- dbpigeon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just can't wait to play a FPS with the Revolution's controller. Fun controller + great, original games = happiness.
- smithco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Nintendo's always had two things going for them:
1 - They're always for making the best games. Hardware is there to support the games, not the other way around.
2 - Nintendo is extremely profitable. Financially, they're the only company of the big three that holds this position; meanwhile Sony and Microsoft are losing money fighting a attrition-style grab for market share.
So my prediction:
10 years from now, Nintendo is likely to still be around, making reat games. And either Sony or Microsoft (or both) will run out of cash reserves and pull out of the games market. - dinki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Is it just me, or does this guy have no respect for english grammar? Maybe he should leave the gaming alone and concentrate more on his studies.
- admirabumblebee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Gamecube and DS both did(are doing) extremely well. Nintendo is the only gaming company actually making money. Gamecube not selling as much as nintendo expected, but they are making a lot more money off it than sony or MS on their consoles.
We've all been through it before. I love my gamegear, and lynx but the incredibly inferior gameboy won in the end. It lasted longer, had more memorable games, better support and conquered the basic ideas of a handheld. Good battery life, fun quick games and cheap. Something all the others at the time failed... and still are failing at now.
Nintendo has been here around a century and they wont go away that easily. They have more gaming experience as a company than the next 5 companies combined. The most important part being that all that's left in my video game collection that I still enjoy playing are my nintendo games. XBox, psp, ps2, whatever always had cool games but once i was bored they were sold or traded. Nintendo games ... well years later I still have a blast playing smash bros or mario kart 64 or super mario bros or tetris. Xbox game Id love to play again? err.. not even halo. PSP game that I care to play again? Nope... ps2? Nope.... n-gage? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We were out doing some xmas shopping yesterday and stopped at a Best Buy. I was suprised to see the Xbox 360 kiosk basically vacant. And then I saw why. They had call of duty 2 loaded up and on another, some Lara Craft looking game. I was completely unimpressed with both the graphics and the
AI. COD2 looks better on my P4 3.4Ghz laptop. They other game looking like a steaming pile of *****, so it wasn't even worth exploring. There's very little to impress me with the 360. As for the PS3, well, ***** sony. Here's hoping the NR WILL be a revolution. - Trikk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bad spelling and grammar, and more than a little fanboyish. I agree with some of his points, and I like Nintendo, but no digg.
- djmollusk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It brings up a lot of good points. Look at the Nintendo 64 controller. Nintendo brought analog stick back into the standard controller for better control in 3d environments. Then Sony redesigns the PlayStation controller to include analog sticks too. Also, I can remember a time when Nintendo was called the Microsoft of the video game industry. Oh how the times have changed.
- demha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nintendo is the way to go! Revolution is going to be so much better than PS3 or 360! It's not just a processor upgrade. If Sony was smart, they'll delay the release of the PS3 and think of something more innovative to put in their system. I think the PS3 will go the same path the XBox 360 did (with all the problems)
- ((PolyAst)), on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"If you don’t have a DS you can get one for $99 at Target; their honoring the typo."
Typo? I thought that was the new price drop?
their = they're - subscribtion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Finally, I thought I was the only one excited about the Revolution. With all these dimwitted people on the Internet that practically idolize the 360.
- bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nintendo franchises are quite succesful and that have helped them from going belly up, when M$ bought Rare I thought they had a shot to the top but wasn't that way, instead of developing titles like Banjo Kazzoie they came up with grabbed by ghoullies that was good but not WOW!!!.
I have to say that the music for nintendo games is very catchy something I haven't seen at Sony or M$, sure the gameboy had crappy graphics but the tunes were simply great.
Sony have to give a try to things as innovative as Katamari Damacy and only then Nintendo would be out of the picture, really, all Nintendo have done is re release after re release of every franchise they own to stay afloat, it sure works but that is a double edge knife for them. - diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Console gaming is not the future. I think computer gaming is the future. Who agrees?
- Byrns5512, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1gets a digg, but the quote on the linked page is a little out of context (i.e. as far as I am aware, it relates to handhelds only)
I love my DS :-) - Mexrocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Im not a fanboy... i just prefer Nintendo to the other companies... I grew up with Nintendo...
- Dwebtron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1we know nintendo is our future, we dont need a story talking about handhelds to tell us that
- geneticerror, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ mattpist
$3000 for a PC? i would slap you if you were here because if you paid that much for a PC no wonder you like consoles so much.
PCs have always cost a lot of money (and it wont change), and every time a new console comes out everyone says that PC gaming is dead and that everyone will worship the console. It hasn't happened yet.
i believe that if PC does ever die then revolutionary gaming will go with it. a lot of ground breaking games and game genre's have been because Microsoft and Sony cant control the PC market. if either of them becomes the only game system left then gaming is indeed in trouble because revolutionary ideas will be considered too risky to support and therefore gaming will end up being generic first person shooters and sports games. - OneAndOnlySnob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I stopped buying Nintendo when they wouldn't let Midway put blood in Mortal Kombat on the SNES. Screw Nintendo and their puffy cartoon characters with big eyes. Nintendo is cool if you're 7."
Yes, come back when you grow up. Once you get to a certain age, you'll realize that if the games are fun, that's all that ***** matters. - macgabriel87, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2duh. i've always thought they were the future. they ***** innovate, no one else does, no one will EVER. for the next couple years i am only going to here this echo, "nintendo is our savior, we were wrong, they rule"
- cyborgver666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i agree with you gamabunta, and I am a die hard Nintendo fanyboy. Ill still play everything that's out. The Revolution is going to do just that, a revolution in the gaming market. Microsoft's approach is horrible. Sony will live on for long time, simply for just its name, Sony. But Nintendo will always be around.
- hyperpasta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@mattpist
I dugg it not for the article, but for what it represents.
That sounds really stupid. - Borlz89, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2same here
- gh3tto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nintendo finally figured out that Duck Hunt was their best game/controller. Boy am I ready for DuckHunt3000 with that controller. Now develop a Dance Dance Revolution walking pad to simulate walking around in an FPS (We've been thinking of converting our treadmill)
- computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To mattpist: GameCube actually has a pretty fair market share. The DS has sold at least twice as much as the PSP (note: may be higher).
- horatio324, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1no digg personal blog
- techlinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"and another thing, how could this article even be remotely true? the gamecube has done terribly, and so has the ds. this was totally pulled out of someone's butt."
Mattpist. What are you smoking? For every one PSP sold there are 3 DSes sold. THREE. I wouldn't quite call that doing bad. Did you know that in Japan the Gamecube is in second place? It has sold FAR more then the Xbox. That's because Japanese people know what good, fun, not exactly the same as every other FPS games are. I love Halo 2. It's loads of fun online. But I don't need the other 500 same run of the mill FPS there is. The Xbox doesn't really have any good exclusives. Neither does the PS2..aside from Final Fantasy and Katamary Damacy of course.
I absolutely hate Sony. And I vow that I will never buy another product from them. Ever. Sure if I had the money I'd buy an Xbox 360 from Microsoft. But not because it has good games. (Which it doesn't.) But because it is a decent and cheap HTPC.
Your a MS/Sony fan boy, and you are stupid. Please go away. - ReyBrujo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have been expecting the Revolution for some time, and the controller really bought me. But, after reading 1Up article about how would developers use the controller, and their opinion, I am in the "frightened" phase. I hope it works... but I doubt all developers will know how to use the technology.
" all Nintendo have done is re release after re release of every franchise they own to stay afloat, it sure works but that is a double edge knife for them."
Hmm... reminds me of Rockstar... the last three GTA games, Vice, San Andreas and Liberty are just the same... and EA... only that when a new version of any EA game appears, it only improves its graphics, but when Nintendo releases a new Zelda game, you know it will be absolutely better than the previous one.
Sony and Microsoft are for the hardcore. Katamari was just something different that happened because Sony CEO was drunk and forgot to check it, otherwise he would have said "What? No 3D realistic textures? No 120fps? Then trash it!". - EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm still going to buy a revolution. :) They sound great. I'd buy a PSP though for everything else. It is a lot more useful than a simple gaming machine.
-e http://digg.mediahug.com/ - bluefire0728, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's just some random dude with a random thought on his random blog.
Interesting points, but no digg... I'd like it if the post was developed a little more. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1ive been anti nintendo for a while (due to their rediculous level of fanboi-ism and the fact that nintendo just didn't get it for the last 2 generations (N64 especially)) but this time round so far, i'm backing them, i still loath fanboys.....
- hyperpasta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@thenik
yeeah i agre ewith you ont hat one. However, he's right you know. - illu45, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1A link to a blog post about someone ranting about their DS... How'd this get on to frontpage?
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'd Digg this if it weren't for all of the typign erorrs and speeling misteaks.
- horatio324, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0People digging this are just pissed they didn't get a 360. To quote Sarge, "Cry me a river".
- mitchy_g, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I played my friends gamecube the other day for about an hour (resident evil 4) and i have to say that its one of the best console experiences i have ever had. Ive never owned a console, but i have played all, and NOTHING is as exciting to play.
I had always thought Nintendo was a massive underdog, but from what i have been looking into, they are one of the best on the planet. Quality seems to be the top priority, not hype and market driven releases - atf487, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nintendo systems have always had the best games, IMO.
Problem is, their 3rd party support hasn't been all that great since the snes' heyday. - spaceninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Where is the revolution? I had a Gamecube for about a week.... sold it to a friend of mine just to get it out of my home. Sorry, not everyone enjoys another Mario, Metroid, or Zelda game. Those names just don't have the kick they once had. Don't get me wrong, I had some great times with those games back in the SNES days. Guess I have matured as a gamer and I figure if Princess Zelda and Peach want to get captured.... they need to invest in a better security system or tell Link and Mario to stick around. I am tired of going out and looking for them.
No I am not a M$ or Sony fan boy, 360 has yet to impress me, and the PS3 I will wait till I can get my hands on it to make a decision.
This round of the console wars will not be won on hardware. It will all be software. Sony and M$ have been snagging up all the good franchises and leaving Nintendo to pimp out Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. Point is, Nintendo has been busy trying new things that developers aren't willing to take the risk on a game that cost them 6 months and 100's of thousands of dollars to make that takes advantage of a "gimmick". They have investors that want to see profits, not gimmicks. - Xinex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If nintendo only grew up a little and had something like halo or something to cater to all audiences then they would easily have the best console around. The only problem with the revolution is the games that need to grow up. Don't get me wrong, I ove the old games, but sometimes I just need to blow stuff up.
- davidme00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yes yes yes
- dan_cameron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah sorry guys it was just a midnight rant and I hadn't had the time to check for errors. But even if I did I probably wouldn't have caught them all. I suck.
- dan_cameron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*****, "hadn't had".
- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0PC gaming is great... but i just wanna sit on my couch... and use a macintosh for everything else
- JAppi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This is actually the worst article I've ever read in my life.
- saysaknow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Blog posts always get to the front page, man.
- Dispersion, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I stopped buying Nintendo when they wouldn't let Midway put blood in Mortal Kombat on the SNES. Screw Nintendo and their puffy cartoon characters with big eyes. Nintendo is cool if you're 7.
- toasterwaffle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1who can trust sony and microsoft anymore? sigh..
dugg just because i'm a fanboy. - mattpist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1this article is crap. it's barely over 3 whole paragraphs, doesn't state any facts, and is nothing but a nintendo fan's nintendo-can-never-do-wrong rant. very unbalanced, and not worthy of the front page... so how did it get there?
oh yeah. no digg. - fiberspy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I sold my Gamecube because it's games could not live up to the Halo's and GTA's. I have always thought Nintendo's games were too wimpy, for lack of a better word. I mean, my mom plays Nintendo. Also, Nintendo is turning gaming into something you have to shut the door and lower the blinds for. You will never hear the end of it if another human being sees you waving that remote of theirs at your television. Oh yeah, Gamabunta is totally right.
- mattpist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0and another thing, how could this article even be remotely true? the gamecube has done terribly, and so has the ds. this was totally pulled out of someone's ass.
- mattpist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0to diggnationdevon: unfortunately, i disagree with you... the future of gaming is definitely consoles, as we'll see with this new round up of next gen consoles, they're up to par if not better than any pc's out right now.
unless of course, you want to spend 3000 dollars on a pc. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1You boys are just excited about the dildo controller, aren't you?
