Ha, If only people were like that. I'm losing all hope on humanity. Specially when people think its ok to hand so much power to a goverment in order to feel protected.
Sure eventually people will wake up, but by that time it will be already too late.
"Have you ever heard the sound of a nation being rocked to sleep?
The leaders want to keep you numb so the pain won't be so deep
But if we the people let them continue another mother will weep
Have you ever heard the sound of a nation being rocked to sleep?"

Ill bring the Thermite! - Udon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is great news! While the US companies will be forced into stoneage the European and Japanese companies continue to do innovative products. Less competitors since the Americans are doing tape decks that nobody wants.
- SniperGX1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Welcome to the united states of embarassment
- JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have a Suggestion:
FlashCall.
Everybody, Grab your MTS Phone Cards and Skype Devices...
At a Set point (Perhapse Monday, January 4th, 3:00 PM EST) Everybody could potentially call the Senate at (202) 224-3121 to speak with their senators, and tell them about the effects of such legislation.
just a potential solution *hint hint*

It only takes 101 :-P - rhsjr7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Something for us (U.S. Residents) to consider If these measures were to be enacted, said innovative foreign products would be deemed illegal here, Tech sales would plummet and the markets would recess. I for one am not going to jail in 10 years for watching 'Queer Eye' in 2160p - Hi-Def - Global Sound, on my 5PB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petabyte) Flash based Pseudo Holographic Media Center. (it's still in beta).
Attention FBI... I copy DVD's, Without Monetary Gain.... come and get me.

Richard H. Smith Jr. - trencher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you want to take action on this the EFF has a page that you can use to submit a letter to your Senators.
https://secure.eff.org/site/Advocacy?JServSessionIdr006=6tmvxqon91.app8a&cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=205 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1By the way, this isn't a dupe. There are a lot of broadcast flag articles here, but this one was just published by the EFF yesterday.
- techlinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The iPod was not, I repeat NOT the first mp3 player. Goddamnit. Anyone remember iRiver? Pretty sure it was them who had the first mp3 player.
- TheQwe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ArthurSucks: how is capitalism at fault here? It seems to me that the problem is that the RIAA is trying to defeat their competition by creating an non-capitalist market.
- ArthurSucks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@TheQwe
It used to be that capitalism embraced competition. Pizza wars, innovation, Hype were the tools most used. In modern Capitalism our tools are FUD, lawyers, DMCA, to destroy all competition. That's my take on the whole thing.
Peace! - designbydave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1please everyone write your "congress critter"

But I live in a fantasy world where real evil is punished. - kilps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My thought is that if this was to be passed in the US then other countries would produce the stuff, people will see how good it is and complain ....
How nice it is not to live in America at times :P - Zonkzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"As scary as this DRM stuff is, part of me wants to see this all get passed. If the entertainment idea is let free to implement"
Wow did I screw those sentences up. I ment to say "entertainment industry's" and "left free".
Sorry about that internet. - mushoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Had to be and (R-) senator. Although to be fair the whole congress is on the mean side on this issue. Even Conyers of all people is grazing the dark side on this one.
- definiteform, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg. Wrote to Congresswoman.
- ArthurSucks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This also stifles content creators. If you outlaw the competition, no independent artists stealing your audience. The dark nature of capitalism shows it's ugly head once again.
- xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why don't we just stop watching all hollywood type movies, I mean movies are not the only thing out there.
- Mediaright, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's all BS. These people have no feeling in them except for their pocketbooks and egos. I say we riot now. Screw waiting for panic to ensue.
- Xibby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So Sony/BMG and Sony Pictures are trying to shoot down innovative new products from Sony Electronics.
Seriously though, I don’t see companies such as Sony, Apple, Dell, Toshiba, TiVo, Panasonic, etc. sitting idle and letting the RIAA/MPAA try to influence the passing of a law that will limit their revenue source. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0damn, my bad. The older article focused more on the flag and this one focused more on the ***** historical aspect of the law.
- bryan8m, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The RIAA and MPAA are no doubt very evil organizations with extremely anti-consumer, money-hungry desires. They are a disgrace to the content they claim to represent. More disappointing, it's likely our congress, who is at the mercy of lobbyists, won't think twice about passing this legislation.
- Zorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm in Australia, but our politicians will blindly follow the US. Defeat this legislation! But be careul—just because they make extreme and impossible demands does not mean that what they will actually get away with isn't itself dangerous. This kind of proposal must be defeated IN FULL.
- Mekun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The ***** senator had to be from my state. Man im ashamed of this state.
- Corrosionx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Everybody should convert to libertarianism, then no worry about pansy CEO's trying to make laws passed to protect their business models!
It would be better sooner than later - naples, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i wrote to my senator.
i ***** hate this country. i wish i knew people in UK, i would go in a second. - Biggles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IF THIS IS PASSED IN THE US, EVERYONE ELSE IS SCREWED TOO!!!!!
Surely there has to be something in your constitution that can prevent this. - FreyrVanir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Russ Feingold for President in 2008. He was the only person to vote NO against the Patriot Act in 2001.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russ_Feingold
Here is one of the many highlights that stand out to me about the man.
"Campaign finance reform
Feingold is perhaps best known for his work alongside Senator John McCain on the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, better-known as the McCain-Feingold bill, which took the two almost seven years to pass.
On July 14, 2005, Feingold introduced a bill to the Senate that would ban lobbyists from giving gifts to senators and impose a $50,000 fine for violating the ban; force lawmakers to sign statements saying that lobbyists did not pay their travel expenses; bar congressmen, staffers, and executive branch officials from serving as lobbyists for two years after leaving office; and require that lobbying reports be disclosed on a quarterly, rather than semi-annual, basis. At the same time, Congressman Marty Meehan of Massachusetts, who co-wrote the House version of McCain-Feingold, and Congressman Rahm Emanuel of Illinois introduced a similar bill in the House. Neither bill has yet come to a vote." - Alphabet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol @ republican politicians
- vannyx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0where is code name V when you need him. " V for Vendetta" This stuff is %*&%*$ up. soon your going to be arrested for hooking up devices together to perform new functions and do new things. News at 11 a 13 yearold created a program and chip that beams tv directly into your brain, this new device that he created is against he historic use law inacted by congress 20 years ago.
- BritOverseas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What can I say, when will they learn. I live half in the States and half in the UK. One thinks they are the technology hub of the World, one follows in policy but is actually much further ahead in most points, and then there is the actual technology hub in Asia that puts us all to shame... You know who you are.
Oh and I too copy content, for none profit means. If these people think I am going to pay $50 bucks for one "Dora the Explorer" DVD for my daughter, they can bite me. ($15 for actual DVD, then it would be another $20 for PSP proprietry UMD, and another $15 for another copy to play in the car, blah blah blah), hey man, if you got kids you don't know what a great innovation in car DVD is... - xtremdav45, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@freyrvanir
and this is relevent to this why? I dont care if Feingold voted against the Patriot Act. You never mentioned his stance on Fair Use. Does he have one?
go campaign somewhere else - GhostFreeman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Remember that when the elections start this year, the Democrats pushed for broadband accessibility, copyright reform, patent reform, and better regulations to protect open source.
Don't believe me? Search for yourself. - linkvx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really dont think they have that much power, people will just buy stuff from other places.
- jabocsnake123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow I might be imposing on someones copyright in this post...
- DaWolfman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*SIGH*
Not again. Are we going to be fighting with the media industry for the rest of time until they win?
Believe it or not, the entertainment industry has actually donated more $$$ to Democrats than Republicans:
http://opensecrets.org/industries/contrib.asp?Ind=B02&cycle=2006 (Probably b/c they need more Democrats to sway to their side)

If you would have read my post in full you would have seen why its relavent.
"Feingold introduced a bill to the Senate that would ban lobbyists from giving gifts to senators and impose a $50,000 fine for violating the ban"
This would help stop big business from paying off senators which would stop a lot of the crap like whats going on in this story article. - nuxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0umm...actually, techlinks...that honour goes to Diamond Multimedia/SonicBlue...the creators of the Rio PMP300...
I had one back in the day. heh, 32MB!!! - TheQwe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ArthurSucks:
What you're describing isn't capitalism, it's the semicapitalist market that exists in the US today. In a pure capitalist market, the only thing you mention that would still exist is FUD, and then it would be only coming from the private sector. If the US had a truly free market, we wouldn't have the DMCA, the broadcast flag, or, some might argue, even the FCC.
What you're doing is confusing an absolute(capitalism) with a relative(the market of the United States). - styryx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0like i posted in the other thread, look at this analogy:
the *PAAs are recognising that their industry is changing, they're trying to prevent this. Well, i've got news for them, TOUGHT *****. If they get this bill through it will be the EXACT SAME as CANDLE MAKERS putting a law through that you can only use LIGHT in HISTORIC senses, because of LOSS OF PROFIT DUE TO THE LIGHTBULB!!
Where's THEIR support of the Candlemakers?? DON'T tell me you have a lightbulb!! Or electricity, a means by which you can move your lightbulb to ANYWHERE in YOUR house!!
NO, NO, NO. You must purchase a seperate light source for every point you need one.
They're driving nails into their own coffins faster than piracy (which has ALWAYS existed) ever could. Why? Because this bill hurts consumers and will turn them into pirates. Way to make everyone a criminal MPAA. - Abx0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@Richard:
