RIP The Pirate Bay. - D3koy, on 07/17/2009, -1/+461They should change the name to "TheRoyalNavyHarbor.org"
- LiquidSpark, on 07/16/2009, -2/+459So what. TPB will die and another site will take it's place. Just like when Supernova and TorrentSpy went down. It was fun while it lasted.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -3/+355Yes! That's what I've always wanted! Pay for stuff I don't want to pay for!
- Gndoab, on 07/17/2009, -9/+321I said this a while ago on a pirate bay article, and I think it bears repeating...
The guys running the pirate bay were never in it to fight the man. They made lots, and lots of money on that site from advertising, and I'm sure various other things (clothing and who knows what else). as soon as the revenue stream threatened to dry up (the trial verdict), they sold it to someone for....wait for it...lots, and lots more money.
Fighting the man was a by-product of their making tons of money, but I think that they would have avoided it if they could have (to a point. that edge was also part of their brand)
So yeah. They ran a website, made tons of money, and then sold it to make tons more money. they weren't some robin hood force in the world for good. they are in fact more of exactly what people despise about the RIAA and MPAA, they just offered a product that people really liked, and for the right cost (free). welcome to the real world. - IShouldBeWorkin, on 07/16/2009, -2/+278Pirate Bay will go the way of napster and never be heard of again.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -5/+271As I recall, charging a fee worked out really well for Napster
- mattluiz, on 08/28/2009, -7/+210First rule about Demonoid: you do not talk about Demonoid.

- Anonymous3891, on 07/16/2009, -4/+143Pirates don't stay in business by paying their victims. Neither will GGF.
- LPfmAAF, on 07/17/2009, -1/+137You know TPB is dead when the new owners are loved by the music industry.
RIP The Pirate Bay 2003-2009 - woodyex1, on 07/17/2009, -1/+137I love supporting the artist. That's why I paid $20 for "In Rainbows". That's also why I'm going to the warped tour this weekend and I will buy at least 2 overpriced shirts. The artists don't earn much money from record sales. They make the real cash from touring.
Here's my big arguement: A movie costs millions of dollars to produce. An album costs maybe a million. Why do both cost the same amount at retail? Is $20 a magic number or are the labels really putting the screws to the consumer? - Mtbeaver, on 07/17/2009, -2/+135Paying a fee DOES defeat the purpose of the site. It also completely goes against everything the creators of the site stood for.
- jemka, on 07/17/2009, -2/+113The new "pirate bay" will having nothing to do with that pay site.
- viper001, on 07/17/2009, -0/+104Hahaha, wow. I don't know which is worse, the fact that the new TPB owners believe their user base will pay a dime (It's called the PIRATE Bay for a reason), or that they actually think the 'copyright holders' won't bleed them dry.
- vashth3stampede, on 07/17/2009, -0/+102ABANDON SHIP!
ABANDON SHIP! - holyskeleton, on 07/16/2009, -9/+104I lold when I saw a monthly fee. wasn't that the whole point of this thing?
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -3/+97So, they expect us to pay AND seed? ha!
- rnawky, on 07/17/2009, -0/+87A piracy website just wants my name, billing address, and credit card number. How bad could it be?

Dam shame to lose the name me matees.
But in the end thats all they bought. - PacGamer, on 07/17/2009, -7/+60F**king sellouts...
the whole preface to TPB was to prevent payments and restrictions of any kind... whatever...
RIP TPB. - americanoboy, on 07/17/2009, -1/+53it's not really a pirate bay then, is it
- alman783, on 07/17/2009, -3/+54Calm down People.
There will be a new site just as good.
And this new pirate bay will quickly fail as people flock to the one - trevorr, on 07/17/2009, -2/+51Sad but true.
That's exactly why I didn't buy a shirt when they were going down and telling people to "buy a shirt and vote"...
I wonder how much they're going to pay to not go to jail... - DirkBelig, on 07/17/2009, -1/+48These guys must've been out sick the day they discussed the smashing success that the legal and for-pay Napster was.
