- elmetald00d, on 04/08/2009, -0/+18GMail gets better and better everyday
- Thomaschaaf, on 04/08/2009, -0/+17Thats coming in 3.0 :)
- jordanlgta, on 04/08/2009, -0/+12Who uses the Safari browser on an iPhone to check Gmail though? You can route your Gmail straight into the iPhone's Mail app for much easier use.
- eliburford, on 04/08/2009, -1/+12Just had a quick look. Looks really good, as do most of Google's products.
- cyrusuncc, on 04/08/2009, -0/+7Wonder if they are going to also update the native Android gmail client... would make sense if they did
- ryanonfire, on 04/08/2009, -0/+5I know it's like they actually listen to the user. Unlike some companies :|
- VeritasAequitas, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4I thought this change affects the iPhone and Android platforms. Also when android came out they dumbed down the iPhone interface. Was that to help android or hurt iPhone? There had been a really nice one for google home, then suddenly it got crappier to accomodate everyone else that didn't have an iPhone.
I can see what you're saying about native android apps though. - freshyill, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4Who cares? There's plenty of room for all the players in the mobile market, and Google knows that it makes sense to support the iPhone.
- samgab, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3All good, but I usually just use the built in iPhone email client with IMAP. Why do I need to use the browser?
- shuffer, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3That's why I can never understand everybody insisting that iPhone should be 'open'. Disregarding the fact that Android is not really 'open' at all, what happens when you rely on other manufacturers to distribute your platform? Microsoft will pay them to develop WM handsets instead! At the recent show in Barcelona there were a handful of forthcoming Android phones and a plethora of WM.
So we now have the bizarre situation of Google supporting the iPhone as much, if not more than its own platform since launch. - alpha19, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3Oh sweet. I didn't know you can look at your google docs!
- nihalz, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3probably..but where's my Push?
- tierneyb, on 04/08/2009, -7/+10Now apple just needs to make the proprietary email better. Can't believe it's been two years and you still can't type an email in landscape.
- jordanlgta, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2*Gmail
- TimmyGUNZ, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2I could be mistaken here, but I thought the whole point of Google releasing android was to help create an open mobile platform and really open up the floodgates of creativity that have been stifled due to clueless handset manufactures who look at software secondary to hardware. I don't think Google really had planned on or cares about trying to top the iPhone now. They simply wanted to push the technology as a whole forward.
- HeyArnold, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2ugh, you're missing the point...
Why even bother releasing android? If there doesn't seem to be much 1st party support, what makes you think there's going to be sufficent effort by other devs to make android a contender? - Trifold, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2Hmm, this definitely seems geared toward iphone users, and figured they had to port it to Android as well. The native Android Gmail client is already pretty great, and it seems odd they'd integrate features (just the floaty bar, really) into the browser client and not the native app that kind of forces android users to choose how they get mail.
In other words, please update my native gmail app Google. Thanks! - HeyArnold, on 04/08/2009, -2/+4its official: android is the "red headed stepchild" of Google. They've done more for the iPhone since the G1 has been out than for android. How many G1 users are checking their Gmail using the website?? "there's an app for that..."
- jameswedge, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Don't want to look at my mail on the web app, want it on the native iphone app. WITH PUSH, please!
- hollismb, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2I use Nuevasync for synching my Google Calendar (and contacts), which works a lot better. Hopefully I'll be able to cut out the middle-man when the 3.0 OS ships though.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2And, they are supporting the Kerberos engine used in Safari rather than going with the one used by their web browsers.
- blogger123, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2The best bit is that it works for google apps as well. Don't forget apps users are still waiting for themes and were waiting for lab features for a good while after regular users got it. For some reason Google doesn't usually do stuff for both at the same time.
- nepidae, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2smtp
- VitriolAndAngst, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2Google is more a company about selling ads.
I think the G1 is about keeping that access open. If it is successful -- they won't stand in its way. But it is really there to keep others honest.
If the big players -- and by now that is more and more meaning Apple, don't let google put their maps, search and other "shopping windows" on the phones, then the G1 will get a lot more love from Google. - mdude85, on 04/08/2009, -1/+2Hi! I'm a Blackberry and 50 million of my Blackberry friends would love an update to the GMail and Google Calendar client if possible. Thanks for keeping us in mind!!
- Zippo, on 04/08/2009, -1/+2Google: doing things right.
- mdude85, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1The screen transitions more than make up for it, though... :-/
- nepidae, on 04/08/2009, -1/+2racist
- NovaPrime9, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1I have it. They may be rolling in a staggered fashion.
- jordanlgta, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1The guy is right. The faster that we as a society start calling things what they are actually called...and the faster we start following things such as traffic laws and eating right and such...the faster we become a great society. I know you're thinking "what the ***** are you talking about?" but don't think that...tell me when I should bring up this idea of a great society. Do I really have to do it in more than these words? Are you requiring of a lot of sentences before you take an idea as credible? I bet you're that guy that always passes my car (because me going 5-10 over the speed limit isn't enough for you) to get to his/her destination 2 seconds faster than if you had just stayed behind me.
- samgab, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1Dugg up for random rant.
Our society will become great if we stop speeding and use the term "iPod touch". - teenooo1, on 12/06/2009, -0/+0http://club-hi5.exteen.com/
http://club-hi5.exteen.com/20091206/entry-3 - jordanlgta, on 04/08/2009, -2/+2That's called a promise.
- cyrusuncc, on 04/08/2009, -2/+2@johnypcguru
Dugg down for the sake of digging down. Life is unfair - johnypcguru, on 04/08/2009, -3/+3Dugg down for asinine comment. Who cares..?
- ohreilly, on 04/08/2009, -6/+4Dugg down for "itouch".
It isn't called that and it's irritating when people refer to it at such. - nathanielsametz, on 04/08/2009, -5/+0The floaty bar is not on my itouch?! GRRR

What is Digg?
