- TylerWentAway, on 07/09/2009, -1/+30stop the f*cking presses! someone has been sighted attempting to make money off the internet!
- Nayson, on 07/09/2009, -0/+22Its fine by me if they need to find a way to make the site profitable.
A significant number of people (possibly the majority?) dont access Twitter via Twitter.com anyway.. - sammryder, on 07/09/2009, -1/+21At least its a Firefox ad
- EastCoastGnar, on 07/09/2009, -0/+15If they can keep 75 spammers from following me every day, I wouldn't mind an ad here or there.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -3/+18*****, if this is gonna be that kind of party, I'm gonna stick my dick in the mashed potatoes.
- Nerf, on 07/10/2009, -0/+10I don't think this is an ad. As TechCrunch said, its a possible public service announcement to get users away from IE. there is no proof its a for purely ad money.
- hazello, on 07/10/2009, -3/+11WAit! There used to be advertising supported sites on the internet? Too bad cheap ass ***** used adblock plus until they all closed, since people can't work for free, and now there's just major corporation created and subscription services.
- GreenAlien, on 07/10/2009, -1/+8The problem is ABP blocks all adverts, and not just the annoying ones. Unobtrusive text ads should be encouraged by just blocking the ones that flash and pull all your attention from the actual content.
This "Everything has to be free" ***** will come back to bite everyone. - cubicledrone, on 07/09/2009, -6/+13Thanks for advertising Adblock Plus! Does Adblock have a setting that erases these ***** "there are ads on the Internet?" ads?
- chockster, on 07/10/2009, -2/+8No, they say that 80% of people never return to Twitter. i.e. they never tweet again. Which they don't.
It has nothing to do with visiting the web site vs. not. - darkmotion, on 07/10/2009, -1/+7Why the hell is the front page of digg plagued with twitter 2-3 articles constantly?
- music4mic, on 07/10/2009, -1/+6ad block anyone??? ***** works like a charm.
Also(@dude bitching about spam), you only see spam from the people you follow...so quit following random people jackass. - Super6, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5True that, I wouldn't mind ads coming to me through my stream every 50 messages or whatever if they could get rid of those
- chadmcveigh, on 07/09/2009, -2/+6I have no idea what that means, but I think I like it
- lex0nyc, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4There is a setting for that.
- samanathon, on 07/09/2009, -10/+14Wait - there are ads on the Internet?
Thanks Adblock Plus! - AboveandBeyond, on 07/10/2009, -1/+5I wish I could see it...thank you ad block plus.
- aychseven, on 07/10/2009, -1/+4people still log in to twitter.com to tweet?
- Domthedude001, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3The list (EasyList) everyone subscribes to isn't even default; it's just at the top of the list and the only option that is in English.
- Beatmiser, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3http://mic-to-mic.blogspot.com/2007/06/mashed-pota ...
- munikho, on 07/10/2009, -1/+4I wish this ad was everywhere, maybe then we wouldn't be stuck with IE anymore...
- Evolve, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3"This is not an advertisement and it’s not just for one browser—it’s customized based on which browser you’re currently using"
So if they use FireFox it says:
"Twitter recommends that you update to the latest version of Internet Explorer."
Ohh yeah I know, but I can dream cant I ? - GreenAlien, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3Unless it's the default, it's pointless.
- Goose31, on 07/10/2009, -2/+4I don't get why people make such a big fuss about ads... Twitter needs to raise money somehow! And I wish all of the Adblock Plus drones would just leave Digg. I don't understand how people get pissed off when they see an ad. It helps funds the site you're browsing.
- Kate1240, on 07/10/2009, -1/+3Actually, I really don't understand this? How does this differ from a normal ad? Can someone elaborate on this who prominent ad thing?
- eliburford, on 07/10/2009, -1/+3Isn't IE the horse to be betting on now, though? What about the check list?
- GreenAlien, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2Exactly.
- aychseven, on 07/10/2009, -1/+2hmm... good question. i guess we'll never know.
- xino, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1I think in the case of twitter, people are just interested in how twitter plans to make money.
- Barter00, on 07/10/2009, -1/+2Nope. It's not.
- Yage2006, on 07/10/2009, -1/+2And boom just like that people hate you.
/S - xino, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1I have ad block, but it doesn't block ads for me. I can add digg.com and it doesn't block them so it's not as charming for me as it is with the majority of people(based on what I read)
- shalinshaun, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1No. They use it for sharing digg stories. :)
- cjlesiw, on 07/30/2009, -0/+1#*****
- dinglebutt, on 07/09/2009, -10/+11***** Twitter
- scottuss, on 07/10/2009, -1/+2In Soviet Russia, Twitter ***** you
- ATrueRoman, on 07/10/2009, -1/+1twitter help's people earn money out of it.
- lex0nyc, on 07/10/2009, -2/+2Because it is a very popular site and a lot of people are talking about it?
- xino, on 07/10/2009, -1/+1That was so funny, it brought tears to my eyes.
- waydee, on 07/10/2009, -1/+1Because this is the state of the internet these days, the doors should have been closed years ago. Twitter is the ugly face of a grim future I'm afraid, I hope you had some fun while it lasted.
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 07/10/2009, -3/+3Ads? What are these ads you speak of?
- scottuss, on 07/10/2009, -1/+0+1. Only problem is, Firefox is free software. However, I guess it wont be long until these ads start turning from "Twitter recommends Firefox" to "Twitter recommends new Shiizzle Shampoo for shine that lasts!"
- lex0nyc, on 07/10/2009, -3/+2Who uses the stock AIM desktop client?
- inactive, on 07/10/2009, -2/+1Much longer than 10 years, robb!
- dawesdust12, on 07/10/2009, -3/+2What if Firefox sucks and we'd prefer to use a Webkit based browser (AKA Something better)?
- robbh66, on 07/10/2009, -3/+1You do realize that the AIM desktop client has had ads appearing in it for the last 10 years, right?
- wukillabee, on 07/09/2009, -5/+3LOL ads
- vicentesanchez, on 07/10/2009, -3/+1can you say....bing advertising again here...they already are on hulu...
- jjustin01, on 07/10/2009, -5/+2HOLY ***** *****!!!
AN AD ON A WEBSITE?!
NO WAY! - enantiodromia, on 07/09/2009, -6/+3exactly. that's why when people spew numbers like "80% of people never return to twitter.com!!!" i laugh at their ignorance.
how many people return to AIM.com once they sign-up and download the client? -
