- anorris, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Just a note: I've gone through and negative rated a bunch of posts to clean up. Some of them weren't offensive, but given that the comments they reply to aren't shown, I figured I should get rid of them as well. Don't complain about stupid comments, rate them down and get them off the page. That is how digg can eventually have a better comment section than /. Its just as important to rate comments as it is to rate (digg) storied!
- soulcages01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3this digg page is impossible for me to find via their main homepage.... how the heck do you find it? It's highly unlikely that the average joe user will stumble upon the link anyway unless they are given a direct URL. As other commenters mentioned, this is a small hometown news site - if it was on USATODAY or NBCNEWS.COM, maybe I'd digg it... NO DIGG
- magister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They also use the Google maps API for their traffic camera system. Very cool.
- Elysium1298, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry, but the use of the word "major" is definitely and exaggeration. Good story though
- chasblackman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's on the News page under "Today's headlines."

I don't see digg on their homepage either. - ccheath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Chalk another one up for not being able to find the story from starting at the homepage.
btw -- WWAY3 is local for me, so this gets a little bigger digg for being local - tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1digg is defintely moving more mainstream. is that a good thing?
Personally I don't like the idea of Digg being "mainstream" being that I hate most things mainstream. If thats were Digg ends up going then I'm leaving Digg. - siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This story headline should have been WWAY NewsChannel 3 in NC adds Digg front page stories to website.
- meekar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0awesome
- ,,|,_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like they're feeling the effect... If we squash any servers by running to see it for ourselves, major media outlets may be reluctant to do this
:-s - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ugly news site
- harrisbradley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What defines major media? I'm not flaming, I'm honestly asking. Thanks. Good Digg.
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0holy crap, that's my territory - gooo eastern nc. just kidding this place still smells of swamp.
- lewis6681, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, it's a small news site, but it's my hometown newsite, so I have to give them diggs.
- tresser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What's Digg? Digg is a technology news website that employs non-hierarchical editorial control. With digg, users submit stories for review, but rather than allowing an editor to decide which stories go on the homepage, the users do. Learn more.
That is until a story is dugg that might upset proponents of the site, in which case the story is removed from public view like it was never there. Hooray Digg! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That'S cool...
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Are they paying Kevin? They need to. Also, what's gonna happen when porn gets on the front page?
- MattS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0neat that they did it - NOT a major news outlet. digg is defintely moving more mainstream. is that a good thing?
MS - Toshibi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for the positive feedback on my site. I live 111 miles from Wilmington. I get channel 6, once in a blue moon.
- jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm sorry, but I wouldn't call it a "major media outlet". News channel is a bit more appropriate.
- chasblackman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WWAY TV3 is a market-130 television station in Wilmington, NC, so I wouldn't call it "mainstream." I was just trying to enlighten some of our users by showing them a web site like digg.com (or boingboing or slashdot, etc.) and eventually take the link down after viewers did or did not get a taste for digg.
We're a small TV station, but our web site is a global entity. Blah, blah, etc. - chasblackman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, they filmed Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill and Surface in Wilmington, but more importantly they filmed the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie here in 1990.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks a bit out of place...
- ,,|,_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^"Personally I don't like the idea of Digg being "mainstream" being that I hate most things mainstream. "
wow, how edgy of you ;-) - fenix25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Toshibi your site is pretty nice as well
- t.toe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0interesting. I've been to Wilmington before. a lot of TV shows are taped there. Dawson's Creek was, and now Surface is. interesting that their local news now links to digg...
- Toshibi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's pretty cool. I live in North Carolina but don't get that station. I do have digg on my site as well.....just a little news aggrigate I use as my Home Page. http://news.nctechdept.com
Please dont think I'm spamming. I'm really not. - Lord_oftheTrons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"digg is defintely moving more mainstream. is that a good thing?
Personally I don't like the idea of Digg being "mainstream" being that I hate most things mainstream. If thats were Digg ends up going then I'm leaving Digg."
What do you call the reverse of jumping on the bandwagon. Sounds like a crappy reason to leave. However if it does go mainstream and the content/experience suffers as a result, then thats a good reason to leave.
Underground/mainstream is such a ***** argument going on these days. Who cares what its classified as, is it any good. Thats what matters. - MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
They will regret that when they start getting complaints about the "content" people put up here. Not to mention the retarded comments. - TokenUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just can't see the folk in Wilmington being big on Digg ...
Good idea, but buried as a blip on the website.
(Go heels). - jbwest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg for being in my hometown.
- chasblackman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Should it be a more prominent link in the news section? I'm not sure how our viewers are going to respond to it.
- Hergio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you go to the "News" section from the homepage, there is a link to their Digg story in the "Today's Headlines" section. It does not appear they are using Digg as an additional source of news. Seeing the date on the story, it appears this is just a story for today written about Digg and they are including the homepage RSS feed into their story. So I don't think they are harvesting stories from Digg or incorporating them into their usual news.
Oh Yeah, and "major media outlet"? You must be from Wilmington, NC, aren't ya? - n00854180t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been noticing that major TV news seems to be filtered directly from things that get posted onto Digg and /. with a 3-4 day delay. Given how easily it is to put up self promoting PR articles on Digg(which isn't necessarily a bad thing, if the product is good it gets dugg, if not it doesn't of course), this is fairly interesting.
- Llan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Will they also include the subpar comments?
- jmmb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Slipdisc (2)...Maybe we should "Hit the X button" on those inappropriate comments. I do not want to be the comment police, "flame wars" are not fun. This could be a teachable moment- Comments are difficult to understand without facial jestures that we are accustomed to in face to face conversations.
Read this old DIGG story What Diff Needs Now - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Not with 9 yr olds commenting about trivial matters like a 9 yr old does.
Example: "you and that damn steves job photo are killing me take that ***** out of your posts stupid!"
This has been happening with /. for quite a while now - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Someone needs to hire a professional website designer..
- nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Way to jump on the bandwagon.
- chiapet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0it is a CBS station and they ant small
