+7It could look like a galvanized turd for all I care. This thing will outperform 99 percent of the cars on the road today, and the remaining 1% are several orders of magnitude more expensive. At an estimated $70k, it's the performance bargain of the century.
- Dichotomic, on 10/25/2007, -2/+0now just think about the fact that the previous generation in japan cost about half as much.
- djSyndrome, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1Now just think about the fact that the new generation will be available in most of the world.
- IceZZ, on 10/25/2007, -2/+0First, it is going to be more like $80-90K USD. Second, how do you figure it is going to outperform cheaper cars like the Vette, which has more power, and is probably lighter? I'm a huge GTR fan, but after seeing the final stats, I am very disappointed. And the looks aren't so hot either. What happened to the menacing black scoops below the headlights? The final version looks like a Celica GTS mated with a Subaru.

- LynchBomb, on 10/25/2007, -7/+1It looks like a 2001 Celica had too much saki one night and and went home with an older man named 1999 Mustang.

- MrMongoose, on 10/25/2007, -2/+0I have a feeling that the clutch pedal is going to be gone in 10 to 15 years' time. Computer-controlled transmissions are getting to be better than human-controlled ones in pretty much every aspect (performance, fuel economy, reliability).
- danielwsmithee, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2Probably all true but they will never be as fun to drive.

might be super fun to go fast in, but it's very ugly to drive slow in- Treoinmypocket, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1agreed. the look is nothing if not ordinary and commonplace.
- NeonElixir, on 10/25/2007, -0/+8I'm so in love with this car.
- Rhenthalin, on 10/25/2007, -0/+11Did anyone else get a viseral reaction to the specs?
- ZeRux, on 10/25/2007, -5/+4Who else thinks that digg needs a "cars" section?
- IceZZ, on 10/25/2007, -7/+1Um, only 473 HP? Exactly how is that supposed to beat a 550 HP Z06 Vette around the track, like Nissan claims? That is a huge power difference. The GTR must be super-light or something, or it will never perform the way they are claiming it does.
- Projektorboy, on 10/25/2007, -0/+4HP isn't the be-all-end-all of a car. You have the power of the engine, the gear ratios of the transmission, the power:weight ratio, aerodynamics, suspension tuning, and a whole lot of other factors that will decide how fast a car can really go.
- jambox, on 10/25/2007, -0/+5Ever heard of a torque curve?
Limited slip diff?
Aerodynamic downforce?
All these things are as important as maximum power output, if not more so. The top HP referred to is just the rate of conversion of energy when revving the engine on the redline in top gear, not that you'd ever be able to do that in real life unless you have an airport runway to yourself. - betterth, on 10/25/2007, -0/+6Not to mention, the GT-R is AWD while the Z06 is RWD, which in and of itself is a massive difference. My 230hp AWD Subaru WRX is very close in performance to a 300hp RWD Mustang GT. I mean, I handle better than it, but then again, what the ***** handles worse than a Mustang?
Like they said above, especially when going in speeds in excess of 100-130mph, aerodynamics play a massive role in top speed and handling. Again, the WRX (it's what I know, lol), it's top speed isn't electronically goverened or the top speed the engine could produce, it's drag limited. At a certain speed, the forces of aerodynamics equal the power output of the car and I stop accelerating. I think it's around 140, so that again shows how important things that aren't horsepower are. - shredswithpiks, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1I'm going to agree with iceZZ. The z06 is an incredibly well balanced car. Since it's non-turbo, it has to have a better torque curve than the GT-R. The z06 has limited slip. It also has some amazing aerodynamics. The z06 has proven itself a very incredible-performing track car. There are drivers getting this thing to beat the RAW times of the the Lotus Elise in autoX (generally speaking, the Elise is the easy button of SS and the respective prepared classes).
also, betterth are you at some crazy high altitude? In colorado my WRX can push up to 160 and then it runs out of gear...
anyway, I'll bet some money this car doesn't beat the C6 z06 around tracks...- ev0l, on 10/25/2007, -1/+0no but whats said is it will probably torch it in a 1/4 mile. hows that for role reversal?
- BECoole, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2You don't get 4WD or AWD free. It comes with a significant weight penalty.
- z3021017, on 10/25/2007, -0/+10Watch the GTR's 7:38 Nurburgring run:

Impressive. Most impressive.- IceZZ, on 10/26/2007, -5/+0This porker weighs 3850 lbs! It's heavy as all hell. To recap: Z06 550hp, 3300 lbs. GTR: 473 HP, 3850 lbs.
No contest.- jambox, on 10/26/2007, -1/+7Power/weight ratio is not the only thing that determines how fast a car goes around a track.
Especially since it's a universal truth that ALL American cars have wonky steering and suspension made of pig-iron!- corvairkid, on 10/26/2007, -1/+0Climb out of the 1920's buddy. Even the new GM trucks have aluminum suspension components and rack & pinion steering. (which I should note just became available on ALL models with the GMT-900 platform. My '06 Sierra 2WD has it though.)
I'm with IceZZ. The GT-R is carrying 550 more lbs with 32 less HP to do it. (505 not 550) No contest indeed.

- IceZZ, on 10/26/2007, -5/+0BTW, that video you posted is not the production car, but the prototype. It could easily have more horsepower than the final version. There is no way a measly 473 hp carrying 3850 lbs around the track is going to be as fast as a Koenigsegg CC.
- jambox, on 10/26/2007, -0/+5No and the Typhoon isn't quite as good as a F-22 but since it costs about a third as much then it's still a terrific plane.
Skylines have always been about the way torque is balanced between the wheels, rather than real power.
The Z-tune version of the old GT-R was claimed to be faster than a Ferrari 360 and that had much less power than this.

- AeonTorpor, on 10/25/2007, -1/+1I believe it's actually an R series, VR38VETT.
- PacketScan, on 10/25/2007, -2/+1i'll have to sneak one in.
- boombye, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1The older Skylines didn't have to be snuck in, what makes you think all that's necessary? lol
- manageMyRights, on 10/25/2007, -3/+1Looks like an automatic. Fortunately the 2008 M3 is a real manual transmission.
- shredswithpiks, on 10/25/2007, -0/+3the model in the article pictures is an auto. Doesn't mean all of them will be.
- manageMyRights, on 10/25/2007, -1/+1Fair point, but for a car like that why even show an auto. I do see what looks like paddle shifters on the wheel but I've never driven one I really like. Maybe I haven't driven enough types.
- shredswithpiks, on 10/25/2007, -0/+3the model in the article pictures is an auto. Doesn't mean all of them will be.
- Vertabreaker, on 10/25/2007, -1/+2There's something more to this car then Nissan is telling because it beat porches record on the Nurburgring by :02 seconds which is impressive for having less HP/torque.
I would love to have one of these, but the $69,000 price tag they're talking about is a little much lol. - bitches, on 10/25/2007, -0/+3I still prefer the R34. That one had incredible style and didn't look like the typical sports car.

- 2gooder, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1The car is not an automatic in the traditional sense. It's a dual-clutch manual transmission with a computer controlled clutch. There's no torque converter like there is in an automatic gearbox.
FTA: "Putting the power to the ground is an all-new GR6-type dual clutch transmission, with paddle shifting and a Borg Warner six-plate dual clutch for direct control." - vitaminC21H30O2, on 10/26/2007, -0/+0No thanks, give me a '66/'67 GTO, a '65 Riviera GS or a '66 Fairlane GT/Comet.
