New Digg Widgets and an Update to Digg Labs
blog.digg.com — A lot of people have been asking us to make it simpler to add Digg content to their sites while giving them lots of options for customization. Today we released Digg Widgets, built off of our API, which provides much more control than the current Add Digg functionality. It ’s a great example of what you can build from the API but we saved you the wo
- 1047 diggs
- digg it
- tamar, on 10/10/2007, -13/+10hmph.
- wtfersk8s, on 10/10/2007, -1/+74Next things to do
1. Add Pic Section
2. Make homepage index between all the sections
3. Fix the stupid boxing around comments, looks stupid
4. im all out, Nice site- tamar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+30No, the next thing to do is to fix the duplicates. By linking to a duplicate story on the Digg front page, they are simply condoning what their system is trying to prevent. It makes no sense.
- antdude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+37Fix the search!
- JCSaint, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Tamar,
I totally agree especially when the same article shows up over the course of a few days time. I don't have a problem with a popular story showing up every couple of months though for new members that might not have seen it before. You need at least a three month minimum though, I think. - omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It used to be about 3 months, then it became a week, then a day, then 3 at the same time.
- Anrkist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Oops! Digg down, I was trying to reply to dj50s comment.

- n8dawg87, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Did anyone else notice the new digg Arc UI being showcased around in banner adds on digg for digg labs for the past few weeks? I think they also showed an updated swarm view.
- birkoph, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2Wow See the same crap stories in whole new way.
Get some "real" news first.- wattznext, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Then go somewhere else, ass
- birkoph, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i did.. back to slashdot and my local news websites.
- michaelschade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Obviously not since you continue to waste precious bandwidth and storage space posting here.
- birkoph, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i did.. back to slashdot and my local news websites.
- Verdanic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm sure they'll code some 'real news' for the next update.
It's user run. See the issue now?

http://digg.com/tech_news/New_Digg_Widgets_and_an_Update_to_Digg_Labs- sepultura, on 10/10/2007, -12/+4lol i got it too http://digg.com/software/New_Digg_Widgets_and_an_Update_to_Digg_Labs_2, we all submitted it in like 1 second
- dougbarrett, on 10/10/2007, -15/+3This might be the greatest update to digg that we've had in awhile.
- HA5TY, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8......why? unless u have a blog/website its not THAT good. I'm not saying I'm not happy with it, but the greatest??
- HA5TY, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The Greatest update in a "While" was a few months back.. when they added the Top 10 section
- AngelaQ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Not much use in my blog. It doesn't fit in my sidebar like my Feedburner widgets do. Their dimensions are customizable.
- HA5TY, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8......why? unless u have a blog/website its not THAT good. I'm not saying I'm not happy with it, but the greatest??
- DietMountainDew, on 10/10/2007, -7/+29Cool addons, I've also noticed some bug fixes in the comment system, specifically the "Show Reply" bug when sorting by diggs.
Thanks for listening to your users.- lordtyros, on 10/10/2007, -6/+22Yeah, if they listened to their users, we wouldn't still have this comment system. And there would have been a picture section about 8 months ago.
- HA5TY, on 10/10/2007, -9/+6I'm actually kinda like this comment system more!...it grows on you!
- Ulisses, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12It kinda doesn't...
- titlesaysitall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Yeah it grows painfully and rapes your eye sockets and Medula Oblangata.
- Nutmegan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Really? How do we get it to stop growing on us?
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1They're not changing it back. Stop bitching.
- Otto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3There's no need to change it back. They could just FIX THE DAMN THING. You use it for 5 minutes and you can see all the flaws, very clearly. Even if you ignore the ugly factor, the thing simply DOESN'T ***** WORK RIGHT.
This is not complicated.

- TubbyCat, on 10/10/2007, -12/+3Kevin & Alex be ready to talk about this on this weeks Diggnation, I'm sure it will make it.
- woojoo, on 10/10/2007, -5/+62...STILL no pic section?
- sldSquirrel, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14Does anybody actually check the other sections?
There's a reason the video section attracts significantly less diggs than the main page. A picture section would be ignored by half of digg's audience anyway.- anaesthetica, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7A good point, but a better solution would be to publicize what's going on on the alternate pages. Perhaps the Top Ten in Video should also find its way onto the front page sidebar. Later, a Top Ten in Pics could also be added. This way people checking the front page would know what was going on in the other sections (more or less) without having to explicitly check them. Probably drive more traffic to those parts as well.
A second reason is that video requires a greater amount of investment to view and rate than short news items or articles. It's also more inconvenient to view, because of sound issues and the wear on your processor if you're multitasking. These are really the reasons a separate section for video content was created in the first place.- Yuo122986, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah really! I wish there was a main that had all topics and you didn't have to be forced into either news, videos, or podcasts, can't we just have an everything category?

- travislopes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30Anyone else notice the right column on the front page being more "cleaner." It seems to be a little less bulky.
- poohat1000, on 10/10/2007, -6/+10meh
- gmprunner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Is the "Add Friends" button on the kinda upper-right new too? Or do I just not pay attention?
- xpose, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8This widget reminds me very much of what last.fm has had for awhile. Also one user said this was a "significant update" lol. Please.
- DesolataX, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Awesome update! The Top 10 need to have a background thought, looks so weird without it.
- afruff23, on 10/10/2007, -12/+8I like the old "Top 10" better. If you agree, digg me up. If you disagree, bury me.
- HA5TY, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Theres no difference, besides lines going between each story.
- gamerzworld, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Can we please get rid of that annoying "Show xx - xxx of xxx discussions"? At least have an option to turn it off!
- HA5TY, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1SOOOO anoying. I agre 110%!!!
- HA5TY, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12How can they add all this stuff, but won't add a Pictures section......is it THAT hard?!!
I wouldn't be mad if they replaced the Podcast section with Pictures!!!- rcran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8The podcast section is the most useless part of digg. Ever been there when diggnation wasn't the most popular?
- briankeith, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If they add a picture section, people will still submit pictures the same way they do now; Only then people will spend more time and space making comments like "WRONG SECTION". Everyone knows the vast majority of digg is what's on the front page, as far as most visitors are concerned.
- gushgear, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Anyone try the widget in Myspace? Not sure if myspace supports script tags
- lordtyros, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Myspace supports whatever the ***** you want. I'm pretty sure you could embed an .exe in your myspace page if you really felt like it.
- tnatharik, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I'm new to wordpress. Any help on how to add the widget?
- OBKenobi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I don't use wordpress, but all you have to do is paste the code as HTML content somewhere. Either in your site's template, or as a module or static info, whatever wordpress uses.
- SeaMowse, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Cool. I'd love to see this as a Dashboard Widget for my iMac. I'm not a computer geet - maybe they can post it on Digg Labs.
- anaesthetica, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2When Leopard comes out, you'll be able to just make a WebClip Dashboard Widget out of it using Safari 3. See here:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/features/dashboard.html- SeaMowse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Thanks! Crap... I wish I didn't have to wait. :-/

- tnatharik, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Can we customize the theme of the site yet, i want to be on the dark side.
- sonictonic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Can someone be nice and help me figure out how to post one of these on my Virb.com page? I can't seem to get it working! :(
- leapingfrog, on 10/10/2007, -7/+5Am I the only one that thinks Digg's design sucks? Digg has a great designer, yet the design is ugly. I really dislike the 2d, green and blue header / navigation. In my opinion, Digg's design has gone downhill since the initial launch of V3:
http://www.mashable.com/images/digglaunchshot.png - hostingweb, on 10/10/2007, -8/+0Just added it here - http://www.hostingcoupons.org/ - to test it
- uptown, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Cool. I dugg you down just to make sure that still worked too...
- GreedKills, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Fix the disappearing comments.
Even if I set "sort by date (show all diggs)" and expand full tree, firefox crashes everytime - rd3k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1On the widget with custom colours, how do I change the colour of the text at the top which says things like "Stories dug by RD3k" and "Top 10 blah blah"?
- bloominoctober, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Sweet! A new widget for my (non-existant) iPhone!
- venson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2For section B. would be great to include 'and' & 'not' in addition to 'or'.
- Verdanic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The comment digging system is much smoother now. It sort of slides out to the right and back in again. It's not lagging as much anymore.
- synide, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1no myspace doesnt support myspace version please.
- iamdexter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's cool idea. I like new digg widget.
http://www.clarksshoes.us/ - daddydesign, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Is there such thing as a widget or something like it that someone can update the news/text in a website account and it would update in the flash file/widget. Almost like this custom music players people use for myspace..
