...what?!! - nocitation, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12If they do survive, but would you really want to get all your news from social websites? The problem is that it's mostly news that appeals to everyone that gets promoted, so you end up with diluted and sensational content that doesn't carry much value. That's democracy for you. At its best you get informational content filtered from every reach of the internet, and at its worst you end up with kitty pictures daily.
- BufordT, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9"Can social news sites they survive they very openness that makes them thrive?"
That's not a typo, that's just plain nonsense. What the hell is the thought process involved with this kind of word placement? - ell0bo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8The English is strong with this one
- petersu01, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6surprisingly, that quote IS from the article
- Jadix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Not with headlines like this can they survive they very openness.
- wattznext, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link
- zeiben, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5It's called a "Frankensentence" ©
- OBKenobi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The quality of social news is only as good as the quality of the crowd. Digg attracts too many kids and malicious spammers, the result is that they have taken over what was once a good source of news and info.
- profOblivion, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I'm surprised you haven't been banned yet. Seems you've been linking to edu.org in your comments pretty consistently for more than 6 months now (as far back as I cared to look).
- inv1ctus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4note to dreednyc: *grammar
- Transmission3k, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3From Wired, no less. Get a proofreader!
- shauncorleone, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4buried for lack of a grasp on the English language
- inv1ctus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3"OMGOMGOMGOGMG IPHONE STEVE FOX NEWS SUCKZ0RZ BUSH IS EVIL!!!! GOOGLE IS TAKING OVER MY WORLDZ "
@ OBKenobi did I miss anything? The above is a daily event on digg. But if you can scrape through the nonsensical crap that finds its way to the front page you still have your old newsworthy digg.com. =) - creamboat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Typo is on the article too, kind of pathetic.
- dreednyc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4note to poster: it's a lot more credible when you check the spelling and grammer of your description.
"Can social news sites they survive they very openness that makes them thrive? A think piece on social news sites like Digg, Newsvine, Netscape, etc" - hackajar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I agree, wtf are you trying to say here? If you don't know the english language very well, just cut and past something from the article!
- wattznext, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Think piece maybe. Thought out description...not so much ;)
- bizchris, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If this is an indication of what social news will bring, DO NOT WANT...
- ohhoe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Lol, "think piece"?
Did Lester Bangs tell you to write that? - franksands, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"Can social news sites they survive they very openness that makes them thrive?"
I think I finally succeeded in translating the phrase to english:
"Can social news sites survive *THEIR* very openness that makes them thrive?"
How can they thrive if they speak another language? - tony4moroney, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1wow... you fail at grammar
- LoveTheCoast, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Actually, this show just how important spelling and proper grammar are. That first sentence makes absolutely no sense. Had I, or half the people reading my comment submitted it, (meaning: those of us without 340 friends), we wouldn't have gotten so many diggs.
Goes to show that Digg is nothing more than a popularity contest -- all the more reason why it will never be regarded as a serious news site. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Only if its categorized good.
Pictures are ruining Digg since they are in every area now. I also think Digg needs a Humorous section, the founder of Linux had a picture of him in a g-string get into the Linux section here on digg and I was like WTF? - Lebowski, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1uh...What are you trying to say?
- dbz253, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1wow who came up with the term "crowdsourced"? i imagine they gave themselves an undeserving pat on the back.
- BufordT, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1FTA All in all, Assignment Zero produced 80 stories, essays and interviews about crowdsourcing; we're reprinting 12 of the best. The stories appear here exactly as Assignment Zero produced them. They have not been edited for facts or style.
"We really only picked twelve of them because the other 68 were written in Pig Latin."
Bill Jones - Wired Editor in Chief - bennyshoham, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4When you give power to the people, expect the people to use it, not necesserily wisely. News readers should be more cautious when reading UGC then on standard news sites.
- DigiDave, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Ironic how that is the subject of the article. No?
- DigiDave, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Okay, okay -- I get it!
Calm down everyone. I realize it is a trippy sentence to read over -- but the point comes across clear. - LLLSecretChimp, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2It's open source news. What do you expect?
- brycelb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0It's a "they thinked piece"
Grammar please. - nihilisticmonk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Can thee the submitters trys and spell words the correct way.
- DigiDave, on 10/11/2007, -9/+1typo. The important thing is the ideas discussed -- which are clear.

What is Digg?
