- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+114nothing records is no longer in existence. Interscope is NIN's current publisher, who is, of course, a RIAA member.
On the related subject of DRM, Reznor has this to say:
"The medium of the CD is outdated and irrelevant. It's really painfully obvious what people want — DRM-free music they can do what they want with. If the greedy record industry would embrace that concept I truly think people would pay for music and consume more of it." - SirBotchness, on 10/12/2007, -9/+76Yea, thats why they keep selling records and packing concert venues. Good lord they suck, i wish i sucked that bad.
- ablez3, on 10/12/2007, -50/+104***** THE RIAA
- CamperBob, on 10/12/2007, -4/+56If Trent wants to strike a blow against the RIAA, he can damned well quit signing their contracts, delivering content to them, and taking their money.
I was dugg down to goatse territory for pointing this out in an earlier thread, but it's still true.
For a good laugh, look up Rage Against the Machine on http://www.riaaradar.com . Are we angry yet? - mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -13/+59Just because a band sell out shows, and sell records doesn't make a band good, you *****. So I guess Panic At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, and Nickelback are good by those standards?
For the record, I own every NIN release, every halo. - Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38This is one album I am definitely going to have to buy. Which is a rare occasion for me.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -5/+42Trent love's Apple, coincidence?
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -6/+42We need a Nine Inch Nails section.
- metaphysical, on 10/12/2007, -10/+41So like, is Nine Inch Nails/Trent Reznor the new Mac/Ubuntu/DS/Wii fanboy mainstay here on digg?
- seattle98104, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25and to the track:
http://files.exterminal.net/exhibitA.wav - strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24I was looking at that binary today and thinking "I be that does say something". I don't get the feeling that this is targeted at the RIAA though, although I'm assuming Reznor isn't a fan. The whole album is basically a take on where he feels the country/world may be heading. There's a ton of other viral stuff for this album out there as well including a conspiracy on a mind control chemical being added to our water. It's quite interesting.
Anybody call that 866 number for the "US Bureau of Morality" on the back of the album to report "subversive thoughts" (or whatever it says)?
A recent digg story about some other interesting things NIN is doing: http://digg.com/music/Resistance_meeting_turns_into_free_Nine_Inch_Nails_show_in_LA_w_photos - DrSatan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Uhhh, this is cool, but the headline and description are way off because
1. this has nothing to do with the RIAA
2. it is not a bonus track, it is track 7 'Capital G' - DICKENS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Acutally its slightly different...it was back masked with an additional message attached to it...
"*When inverted and played at the same time as the original, this wav of "Capital G" reveals another Wreckage piece named PAIN: http://www.mediamax.com/shortstop4313/Hosted/exhibitAsolved.wav "
On Mailstrom, submitting PAIN leaves an odd error message with certain letters capitalized. Using the capitalized letters as the shard, it leads to: http://www.themailstrom.com/pain_HTDTNA.htm - nrfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19@anonyjames
Trent has been fighting with his record company since day one. This album (there is a second disc due out in '08) are the last two releases in his contract. Then he'll most certainly go independent. - Tmacman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18I bought the CD. Great stuff, Trent is at the top of his game. But when the CD come out of my drive a different color than when it when in, I had a brief panic thinking there might be a bunch of black crap in my disk drive. LOL what a dope I am.
- onefinalsunset, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18well it's settled then....im buying the new NIN cd.
- zephyrinne, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17How many of today's popular relevant bands have been around since 1989? Not too many. There's a reason Trent and Co. are still hanging in there, and I guarantee you it's not because they 'suck.'
- DanteDefiance, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16@toeknee
He's definitely referring to Bush in Capital G:
"I pushed a button and elected him to office and
He pushed a button and it dropped the bomb
You pushed the button and could watch it on the television
Those ***** didn't last too long
...
Well I used to stand for something
Now I'm on my hands and knees
Traded in my god for this one
And he signs his name with a capital G" - andyhite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14For those of you that want to see the translation yourself, here is the binary from the CD:
01100101 01111000 01110100 01100101 01110010 01101101 01101001 01101110 01100001 01101100 00101110 01101110 01100101 01110100
You can use a utility like http://www.roubaixinteractive.com/PlayGround/Binary_Conversion/Binary_To_Text.asp to decode it. - strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Just finished downloading that finally. Not really a bonus track, as it's on the CD. But whatever... free music :)
Track 7 - Capital G - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17exhibitA.wav isn't a bonus track it's track 7 on YZ, "Capital G" - excellent song, if not my favorite on the album (it's hard to really say because it's constantly changing). But the track is a major knock on our village idiot, President *****-for-brains, and the hordes of apathetic conservatives that have, for a lack of better words, traded in their god for GW because their old one required that they be caring, unselfish and charitable.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14"sucking" is subjective. success isn't for the most part.
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11>>On the related subject of DRM, Reznor has this to say:......
I completely agree. However the longer they take to pull their heads out of their asses, the more resistant people will be to paying for music. I already know a few people that find the concept laughable. EMI/iTunes are making a good first step, hopefully the rest will follow before its too late - rodzilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11All the back flies off and ruins your Cd laser.. and then it vaporizes and causes cancer
- Beatmiser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I'm sad to say that the last NIN Album I can say I actually bought, enjoyed, and grabbed every satellite Halo of is 'The Downward Spiral'. The Fragile was decent when I heard it, but not anywhere near as impacting to me as TDS was. What I've heard more recently, tracks like 'The Hand That Feeds' have in no way measured up to Trent's former work.
I will however put the caveat in that at the age of 31, I lived by Prettyhatemachine and Broken when I was a senior in High School ((Broken came out that year)), and that this fact may cloud my view of his more recent cds. - MrViklund, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@ JernejL
Thanks. Surfed to the site and wondered where the hell the article was :P - MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm 35 and started listening to NIN in 89 when PHM came out. I still love Reznor's work, all of it. To see him breaking new ground and getting people excited about music in 2007 is amazing to me. Now that he's off drugs he's really pulling out all the stops. He made most of Year Zero while he was ON TOUR instead of being loaded all the time. How ***** cool is that?
- SirBotchness, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10only if you put it like that.
- Erowid, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15Thanks for the link.... And sorry to hijack your comment, but... Just thought I don't really know what to make of the title given that nothing records is a member of the RIAA..... http://www.riaa.com/about/members/

- gateway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5yea i posted about this yesterday more about the tech behind the cd color change and a link to the site with the track, which isnt an extra one, its as drsatan pointed out Capital G. http://ibareitall.com/nin-year-cd-changes-colors/
- op12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5it's possible there's more tracks...what's crazy is that there's actually dozens of websites setting up the Year Zero backstory, and Reznor is trying to get the next album (Part 2) to have a movie version: http://symbii.com/stories.php?sid=515&tid=17
- DigitalRambler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This marketing campaign is pure genius! Trent Reznor is going to be considered one most innovative artists of this era.
- d00ley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Using many different methods, labels and the RIAA, in no uncertain terms, enslave artists. It is not as easy to "get out" as you might think.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You like NIN because of Linkin Park? Huh?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5According to the NINWiki page, the statute invoked by the BOM (§ 24.12.2) was also found on the back of a NIN tour shirt in Germany, which seems to be the spawning place of most of Reznor's cryptic antics. Also worth noting: If you press "*" during the message and enter 445-6580 at the prompt (followed by another "*"), you'll hear:
Please leave your name, phone number and any message and your call will be returned as soon as possible. Thank you for calling. - lolgamoff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5he IS one of the most innovative artists of this era.
- ZakColeman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6WTF, If I see one more NIN story, I might... digg it.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/becda289/nin.jpg - fusion1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5the site has nothing to do with the RIAA its part of the whole Year Zero ARG out there..
do you ***** research - robdazomba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Everyone talks a good talk about hating the RIAA, but how many of you trashing them have bought music represented by them in the last year or two? You can't really bitch on one hand while feeding them with the other. Me, I'm going on 5 years of no RIAA-backed music purchases. Can't say I've missed much of anything either. I'm proud to say that I will carry on with that until they stop throwing their power around and using my justice system as their personal collection agency.
Talk is cheap. I have to wonder how many of you are still supporting the RIAA even while you denounce them on Digg. - drgruney, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7@mywhitenoise
"Trent love's Apple, coincidence?"
Yes. - mlostracco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3More on Trent and how he's maintaining his artistic integrity despite the music industry nonsense (written by his producer Bob Ezrin):

I love the randomness of trent reznor!! - cheebs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sweet. Probably will make my macbook's battery explode too.
- shark72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You're going to be dugg down on a massive scale, but you're right. Here's what Trent said last year:
"Just because technology exists where you can duplicate something, that doesn’t give you the right to do it. There’s nothing wrong with giving some tracks away or bits of stuff that’s fine. But it’s not everybody’s right. Once I record something, it’s not public domain to give it away freely. And that’s not trying to be the outdated musician who is trying to ‘stop technology. I love technology."
Obviously he's at odds with about 99% of the Digg population. - shark72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Talk is cheap. I have to wonder how many of you are still supporting the RIAA even while you denounce them on Digg."
We DOWNLOAD music produced by RIAA labels. We just don't PAY for it. Big difference. We get to enjoy the music, but the RIAA doesn't see any of our money. -
