- rauz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think the most fun thing is digg nerds reacting like Hitler was making a comeback when people submit news about GMail, Apple and such. I will digg it just to annoy you suckers.
- qwerty967, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's not spoofing because the sender is still identified as Gmail.com.
- coding, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9This is like someone noticing like 15 lines of code change but because it's google it becomes huge news.
- ralphmalph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2so sick of all the bitches on this site. bitch, bitch, dupe, not news, bitch, bitch, bitch some more... look all you whiny f**ks, the blog post linked is from yesterday. many of us (myself included) were unaware of the feature and appreciate its being brought to our attention. go whine to your mommy that your milk is old and has gotten cold... it explains your personalities. Thanks to Gootch for the post +digg and welcome to the front page club.
- superdog87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great! I love a company that keeps there programs active! Thats what the users want. At least I do. It's like everyday google does this google does that. If Microsoft and Yahoo would build/update there stuff as fast as google they could make some cool stuff. Just think google has like 50% less employes and makes better stuff faster. Who'da thunk it.
- digid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been using fastmail.fm for 3 years and this has always been a feature. It's a pay email service but they have always been number one in my eyes.
- jaydee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2what is it with you ***** haters?
If you don't think its news then ***** off and read something else.
Simple as!! - Jaydude765, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Its good for those of us who bounce mail from other servers to our gmail's. I remember submitting this as a feature request a few months ago, must have been more than me that kept getting it wrong when replying. I don't think this is quite a new feature though, just an extra option.
Oh and also its not spoofing as gmail makes you validate the email address you add to gmail before you can send as that address. - barium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Coming soon: Digg will become Google's changelog, acting as an advertising portal for each and every new feature that Google comes up with. No feature - however small and insignificant - will be overlooked.
Update: It looks like this functionality has already been fully implemented. - filosofo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But Gmail still lists your Gmail account in the email's "Sender" and "Return-Path" fields, which defeats the purpose: I don't want everyone knowing my private Gmail address.
- Xsecrets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have to say this is a half hearted attempt at a fix. They desperately need multiple signatures which also need to automatically change depending on which address an email was sent to. And for that matter it would be very nice to be able to have the signature at the top of the reply. I use the multiple signatures greasemonkey script to fix the first problem, but it does not work with the script that fixes the second problem. If someone off the net can write the multiple signatures script seems like google with all their talent could do the same.
- bendalton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This feature is nice EXCEPT for the fact that they don't recognize a primary use of another one of their features, the + addressing. I use + addresses on sites where I don't necessarily trust for them to not sell my contact info OR in cases where I want to simply recognize the soure of the email. I have set up hundreds of these email addresses and do NOT want to manually add each of these as a valid from address. Google KNOWS I can receieve email to that address, so why make it so tedious?
- hasbeen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This site is becoming more and more like a bitch-fest about what should or should not be on the frontpage. If you don't like it, don't DIGG it, it's as simple as that. Not everything can be breaking news. I for one am using multiple accounts in gmail, and this was a nice little reminder. While it's far from perfect, since it doesn't reply with the correct address if you were part of a compiled list that the email was sent to, it's a small step in the right direction.
- chachi_arcola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0goony goo hoo
- mocha24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is old news. I'm sorry I Dugg it.
- sundown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just went to activate it and it's greyed out... Won't let me select it. Anyone else having that problem?
- TKDWILSON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0""""It's not spoofing because the sender is still identified as Gmail.com.""""""
I wish it would let you spoof your other account you already confirmed. I want people to think I am using my work server and send their replies there .
Eric Wilson - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They just noticed this..
- ShahabJafri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0But you still cant send as different From: address if you are using an email client .. :| ..
- GrahamStw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> "witch other email service hase a feature like this? NONE."
FastMail does, as stated in the post above yours. - DrumsNWhistles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At last. And to all of you who are saying, "gee, this is stupid that it's even causing a little tiny buzz", you're right, it is. But my gmail account receives email sent to five separate email addresses and I use my maiden name professionally and my married name for everything else. It drives me nuts when I forget to change the "from" address and send something for work under my married name...and it confuses my clients, so I'm really glad to see this feature implemented!
- wolfzero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I actually use this! Sweet!
- mikae1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I noticed that yesterday. It was actually #2 in my text file with a list of things that Gmail should really have.
- ting, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This deserves my digg!!
- Cybersqu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0God, i've been waiting for this for a long long time.. I always forget to change the from domain!
Thx! +digg :) - celeb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Perfect!!!!!!!1
- cortfr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yahoo! has been doing this for years.
- josuemedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@Declin: sorry to burst your bubble, but anyone with some programming knowledge can make a simply email sender app, such in a way to manipulate the Sender and Return-Path to look like its originally from "support@gmail.com". I've tested the above and noticed that Gmail validated my fake emails from both support@gmail.com and support@google.com - never reached my spam folder.
- zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"This is like someone noticing like 15 lines of code change but because it's google it becomes huge news." posted by coding
you know that was about the length of code it took to make the decss engine work... - mutejute, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sundown, you need to add at least 1 email address for it to be enabled.
- tsunamisteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well those of us that have been using Apple's mail client (and probably all the other clients) have been using this with all mail accounts (including gmail since its beginning). google is SO awesome....
- gooru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now, they just need to add the ability to have multiple signatures. Very annoying.
- ColdChilli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Doesn't work
If I have an email address which is digg+comments@gmail.com when I reply its get changed to digg@gmail.com. - gmikej, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg to get back at the people that waste their time saying "this is stupid." And because I actually find this useful.
Great- now I just wasted my time responding to people that waste their time.
GET BACK TO WORK PEOPLE... - unixgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, what a break through!
Google is great, but come on.....
NO DIGG - FocusLeft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not every new thing Google rolls out has to be revolutionary. The fact is, this is a feature that is useful. Yeah, it's simple. So what?
+digg - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0About time. I've been using gmail with my other addresses for a while, and having to remember to change the from address is quite annoying.
- illinst1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0imjosh -
gmails been down all morning for me. - imjosh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Gmail down for anyone else?
- echocharlie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It doesn't seem to work for me. I still have to manually change the from address.
- mstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This made it to the front-page? I mean, does every minor little thing have to be such a major news evcent?
- saket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool feature!! ??
But, why it took so much time for Google to come up with this feature? It looks so intutive. I love to see Google playing catch-up game here.
- Saket. - MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yea, I noticed this a week or so ago. Nothing new for me.
- ezrie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This still doesn't solve the problem of sending email from gmail with a different from address. When receiving, Outlook and Outlook Express (90% of the world) still display "xxxx@gmail.com on behalf of xxxx@domain.com"
- karn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been using this feature for months, very old. I'm amazed someone now just noticed it
- holdemcharts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh, that is so awesome. That is one thing I always hated. Digg+++
- b04155, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd call it about time replying. As soon as they implemented multiple addresses, I wondered (frustratingly) why this feature wasn't implemented at the same time.
- ralphmalph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@echocharlie - it's in the settings. by default this is turned off. look more closely at the blog post to see the screens.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@kartbart, sorry to spoil your party, but outlook express isn't a web email client. A better comparison would be hotmail vs gmail. Gmail owns hotmail.
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thunderbird needs to support this feature somehow.
