- ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I mean, the whole thing in general stinks. No matter what Kevin or whoever says, the whole thing is very suspicious, and raises doubt about what the site is really about. If you are questioning the integrity of the content on the site, thats nothing but bad news for digg....heres a little link i came across....
http://linux-blog.org/index.php?/archives/134-The-Dirt-on-Suspicious-Digging-at-Digg.com.html
a nice little collection of some sites covering this story....its, not my blog by the way... - ALLCAPS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I don't know if all this talk of 'corruption' is true or not. I kind of doubt it on instinct. But the Digg management really need to tell the users clearly what's going on before the site's reputation is ruined. A front page statement from them would be a very good idea.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8great link, I didnt know how much had been written about this
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Administrating/editing a website you own, and becoming the fascist dictator of a country really aren't comperable.
At least, as far as I know, Mr. Rose hasn't killed any Jews.
Yet. - charl0tt3m, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Actually, a well put together wiki on digg, but a little thin on the current goings on. I would guess that we'll be seing a lot more scrutiny in the future on such sites like digg, and even possibly more "traditional" media outlets as they start to develop such applications where "readers" elevate the content.
- moohamadiscrazy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5blugu64, I have just reported you as a user - this is not spam, I could care or less what someone else is doing
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+13sorry kevin rose, I didnt know you had other usernames; now it all makes sense
- dnthomps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree with what you say to a certain point but other news sites do not claim what Digg claims: "Digg is a technology news website that combines social bookmarking, blogging, RSS, and non-hierarchical editorial control. With digg, users submit stories for review, but rather than allow an editor to decide which stories go on the homepage, the users do."
- vick04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3BE happy you guys even have a chance to complain...not many sites will allow this to go on..
DELL got rid of there forums because of all the complaining and look at them now! there doing fine...Be carefull what you wish for couse you just might get it! - ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3though your point is true,Upriverpaddler, its goes even beyond just censorship and getting modded......I think DeadlyHunter, and others can see why this type of practice would go on......
- moohamadiscrazy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it wasnt on the front page, its not even listed on my profile as being on the front page
look for yourself
http://digg.com/users/moohamadiscrazy/homepage - Aztlan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Personally I tend to ignore post on digg that go to blogs because the tend to be opinions not news. And I seen to many self promoting bloggers on digg who would write anything to get readers to there site.
- ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2shaun944, im not saying this is like WWF, totally fake stuff on here, and I totally respect your opinion, but you honestly cant believe that the people here at digg, whether a certain number of users, or the people that are directly involved at digg, have influenced what we see on the frontpage outside of just "digging the story" then more power to you. You can not tell me that Kevin Rose and/or users are not promoting certain stories to uphold some kind of interest. I mean, its his site he does whatever he wants, but if thats the case, he is going outside HIS OWN tos, and puts question to his and the sites own integrity and what they REALLY stand for on digg. I wont go as far as saying "fraud", that would be taking it all out of context, I mean it is just a website, but with all that happend the last two days, there is more going on then certain stories just gettng buried, and other stories making it to the frontpage. I mean, if you did a search with the term "digg" yesterday at noon, compared to today at noon, you would see a CONSIDERABLE number of stories, most of which are scrutinizing digg, are NOWHERE to be found on the site, including the one from Kevin Rose himself responding to the digg fraud. This is after everything started going down yesterday. Why? I mean, you cant honestly believe that "fishy" stuff, for lack of a better term, isnt going on behind the scenes for one reason or another.......All Im saying is think outside the box and think why this digg "fraud" COULD be going on......all im saying is, it would be nice to see an official statement come from Kevin, maybe even on TWIT clearly explaining what happend the last couple days......and if he is involved with articially promoting stories to the front page, for whatever reason, just say so
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2you didn't login yesterday did you?
http://forevergeek.com/news/digg_corrupted_editors_playground_not_userdriven_website.php
forever geek reported it that kevin rose was involved in automatically script digging, THEN they got banned, but now they aren't banned, so if they were really trying to direct traffic to their site then why are they unbanned?

http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/technology/archives/2006/04/20/digg_corrupted_forever_geek_makes_the_case.html
if you cant understand whats going on from all these articles then look up the stories yourself look at the order of the diggs - TigerX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Watching the Digg Spy... People are agreeing with me.
Thanks for playing gentlemen.
Oh, and reporting a two month old story as Lame isn't report system abuse? Brilliant standards... - shaun944, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2really ProAm, its "plain to see"? All I see is one dude basically spamming Digg with his craptastic stories alleging corruption, but without proof other than the fact that his own spamming duplicate stories are getting tossed into the trash because people mark them as a) inaccurate, b) spam or c) lame.
oh and I see a couple monkeys jumping up and down because "the files are IN the computer" - moohamadiscrazy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3you think I care tigerx? story is already buried
but I'm going to report you as a user as this is a wiki not spam therefore you are abusing the report system - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@shaun944
http://linux-blog.org/index.php?/archives/134-The-Dirt-on-Suspicious-Digging-at-Digg.com.html
http://forevergeek.com/news/responding_to_kevins_nonresponse_post.php - ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2funny you would make that claim sishgupta, yet you dugg the original story about censorship on digg.....
- Upriverpaddler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Heres how I see it. A tech weblog is a website run by tecnophiles with content posted at their discretion. A tech forum is a website run by technophiles with content posted by anyone who can think up a username and password.
While the concept of digg.com is great, it IS just a tech forum in a weblog mask. Anyone can say anything in a forum. Maybe the mods and admins will catch you, maybe they won't. - kupodan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Entirely too much energy is wasted on trying to prove that there is corruption here. The top dugg stories have between 1000 - 2000 diggs per week.... c'mon I seriously doubt that 8 guys digging stories in the beginning are going to skew results....
- EnricoFermi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It's funny that this article is on wikepedia, another site that has come under fire for it's accuracy and authenticity.
- shaun944, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2EH? Digg is corrupt according to sites wishing to be Digg and Slashdot, who is in no way a competitor of Digg's....riiiiiggghhhttt. Come on people stop posting and believing these stories over and over. So what you put a comment on Wiki about it, just because its on wiki doesn't make it anything resembling fact, and wiki now lists the page as under review.
This isn't on the front page because its a dupe of a dupe of a dupe, etc...
and as for the "statistical analysis", are you freakin kidding me? If someone has the time to do a statistical analysis of the articles at digg, what is their motivation? If you think its simple curiosity or you believe that statistics (if it was even actually done) can't be manipulated to meet a biased analysts views, then I have a bridge you can buy.
If you want to get fired up about corruption, why don't you take a look at the White House and spend your efforts working to expose and fix that corruption instead of wasting time doing "statistical" analyses of tech news sites. - ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2and it looks like this story has been totally removed from digg as well. If you search "digg" nowhere to be found.....
- blugu64, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Reported as SPAM!! Some guy is posting links to this article in every other article!
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -10/+10Ah, okay:
1) I'm most definitely not Kevin Rose
2) I'm not really going to mark as spam, I'm just getting frustrated with the sheer volume of these stories
3) I'm not 'retarted'. If anything, it would be 'retarDed', but still no.
4) Technically, according to a less popular definition, this could actually be considered spam, but as I said, I don't actually feel *quite* as strongly as I seem to. - sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Please. Don't give this that much hype. These criticisms are the inherent flaws with a system like digg. Digg is news from the people by the people and as people often have their own agendas, digg is often influenced by that.
If you need a wikipedia article to inform you of these obvious flaws, there is a larger issue at hand. Either accept digg for what it is, or leave it and possibly start something better. I'm sure the guys behind digg are doing their best though and I am also sure that many would find it difficult to do better.
The claims that Kevin uses his powers to make certain stories appear or disappear are dubious at best.
I don't know if they are true or not, but I also don't care. Show me another news site that doesn't manipulate the front page stories. I'd bet that even if digg does it, its relatively minimal compared to most sites. - shaun944, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@ProAm I did see the stuff yesterday, as I said earlier its all hearsay reporting being hosted on sites like Slashdot that are direct competitors of Diggs, which is pretty questionable reporting if you ask me. The stuff yesterday was the same as this, it was allegations that digg censored an article about digg censoring an article about digg censoring an article. Its all circular bs perpetuated by the mob mentality of someone yelling fire and then noone bothering to look and see if there's smoke.
@Deadlyhunter, umm the linux-blog article references allegations made by some "users", those wouldn't happen to be the same users now bombarding the boards with spam or perhaps the forevergeek crew who was banned for trying to manipulate Digg to direct traffic to their sites, now would they?
and the forevergeek stuff, see above, you expect them to come out and say, yep we tried to game the system of our competitor and got caught?
Digg ain't a perfect system, but allegations of corruption, beyond being downright silly, are factually incorrect, and baseless. - ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I agree, this guy might be spamming because of the multiple posts, but im not talking about this article specifically, i cam care less about this article, notice how i didnt digg it.....its more about what went on yesterday, then what this guy is posting......i hope you were able to read the goings on yesteday because they were removed from the site if you didnt.....
shaun944, read the posts hunter mad and my comments from yesterday to catch up, and you will see exactly where i'm coming from.... - ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2its not about just scewing results. I think people are missing the real issue here, its about the integrity of the site, and whats really going on....use your brain for a sec, why would Kevin Rose and/or digg and/or certain users want stories ont he frontpage? its plain to see why this practice could and does exsist?
- cmcarson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3seriously, i'm one who will buy pretty much buy into any conspiracy theory, but i'm not too sure about this one. i think the main problem is the new friends feature. tons of people are friends with kevin because he tells them to be on diggnation. then they can all see what he's digging and people digg it without even reading it because hey its kevin rose. this morning there were about seven stories in a row that were dugg by kevin in the queue and they were on the front page within a couple hours. i don't know. i could be wrong.
- dnthomps, on 10/12/2007, -6/+467 diggs and still not on home page? I have been watching the story in Digg Spy since it was posted and it may have had maybe 20 dings(probably less). Don't know exactly how the algorithms work but this is awfully fishy.
- sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1it was on the FP but clearly Rose knocked it off.
/sarcasm
it really was on the FP though. - Aztlan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1@ProAm500
Why did you think just searching for "digg" was going to be easy to find this article in 305 pages
next time try "Digg Corruption" http://digg.com/search?search=Digg+Corruption&submit=Search&area=all&type=both&age=60&search-buried=on
and it's still there with other dupes - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2your spamming tigerx
- tocksin, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Note this link goes to the wikipedia entry for Digg.com, NOT Digg Corruption. A large percentage of the content is "Criticism" so it's not neutral, even though a good attempt was made it appear to be.
- TigerX, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2--> Spam
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -12/+8AUGH! I think I'm going to start reporting these as spam. Holy crap. Let's try going 45 seconds without submitting another story about Digg's 'corruption'.
- bluevideosquid, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2rofl, such a bad pun its funny :)
- tigerwingz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3why would you mark as spam? are you retarted? do you even know what spam is?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_%28electronic%29
its a link to wiki NOT an ad - stoops, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1So, who's gonna start digging into digg's corruption? Sorry, I couldn't resist.
- bluevideosquid, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1nothing /sarcasm
