- RBotros, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14always wished for that one.
- matija, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10GREAT
now if they would also change it so that when you rename a contact, all their old emails have their new name on them - jamsea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Thank GOD now I can finally get rid of those 2000 emails somebody mail bombed me with!
- Legion303, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7So then Gmail has surpassed Lotus Notes in functionality?
- rlamoni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I have been waiting for this. Until now, you had to (a) do a search, (b) select all the results, then (c) apply the tag or perform the action. Being able to apply filters to old e-mail will be extremely helpful.
- ronaldst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I want IMAP. Gmail is kinda useless when offline.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5whoa, it's like they were reading my mind. I just tried this earlier this morning and wished for something like this. creepy... Google rocks! (yes, I'm a google fanboy. flame me =P)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Most of the time when they add features not every account receives them at the same time so that would probably explain why
- bengarland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+51) I'm not sure if this works, but have you tried re-naming it with a different character at the beginning? (eg. "+Web2.0" or "*Web2.0" or "-Web2.0") Sometimes this will make it sort to the top of the list.
2) Isn't this what your Sent Mail folder is for? Or do I not understand what you are asking for here...
3) You can do a mass select or deselect by holding down the shift key. Click on message #1, hold down shift, click on message #100 and all the messages inbetween are selected. (I do however agree with your point. I hate it when messages are still selected even though I've already performed the action.) - gd007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4why dn't they put these features:
1. sort the labels according to activity. i use the web2.0 a lot these days, and it is always at the bottom of the long list.
2. allow the users to save a copy of draft when he sends it. they can simply put a checkbox for this.
3. deselect the messages when a label has been applied. it is irritating to uncheck after i apply label or any other action on it, e.g. make it read or unread. - knuckleskin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2CRAP! It was only a week ago that I created a bunch of labels and reverse added all my emails. Took me 3 hours! And now it's automatic! CRAP!
- ThisIsSteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wouldn't the fact that the email address is the same tell anyone looking that Jimmy and Jim are the same person?
- blinkfink182, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3so has notepad though...
- Unbathed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"This feature should have been implemented from the start" is equivalent to "This product should not have been made available to anyone, even as a beta, until this feature was implemented."
What nonsense. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2electrosoccertu, following this logic Google shouldn't offer POP access to GMail, but they are offering it anyway. I hope IMAP support will be available anytime soon.
- jzimmerman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I wish they would "fix" the issue where email clients like outlook report email I send from GMAIL as an alias using the "on behalf of" text.
I understand Gmail is following standards by sending it this way, but the real world does not follow standards 100% and we must adjust accordingly.
That and keep the smtp servers off of the RBLs. It is annoying when my email does not get delivered to who I sent it to or it gets bounced because the smtp server it was sent from is showing up on an RBL. - Linh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree... they just have to change the header they use (fastmail.fm allows for true multiple identies, I believe the X-Sender header is used).
Other than imap, I'd like to see signatures based on the identity I'm sending from, off the RBL's, delect after action is done.... and to turn off "auto add to quick contact" list.. that is highly annoying. - gd007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2bengarland,
1) I guess you can do that, it is a hack. Everyone likes to keep their labels nice and clean
2) Keeping it in draft makes it easy to open and send it again to other people.
3) thanks for the tip. - yahoofrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now I can easily backup all my notes (drafts) to another email account. awesome.
- ChanKaiShi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can you delete messages based on filter and already existent messages? Say I have email from "Joe", can I not just label those or just delete those from my Gmail box? Also is it possible to apply filter to messages of certain size since I'm at 30% of my Gmail box size and at some point might delete all those messages with big attachments.
- Daisuke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd always wished for that, too. In fact, I began using filters for that exact reason. I cut my inbox from 9000 emails to 2800. Guess if I still have 2800 I have a big problem on my hands but that 9000 made it impossible for me to even sort through my inbox to see the legit emails and not the porn and viagra spam ones.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yet another feature that should have been implemented from the start.
Great to see that they're still adding things in though. - kevinski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very nice. I use a ton of labels, so this will be useful in the future. Too bad that it hasn't been rolled out to my account yet. :(
- barrettg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Try From:Emailaddress Subs@gmail.com (subs)= Subscriptions (any thing you sign up for)
Adding a and anything after your gmail user name will still come back to your inbox and it makes it easier to filter them.
Hope this helps - CitizenKamb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a dedicated email that I use to sign up for things, which I then automatically forward to my main email. Is there a way to filter all of those into a label? When I do a search for "From: My-subscription-email," it doesn't show any results and the emails coming from it look as if they were sent directly to my main.
It's times like these when I wish we had simple folders back. - traemccombs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm still waiting for the "delete all spam" stuff to get to my user. *sigh* It's been "out" for how long now.. a week+? Who knows when this feature will hit us people in the later alphabets letters.
- apollo13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1so i should be sooo excited ? this is a basic feature of any mail system isnt it? Cut this gmail crap...it doesnt take even a 1 MB upload as an attachment....beta sucks man...
- generalsticky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Its been like that for a while. I did it like a month ago.
- tsunamisteve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is hardly something to get excited over. Until Gmail has all the basic features of mail applications, all these "features" are meaningless.
- redcape, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Sorry that'd be inaccurate reporting on their part. Lets say you sent an email to "Jimmy Bob" on April 13. He receives it and it says in his inbox to: "Jimmy Bob" . If you change the contacts name, that's great, next time you send an email to the newly named "Jim Bob" it'll be in JB's email account as to:"Jim Bob" . If the contacts were to change it would mean that GMail would be lying about who the email was sent to and inconsistencies would appear if both inboxes were inspected.
- GarySwager, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@reklus: Why not just use the labels as folders? Or is it the multiple hierarchies that you miss?
For me, labels are the primary reason to use gmail. I have all kinds of 'meta-tags' I apply to my email to mark them (for example, !photos for any email with photos in them). Very useful! - danidentity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't have the delete all spam button or this filter feature. Boooo...
- reklus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Gmail user 2 years running and I still miss folders. Call me old fashioned.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Prolly won't get IMAP. With IMAP goes any chance for Google to make money on the 5 ads I've clicked since I signed up for gmail years ago. No way those ad clicks paid for triple backups of 140MB of emails.
- Darkhacker, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I think it is wonderful that these features are finally being implemented. It's a funny thing though. If this were Microsoft people would be all over them...
Random Digg/Slashdot User: OMFGBBQ!! Finally. Took them along enough although they are just copying off of XYZ
But when Google does it... call the press I'm having an orgasm! Ok ok... I use gmail myself as my primary email, but I'm just saying. This is good for Google although I think that I'll keep using Thunderbird since the Gmail web client still lacks a lot of features but it is getting much better as time goes on. - bart5986, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I don't have this feature yet... :(
I also got mail bombed a while back, this feature would have been great. But I just manually deleted them. - hrdcregmer808, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2awsome
- WannaFly, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0This is NOT News.Saw it months ago.
