Oh and this thing looks like a Porsche... but then again Audi is VW and VW is Porsche... right? - Rynoh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11such.. pretty.. cars... can't.. stop .. talking like... Shatner...
- jimio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9What Eurpean cars are ugly?
That's a joke considering American cars are ALL terrible and disgustingly ugly. I would never buy a US car. Except maybe an Opel/Vauxhall which is owned by GM but designed and built in Europe - theone3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7If they release the one with the polka dots I am soo there..
- centinall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5this would be even more tech relevant if they announced that it comes with a v12 twin turbo Diesel engine ;-) I know, I know, fat chance in hell.

- vertigoblue, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6which i don't think Porsche made...
- Kuipo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wish the link was to the source... not some stupid blog.
Source (with more and better pictures):
http://www.fourtitude.com/news/publish/Audi_News/article_2113.shtml - ForbesBingley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I've got an Audi S3 Quatrro, which is a 1800 cc turbo lump of metal that powers a 4x4 set up.
If you live in Yorkshire, England you'll spot me easily. I'm that guy with the big smile on his face... - pwrstick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41938, Porsche manufactures the first beetle:
http://www.porsche.com/international/aboutporsche/porschehistory/milestones/earlyyears/ - chewbaka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"fashionable white polka dots"
isn't this the definition of an oxymoron? - BobbyOnions, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5So why did you just do it? ;)
- ktalinu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3New photos at http://photos.byethost7.com/index.php?path=Cars/Audi%20R8/
- Quarks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought VW = Audi, Bentley, Skoda, Seat, Lamborghini, Bugatti
And Porsche is just Porsche.
See: http://blog.chaucery.com/images/carManufacturers.png - ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That one car has speedholes!!! Awesome. I bet it goes real fast.
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"polkadots" and "fashionable" don't belong in the same sentence.
- M@TT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks very nice and has a lot of potential. With prices expecting to start between £60,000 - £65,000 wonder if its good enough to take on Porsche?
- Iceduck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Check out this article on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen#Relationship_with_Porsche - mcc123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"Wow, ugly as only Europe can do ugly"
You are entitled to your own opinion no matter how wrong it might be. - p3lEr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2its a nice car.....but it looks like TTs on steroids...
- TheGalacticFork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks mighty nice, but it's got a mighty price tag.
- agarc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Keep in mind that this car is still in disguise. The front and rear lights have tape covering them. When the car is finally ready for production it will look a bit different. A great example of this is the Audi Q7 (see the photos of the test mule and the production vehicle at Fourtitude.com)... People complained about the rear lights when the test mule was spotted... I'm certain that many opinions changed once the production model came out because a lot of the lines were different, including the tail lights. It's a beautiful car, and the R8 will likely be a looker as well.
- Iceduck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not quite. Porsche is so good at making a profit that they were able to buy a large chunk of the much larger VW/VAG corporation. So there is a connection but they are still seperate entities.
- brownb2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anybody else notice this looks a little like the Audi in "I Robot"?
- cBennett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Engine displacement or cylinder count do not dictate what cars it can compete against. Just an example -
911 Turbo 3.6 liter flat 6 475ish hp
Ferrari F430's 4.2 liter V8 490hp
Lamborghini's Gallardo 5.0 liter V10 523hp
Audi's R8 is based on the Gallardo's aluminum space frame chassis which means it should not be too heavy (below 3,300lbs is my guess) and is supposed to use the RS4's 4.2 liter V8 producing 420hp. It is doubtful that the Gallardo/S8/S6 V10 will be used as this car is to be differentiated from the Gallardo. The V10 unit is also larger and heavier than the V8 unit. The Porsche 911 is also not a light car. It weighs over 3,100lbs which does not qualify it as light. A Lotus Elise weighs just about 2,000lbs. That is a light car. The R8 will compete with the 911. The 911 has no competitors and completely dominates the 80k sports car market. The more competition, the better. - diggtard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah it's a sweet car and I'm sure there is a lot of technology that went into it but I don't think it really qualifies as technology news. Otherwise we should just spam the front page with all new products as everything inevitably has some technology in it.
No Digg... not tech related. - ForbesBingley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The car is an Audi. It's a concept model that used for the film and made a big deal about at the time of the film...
- phbradley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the car rear, but Audi normally make cars with great fronts - not this time I fear. Perhaps it'll grow on me.
- Shinglor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Shameless self promotion, why not just link to http://www.fourtitude.com/news/publish/Audi_News/article_2113.shtml?
- Rickard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Link to some blog that links to the source == no digg
- hasbeen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My thoughts exactly. Not too fond of of the front either, but rear looks nice.
- Semitallsmalls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i looked at that car and fell inlove with it like i did to my girlfriend but she's not a car so u dont drive her please nice day you
- strictlybogart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think that "throw-back" shaped grill just doesnt work on a car with such a small front end. I think it looks cool on the 4 and the likes, but not this car. Look specifically at the dark green picture..
refering to: http://www.fourtitude.com/news/publish/Audi_News/article_2113.shtml? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So you're counting Aston Martins, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsches, Mercedes, BMWs....(I'll cut the list there, but you get the point) all as ugly?
Some good taste you've got there - GliTCH82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The car looked great till I saw the full front shot... that grill looks kind of ugly and the lights aren't very stylish in my opinion. Having said that, I have disliked other car designs in the past and found that they kind of grow on you like a ditzy brand name.
- McNamron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hell yes! That car is hot!
- sp4rky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1we need more diggs like this, good find.
- jscro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They're not going after the 911 is this catagory. This car will have a V8, and it won't be lightweight. I'm betting this is also a Laborghini Gallardo underneath, and it will probably have the Lambo V10 as an option, since both the Audi S6 and S8's are offering it as well.
Porsche's are lightweight 6 cylinder supercars. - YouKnowWho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Audi is part of the VW Group which consists of: Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, SEAT, Skoda, Volkswagen.
Porsche is in part of the group, but no fully due to the fact i believe that most shares of the company are still within the Porsche family. - malliemcg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ever since I rolled my S3 I have been looking for something worthy to replace it with, perhaps this is it.
I love my Audi's! - Illuminatus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Perhaps my next car. Great find!
- scrapstyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very pretty.
- ErikKrupper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0drool....starting to save $ right now
- viciousnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hmm i was very much under the impression that toyota owned volvo.. odd..
very pretty cars but i actually preferred the one w/o the LEDs.. god i love audis - xgraxe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jalopnik has rumors that it may be a diesel? that would make sense considering the effort they put into the R10...
http://www.jalopnik.com/cars/gossip/the-audi-r8-the-first-diesel-supercar-164618.php - AeroSquid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1looks like a 350z or G35
- andrew522, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*mouth starts to drool uncontrollably*
- MadFlyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Remember also that the Audi RS2 was badged as an Audi-Porsche (Audi made the basic car, Porsche did all the tuning and adjustments).
It's impressive to see how close she is from the Le Man, like the A5 is close to the Nuvolari Quattro. Barely any make up to hide the car...
But, total it will make 4 coupe (TT/A4 Convertible/A5/R8) maybe a little too much. And the R designation is for racing cars... Not the usual A/Q/S/RS. The R8 already exist, and the A8/S8 is their luxury top of the fleet... Confusing... - ThrasherC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Ditto on my A4 Quattro. Hell, I'd trade it in an an R4 if I could afford it.
- bluehouse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Now that's a car I'd trade my TT in for
