- nullmind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think the coversations above show why we use Firefox: because normal people can. I wouldn't touch Opera because it's community is infected with people like the above.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Good, hope IE dies a slow painful death
- mathie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People want stats badly, it doesn't matter if stats population really represents the reality or only a specific group of users. I have some doubt but go Firefox!
- bash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@jkfan87
so you think mozilla is out to make a buck?
they aren't charging us, although they could, so that can't explain it...
they've open sourced it, which isn't a sure fire way of making money, so that can't be it either...
they are receiving checks from google, but if they are a corporation, they're interested in making as much money as possible, so they would probably close source it and charge for it...but they arent...
gee, jkfan87, i'm stumped, mozilla, a greedy little company? i don't ***** think so.
next time don't be so arrogant. - Handcannons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*************
Good, hope IE dies a slow painful death
*************
If it's going I'd rather it die a quick and spectacular death so there's less suffering for browser users and everyone can get on with using Mozilla or Opera. - bash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@jarda:
"In contrast to most commercial organizations, the Mozilla Corporation is not motivated purely by a desire for profit. Instead, the Mozilla Corporation aims to work towards the Mozilla Foundation's public benefit goals of "preserving choice and innovation on the Internet.""
wiki saves the day once again. - deathguppie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1jarda: "Let me guess... Study sponsored by Mozilla Corp."
I was trying to figure out how you were making a joke, but I don't get it. You have heard of open source software haven't you?? - lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Still amazing how many people use IE! No one i know, but i have some nerdy friends!
- stimpack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol UK trailing with only 11%, my countrymen suck (Bill Gates' *****)
- Bromskloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bromskloss writes: "Aww, it's Ukraine, Lithuania and UK holding us all back. :-/"
And a couple of others, sorry. - curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've noticed similar happenings with many other larger news sites than digg! For example, C|Net/News.com, Slashdot, Google News, etc., put up the exact story that hit digg only minutes to a day or two after the story hit digg, or hit digg's homepage!
- ahsm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good to see about 10% market share in my fatherland (Ukraine). Althought that map is wrong, that is not all of Europe. In that map Europe is cut in half.
- zagi1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good to see Finland reaching 40% of users they must have a thing with Mozilla, they have to set an example for EU.
- jo42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too bad FireFox crashes on me at least once or twice a day. POS in my book.
- bash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jkfan87: eat your own words. google is an advertising company. thats how they make their money. they compromise by adding ads and cluttering up their page.
mozilla doesn't advertise, althought it could like opera. now whose idiotic? if these guys were out to make a ***** profit then they wouldnt open source it, give it away for free, and add ads. they incorporated themselves for tax reasons you dumb *****. as a foundation they couldn't do ***** to keep their non-profit status, but as a corporation they can now do more. either way, they receive the same amount of checks from google.
seriously, your arrogance astounds me. - timjbart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use firefox and have done for a while, but when IE7 comes out all the ignorant people aren't gonna budge.
Needs to be preinstalled on PCs because so many people wouldn't even know how to change their internet browser! - compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I smile everytime my site stats say 60% of my visitors are using firefox. Keep it up little fox. :)
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone else find it ironic that schools are still using Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer for Mac? :P
- NeilM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is GREAT news! Now if Firefox would just fix that f*cking memory leak and gigantic ram usage and the list goes on. Still, I would "never" switch to any other browser unless it matched Firefox's potential. (No, Opera does not match Firefox's potential the least).
- towsonu2003, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0where is turkey (not even IN TF map) belarus and others?? is this a message for us or what?
- dep01, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Holy *****! If it's presented to us in a PIE CHART, it MUST be true!!!!
- tryferos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Eh I have used both IE and Firefox...both work fine, but I do like the whole "community" feel of Firefox and the endless and useful plugins for it.
Firefox is definitely the more exciting of the two and provides a much better web experience. - driedwater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Does anyone else find it ironic that schools are still using Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer for Mac? :P"
Not at the school district here.. they use firefox. - wookiekiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As a Firefox user, I always love to see the market share go up.
- coolmojito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good. I wonder why anyone uses IE these days.
- curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/01/17/2059216&from=rss
Is Slashdot now taking news from digg rather than the reversal (digg taking stories from slashdot) now?!
The story was only reported today at 5:08 P. M.! - elfguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+049% using Firefox on my site
http://www.cellwatch.ca - curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes the claim Firefox is faster, but IE is only faster because it is embedded ans pecifically written for the Windows OS! And the only reason Opera is the safest browser is because it holds one of the smallest marketshares, whereas the more popular web browsers get the more exposed they become as a target for hackers looking for security flaws! Firefox is still the most versatile browser, allowing you to change and modify it as you chose, through code, extensions, etc. and has the best community backing of any other browser!
- cavicster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great! Maybe the IE fan boys I know will start using a better option.
- busta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The reason there are so many "FF FANBOYS OMG LAMEXOR" is because there's been no real alternative for SO long. The only browsers that I've opened up and liked right off the bat were Firefox and Konquerer. Firefox has some issues but overall I find it's so much smoother to use than IE. Overall it displays pages better, and with the extensions I have so many time saving efficient browsing things built in...
so stop picking on the fanboys, they're just getting excited because they've never had a real chance to before!!
Anyways, I was going to say that my University has FireFox on all of it's computers... which is nice... because it's more popular than IE there. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"goes to show that more americans are idiots compared with Europeans... because we all know non idiotic people use Firefox"
"This once again proves that Europe is ahead of dumb americans!"
I bet at some point, while you were typing, you thought these post were just so clever. - Punisher2K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Which means 85% of the US doesn't
Digg us back when there is something to actually brag about. - urmothersmother, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maxthon is the best. That's it flames extinguished. Oh and no digg :p
- Kiba, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1More Firefox bashing commends :(
All of ya opera fanboy are very vocal. We know Opera is a superior browser and all of that. But I like Firefox more than opera. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You gotta figure all the school and work computers running IE. I'd assume many have agreements. The rest simply don't have the knowledge or feel the need to switch browsers. If they never had a major vulnerability problem, and already have a system of upgrading every computer on the network, why fix what isn't broken? I myself wouldn't want my employees or students running plug ins and stuff with firefox. IE is pretty simple and just gets the job done (unless you're talking to an anti-ms or CSS fanboy). Firefox is more for home use and power users. Maybe if there was a simple, no feature, safe-for-work version, but would that count, since it's not the same? Were work and school computers in these statics, and should they be or not? The way I see it, it's a different market.
I'm mostly suprised at how many firefox users havn't upgraded yet. Then again, I still have yet to re-upgrade mom's computer *ashamed*. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
IE7 is going to clean the floor with firefox
Keep dreaming. Firefox 2.0 Alpha is coming out within weeks and 3.0 early next year. You have not seen anything yet! - lbtori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have been using FF when it was still firebird and it was always nicer than IE.. Main reason for me was tabs and later adblock. Security helped as well but as Im quite paranoid even IE fails to fill my PC with random spyware etc etc. Now I've got IE7 and FF 1.5 and IE7 even in XP (its not really designed for XP) is much faster and seems as secure. Doesn't have adblock which is a shame but that will get sorted eventually (I hope). FF seems to use up too much ram lately and crashes when you type the wrong url and other nice stuff like that. Im not IE or FF fan.. I just use the one when the other dies more or less... But in any case 15% even if its real is quite far from taking over the market.
- WikiTerra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You know, I suddenly stopped caring about this. I mean...what the *****. How the ***** does this matter?
I think I'm going to throw my computer out my window. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"80% of users are firefox on my site"
45% Firefox on my site. - evil-doer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if you go to the site it shows a map of all of north america, not the united states. btw. i found some stats that break up the usage in canada and united states for firefox use here: http://www.betanews.com/article/Firefox_Passes_10_Percent_Usage_Share/1130949499
to sum up: united states 14%, canada 17% - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not a fair race between FF and IE.
Mozllia isn't handicapped with retards for engineers working on FF like MS is with IE. - Ajzzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Firefox is open source so you get a comforting feeling using it, it's just no where near as good as Opera. If someone were to offer a Firefox based browser that's an alternative I'd use it, it would have to have all the features Opera has that extensions don't quite get right, and obviously the interface and speed would have to be better.
I think rivalry between FF and Opera is silly, a) Opera isn't nearly as big, b) there is a much greater evil that is Internet Explorer. These statistics are probably BS, but I see more people converted (some by me to FF or Opera) everyday. - lukebuzzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's always going to depend on the site sampled.
If you go by a large sample of websites that are using Omniture's Sitecatalyst (the 2o7.net cookie) software (Macromedia, Apple, AOL, Novell, Walmart etc.) Firefox is only at 10% but it's going up around 1% per month. IE 6 usage has been continually rising as people upgrade from IE5 and 5.5. - JesseJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah. Good to see Finland at the top with 38%
- avi8or, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Even guys from the team that wrote IE agree! http://davidbau.com/archives/2006/01/07/firefox_tipping_point.html
- Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have no animosity towards any browser. Whatever is better/faster/safer is what I use. Right now, thats Firefox. IE 6 stinks. IE7 doesn't look great either, but evidently the betas are not feature complete.
- hunchback, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love and use FF, but they seriously need to fix the memory issues, cold-start times, pauses (crashes) when using plug-ins (QT, PDF), and security problems. I still don't trust Opera yet to render pages correctly, IE acts like its a crippled FF.
- Noize, on 10/12/2007, -0/+080% of users are firefox on my site
http://www.sixinchscrews.com/
im going good :D - Turminator999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0w00t
- wordupcousin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm willing to guess users on 50% of digg.com and slashdot.org are firefox users, while 97% of msn.com users are still on IE.
