- Leonaken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sounds like the British look to make long stays on board much more bearable for the crew. Not only is the thing equipped with some hi-tech hardware, but it's also more comfortable for the men and women serving time on the ship. And at last, a place to be alone and masturbate.

not unless god made it my friend, not unless god made it - Linuxrocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ok - so it has charging ports - that's not iPod supprot - it's a socket
This is digg.com which means everything revolves around Apple even when it doesnt. - gol706, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"And at last, a place to be alone and masturbate."
I can here it now, "Our uplink to central command is down, it appears 100% of our bandwidth is being saturated by porn and downloading MP3's for those iPods!" - alski707, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah but lets face it, if you were on that ship, what would be more amuseing?, listing to your ipod or "...trace and destroy hostile objects as small a cricket ball travelling at three times the speed of sound...over a radius of several hundred miles."
at last, a way to kill Chuck Norris. - Rosewood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Did someone forget to tell the BRN that this is a warship? As in you buy it because at some point the people hanging out in the hotel facilities surfing the net and listening to beck will be manning the big ***** guns and killing people? I'm not sure that makes a whole lot of sense.
- ditchnz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So does this mean the MPAA/RIAA/BPI w*nkers will be scouring the decks of the UK warships searching for people with 'Illegal" music files to sue????? Somehow I think not
- MonkeyFit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So this entire warship will be rendered obsolete in a year when apple releases a new generation of ipod with a different form factor. At least, the way the article makes it sound, the charging ports are specifically for iPod (I realize they are probably just regular electrical sockets).
- Flipino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Took the record away from BMW for "most expensive ipod accessory"
- tokyopimp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0iPod support... that gets a big WTF from me!
So it comes with a power supply wall charger? - Arkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0.....HA HA HA! an ipod compatible war ship, what ever next
- 9teen7ty9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no "iPod's" ... just "I-Pods"
- GreenStop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so basically they have a PC in there with all of its sockets...
- Lite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I-pod charging points"....a usb port?
- bchang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My grandfather was in the British Royal Navy boy i wonder what he would of thought about this.
- pillfred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ nrbelex
"Mess decks are replaced by individual cabins, each with their own I-pod charging points, CD player, internet access, five channel recreational audio and larger berths."
still lame - Arkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"The second and third ships in the six-ship order - HMS Dauntless, Diamond, Defender, Dragon and Duncan - are already being built." ...DRAGON! sweet, id love to be able to say i serve on the dragon lol
- magebomb11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"our"?
I'm British, you insensitive clod! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is really getting out of hand almost a apple site anymore digg is dying, blogs, spam, non tech and apple with quicktime makes digg a bad site!
yeah no digg! - magebomb11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0im really sick of minijack input lines being called "ipod jacks" or whatever.
lame-ass.
and wtf is this? are power outlets in walls now called ipod charging stations?
you should see this thing i bought.
its an ipod-charging-station strip, and it protects from powersurges...and..you can plug anything into it. - RHamel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You mean they're not out sourcing their navy to India. I'm shocked!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0awesome, this 1 ship has more firepower that all our Type42 frigated combined :)
- B0jangles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This truly is a magnificent craft. I would of thought the advance technology included in the targeting systems would be interesting than a charging socket for a Scratch-pod.
Seeing how things are going with the E.U it is possible that Britain will be fighting Europe again. Perhaps that's why they're using Napoleonic prefixes to name some of their new upgrades such as the Trafalgar-Class Submarine.
World War III is coming. Lock up your ration books. - overfl0w, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Um...what exactly are they planning on shooting down with their über cool system capable of taking down a cricket ball, exactly? Last I heard the terrorists were using tents and trucks (and doing pretty well, I might add). The Chinese air force, maybe? Hey, but those i-Pod chargers, way cool! Obsolete ship? Nah.
- agentgonzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0froOty, Type42 is a destroyer, not a Frigate.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Back in my day we were lucky to get one telegram a year. Never mind all this fancy spancy eyepops and glowing things that speak at you!!
- Yoda716, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That would cost $1,000,000,075.75 with todays exchange rate!
- *Ica*, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Typical Brits - trying to fool themselves into thinking they are still important and a military force. Totally pathetic."
I'll tell you what is typical, that someone just HAS to have a rant about 'the British" in every single story about anything from the UK..... sad.
I cant think of many more countries with a more powerful army/navy. Thats how we can help you guys in Iraq, idiot. - dragonmortal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and they will be equipped with every Harry Potter book
- BritOverseas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Although the article states that it will be the most powerful warship in history, I can't help but think that some of the nuclear powered carriers and submarines of the United States would be considered at least as powerful".
Nobody is trying to say that the US is not all omnipotent....
It didn't say of ANY type, I believe it meant just of this type. Of course one of the Nimitz class AC's would be more powerful but it is a subjective issue. Basically if this things weapons systems work as advertised it can pretty much shoot down anything that is thrown at it.
And for all of you people that whine about this, just try spending 6 months at sea, in tiny bunks, with no privacy and in a very noisy environment. I know which sailor I would prefer to have next to me if something did happen. A rested, awake, on the ball one, rather than somebody who has had no sleep due to his crappy sleeping/living quarters, wake up.... - Zorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apple iDestroyer!!!! The rumour sites completely missed this one!
- KamikazeeDriver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"My grandfather was in the British Royal Navy boy i wonder what he would of thought about this."
He would probably ask when they starting bringing government regulated pussy on board, that would be the only entertainment most sailors would need. - Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just what our military needs!
- frem001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0now if they all had built in mac mini's that would be cool: photocasting, blogs, podcasts, photo editing, film editing...
- ShaunO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Curiously I haven't found a single article yet that explains what they mean by iPod charging. A powered USB jack? A regular 230vac wall socket?
"Perhaps that's why they're using Napoleonic prefixes to name some of their new upgrades such as the Trafalgar-Class Submarine."
Everywhere from naming computers in your bedroom, to warships in a navy, there's naming conventions. The americans name attack subs after cities and bombers after states .. the Royal Navy assign each class to a letter, and recycles names wherever possible. There's been a HMS Trafalgar since 1825, and the name gets put back into rotation when the previous ship leaves service. (And the current Trafalgar isn't a 'new upgrade' .. she's older than I am, and I'm plenty old enough to drink.)
So while I'd love to see France take a good old-fashioned drumming .. the names themselves aren't a new sentiment.
"Typical Brits - trying to fool themselves into thinking they are still important and a military force. Totally pathetic."
This military force is one of the only militaries standing side-by-side with the US. Trafalgar class subs fired missiles into Afghanistan when needed. Royal Navy, Royal Marines and the army are constantly involved in operations along the southern & coastal areas of Iraq. It amazes me that americans can't figure out why they have so many enemies, when this is how they treat their allies.
You should try talking to people in the US Navy and intelligence branches. You'll usually hear the british referred to as 'cousins'. It's widely acknowledged that what the Royal Navy lack in numbers, they make up in ability; enough that it's been known for US sub commanders to put themselves through the Royal Navy's "thresher" course because it holds a status and prestige that the US equivalent lacks. - PanicK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Typical Brits - trying to fool themselves into thinking they are still important and a military force. Totally pathetic."
People like you dont realise that the UK is the only 'real' country that supports the USA in its actions. - matt.rubin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'm gonna laugh at them in about 10 years when the iPod will be like a cassette player
- monkeymad2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That ship was made 100 miles from where i live, iPod support does rock though i'd hope it would be a universial dock with the remote....
- jasdev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When it meant the most powerful ship, it would have most specificly in its own context - the royal navy. A aegis class in the us navy is the bomb in warship tech(a decade plus tech), so much so that the chinese goverment are trying its best to workaround the us weapon sale ban to get it. Besides were not even talking about the many aircraft carriers in the us navy, each with its own battle group, able to wage war independently anywhere. not plugging the americans here but the worlds oldest standing navy has alot of catch up to play before they call the greatest in whatever. In retrospect, it is worth noting that even bigassed elephants are scared of rats. The question to ask is which corner would people get their quickies in a 'gender neutral' ship. aint no enterprise nop
- drphilngood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Although the article states that it will be the most powerful warship in history, I can't help but think that some of the nuclear powered carriers and submarines of the United States would be considered at least as powerful.
- CptnObvious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is completely stupid. +lame
The only reason this got to the front page is because it had the word iPod in it. - sapolion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just another luxury iPod accessory item I can't afford. Reminds me of the iPod your BMW campaign. Bush and Cheney will probably each want one now, to go with their iPods.
- drphilngood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I apologize if you thought I was trying to take anything away from the British navy. I was just curious about what new technology it possessed that would have them classify it as: "...,the most powerful warship in history. ;-)
- joemc72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So THIS was Steve Jobs' "One more thing..."
- adkinsjm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thinks it's cool. Sailors deserve a little down time after their watch. Can't all ipods except the shuffle charge through a dock connection?
- nrbelex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Ok - so it has charging ports - that's not iPod supprot - it's a socket
- drbroccoli, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Did someone forget to tell the BRN that this is a warship? Just because their job is killing people doesn't mean they don't like entertainment. If you were on a ship for 6 months with nothing to do, how would you feel? Idiot. - nrbelex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Ummm... I don't see anything about iPod support in this (and it's not funny). Does this deceptions sound "inaccurate" to me...? - Reported
- mkelly21, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Typical Brits - trying to fool themselves into thinking they are still important and a military force. Totally pathetic.
