- mwales, on 10/12/2007, -43/+765I have a complaint/annoyance. How hard would it be to structure the page so that it uses up the browser window. Right now, the page is coded for a very specific browser window size. Anything bigger, you get big empty side bars, anything less, you have to use the horizontal scroll bar. Slashdot (for example, not trolling) always fills up the browser window. I'm only browsing with a 19" LCD, I'm sure its even more of a problem/waste for folks with the newer widescreen LCDs.
- Angostura, on 10/27/2007, -24/+407... that you still can't comment to comments. Pathetic.
Luckily, no-one can disagree with me directly - kevinrose, on 10/12/2007, -9/+209Adding more servers now... crazy demand. Hope to have these load issues fixed in 30 or so mins.
- Machine, on 10/12/2007, -11/+179The Bad:
1. The user image is so... really really tiny... at least on my Mac.
2. I wish you could reply directly to comments.
3. I wish you could see what the hell you're replying to... instead of being flung to the bottom of the page.
4. More ads... yay... because I don't see enough ads every day in my life.
5. Would it kill ya to add a little bit of color to this site? Web 2.0 is so sterile... I'm not saying make it look like Windows XP... but I feel like I'm in a very expensive post-modernist Manhattan loft where you can't sit on the furniture.
The Good
1. I like the layout... looks clean and tight.
2. I like the expanded topics... now the Digg Tech News Nazis won't have anything to bitch about. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+135Havent fixed the comment bug yet. Click repeatedly on my green thumbs up button to the left. Click real fast and see how many thumbs up you can give it at one go. Cmon guys i really thought youd fix this!
Otherwise smashing good job. - pile0nades, on 10/12/2007, -13/+124Wikipedia has an article about Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia - dustko, on 10/12/2007, -12/+85So we can discuss the overhaul of the site we use every day?
- somerandomnerd, on 10/12/2007, -14/+74"People don't want to read lines two/three times as long because some retard makes his page 100% fluid!"
Likewise, people don't want to scroll sideways just because the page designer assumes that they want to maximise their browser window. - kbeeveer46, on 10/12/2007, -15/+64I liked the bar on the right and not the left :(
- 2create, on 10/12/2007, -11/+59Seems like digg is getting the digg effect anyone else getting error pages?
- jayadelson, on 10/12/2007, -6/+50We're busy adding machines, resources, etc. Expect to see some lag and other "oops" screens while we catch up with the rapid increase of traffic from our normal "technology-only" world of 2.0.
- pinsomniac, on 10/12/2007, -9/+51I don't know, guys. I feel underwhelmed. I understand that the addition of the new categories are going to be a major shift for the site from being tech-oriented to focusing on news in general, but I have to agree with everyone so far. The fixed-width and the inability to reply to specific comments is disappointing.
While the streamlined interface should be more user-friendly, at least asthetically it appears cramped and busy, almost as if it's trying to do too many things at once. I like the style, but the execution could have been better. - jayadelson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+45We had machines set up and ready in case we had this sort of quick popularity.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34How the HELL did you get servers that fast? :O
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -24/+52Yeah, I agree. I thought fixed width was one of those things people did when they thought print and web were the same thing. :/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34Havent fixed the comment bug yet. Click repeatedly on my green thumbs up button to the left. Click real fast and see how many thumbs up you can give it at one go. Cmon guys i really thought youd fix this!
Otherwise smashing good job. - tryferos, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29You gotta be kidding me? Content squished between adds and a menu? Sorry, but you can add all the features in the world but when you squish too much crap on a page, its a mistake.
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -11/+33"I'm sure its even more of a problem/waste for folks with the newer widescreen LCDs."
Haha, tell me about it :) Sitting on a 24" Widescreen here.
It's basically 40% white, 20% content, 40% white.
On the other hand, readability-wise, it's not good with *too* much used space either in case it leads to extremely horizontally long paragraphs. They eye use to like shorter lines to follow new lines better. But I'd rather see it make use of the horizontal space and let the user resize the browser window if it'd be like this though. Flexibility and user choice > fixed sizes. - danglerman, on 10/12/2007, -12/+34crazy slow....not retaining my diggs, im not so sure about this big font cheap interface.
- RedGiant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Question: Is there a way to make the 'View All' the default when going to digg.com under your account?
- prag, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23The fixed size window is too wide. I liked the old Digg better
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+28hey, what happened to the resizeing text feature? i like small text...
- Paladin27, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Seriously. I know my laptop with 1024x768 isn't that high of a resolution, but I have to scroll right on this entire site! Ugh. I don't want to have to maximize Firefox just to read the news. There's a reason CSS supports freeflowing column designs, please USE THEM! I hate sites that ASSUME everyone is running 600 pixels wide and leave tons of dead space on the right, or sites who assume everyone must be a graphic artist and running 2000 pixel wide 24" LCDs. HORIZONTAL SCROLLING SUCKS!
- Bogtha, on 10/12/2007, -10/+27> How hard would it be to structure the page so that it uses up the browser window.
Not only is it not hard, but it's actually the default state of things. Websites automatically flow to the width of your window unless the designer has deliberately stopped it from doing so. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Lose the ADs. Not all of them but at least some. Its rather annoying and more cluttered than it should be.
- caffeinelover, on 10/12/2007, -10/+27Lots of duplicate comments here...
Sorry, couldn't resist - rageguy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19How on earth do you make it default to "View all" when you visit Digg.com?
Also is it just me, or is Digg lagging just a tad? - NoahK, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20Maybe Kevin and co. can add an option to have the bar on the right vs. on the left?
- recycle, on 10/12/2007, -16/+31man, this site is really slow right now, and the comment box font is small (the one where you type)
- Leo55, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19Anyone feel that the new interface is pretty ad-dy..?
- blackmath, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Can we have a sports category?
- misterpony, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Old news. V2 you could too.
- tryferos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Sorry Kevin...but as you can see by the submitted comments, time to start working on Digg 3.1
- munkt0n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15hurrah! it seems to be twice as slow as it used to be...
- Durinthal, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I still want nested replies to comments.
- armbar, on 10/12/2007, -10/+23Yes, you're one of the first to be last in line. Digg's been up since 2004, buddy.
- Pluckie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18Agreed. I thought it was cleaner with the bar on the right. Now it seems sort of cluttered....
- deut, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Due to the inclusion of a 3-column view in the comment view, the width of the actual comment field is now much smaller. This makes the page very long and tedious to read. Can't we at least lose one of the sidebars when in comment view ?
I like more or less everything on the new Digg 3.0 except this.
KEVEN IF YOU READ THIS, PLEASE MAKE THE COMMENTS ***WIDER*** - Thanks - paleck, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Im not really digging the new Digg v3 look.
- tintub, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Yep I would prefer the bar back on the right too... I looked for a setting but can't find one. Still no inline replying either, doesn't seem right to have it at the bottom of the screen when I am replying to a post near the top.
- Angostura, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Sweet Jesus on a pogostick - you still can't do properly threaded comments-to-comments.
How hard is that?
Site design marked as 'lame' - Carbito, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18How come Technology is the default category, wouldn't it make more sense to have View All as the default?
- echo1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13i feel ass backwards without the stories flush to the left though, not a huge deal but getting used to it.
can't wait until it's been hammered out so that there's no more error pages, it seems fraught with bad links right now. - munkt0n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13...um, where are my comments going?
- Ericular, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Why the hell did anybody digg this? The link goes to a page of ads.
- UnnamedSource, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I keep having to scroll my browser window to the right to see everything. Thought we were passed such poorly constructed websites.
- heavyPixel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Actually, it's just a visual bug. I tried the clickfraud technique you described above and it seemed to work, but then I refreshed the page. Back to only +1 digg.
Looks like it's not screwing the database. - Arve, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15I'm probably going to have my account revoked over this, but I buried this story as lame.
* It's slower to load than ever - even if I'm seeing fairly normal download speeds.
* When pages have finally loaded, they're slower to use. Animations are slower than ever
* The comment system still has no threading. Neither does it have proper options for quoting. For some reason, the lack of adequate discussion facilities leads to dumb comments.
* I thought the focus of the site was broadening? It's still serving me "Technology".
* The text in the field I am now typing stuff into is about 2.33px.
* The new left-hand sidebar is incredibly annoying when browsing with a mobile browser.
* The new ad format is downright annoying. If it wasn't for the fact that I'll probably be leaving digg for greener pastures, I would probably have blocked them.
Goodbye digg. - TheBrady, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10In Opera 9 it is nearly impossible to bury a story.... when you select the drop down box it goes crazy

Bar tender says, "I told you yesterday and the day

I'll nail your beak shut!" Duck walks out.
