- yetdog, on 01/09/2008, -5/+188I just called and ripped NetSol a new one. Can't ICANN strip them of their registrar status for this?

- kcornwell, on 01/09/2008, -0/+129network solutions has always been a pain in the ass and expensive. *****.
- FaithclubDotNet, on 01/09/2008, -10/+106ICANN has Cheezburger?
- najdorf, on 01/09/2008, -0/+72Man, I'm always paranoid they're going to steal the domains for which I check availability... looks like I was right...
- koicho, on 01/09/2008, -5/+72All you have to do is start testing for bogus names so they "steal" them :)
Ideally automate a script that uses proxies so they "think" there is "interest" in domains such as xhg786asihd87q.com
LOL - mattottam, on 09/29/2009, -0/+66http://www.*****.com/
- implied, on 01/09/2008, -0/+55They are not really trying to sell the domains back to you, but they are trapping you into buying from NetSol if you search for the domain name. Very shady *****.

I stopped using them years ago. They haven't lowered their pricing in about 8 years - while everyone else around them sells domains for a FRACTION of the cost. If you don't boycott them for stealing domains, do it for the rediculous price at the very least!!!
- skyshock1, on 01/09/2008, -0/+40http://networksolutionsstolethisfromme.com/
- cadmiumpaint, on 01/09/2008, -1/+41So just spread the word, boycott them and put em out of business.....
- JulieBrownfield, on 01/09/2008, -1/+34I experienced this first hand. I had a domain for 2 years. It lapsed one day. I went into a redemption process which is NEVER a problem in the first 30 days. Now they tell me they have it.
- cmer, on 01/09/2008, -0/+33http://diggersagainstnetworksolutions.com
- assasinine, on 01/09/2008, -0/+32Doesn't matter. Registrars are able to rescind domains during a five-day grace period, I believe (or it used to be five days at one point). What they do is register millions of random domains and park them. If they don't generate profitable traffic in that time period, they are rescinded and they get their money back.

- jimjan, on 01/09/2008, -1/+31http://www.networksolutionssucksmynutz.com/
Checked it via direct address entry - "server not found"
Checked availability through NetSol - says available
Checked again via direct address entry. Strangely, it was now running through Network Solutions. Hmmm...coincidence?
I agree with the previous poster. Time to hammer then with a name generator script. See how long they keep that up. - mattvogt, on 01/09/2008, -0/+25At least he did something.
- spiralspirit, on 01/09/2008, -0/+25In general they tell you that you are late in payment, and ask you to repay.

- jer2eydevil88, on 01/09/2008, -0/+23http://eatmenetworksolutions.com/ - woops I searched for it and then 30 seconds later they owned it... how nice of them..
- Eillix, on 01/09/2008, -3/+25Is sarcasm really necessary? Who is the real a-hole here?
- SoundJudgment, on 01/09/2008, -3/+24They have only now STARTED the practice of stealing names??? Hey guys, welcome to 1997.
- stiggynet, on 01/09/2008, -0/+19DIGG: STOP using NETSOL ads all over your site! Don't support these guys.
- whiledo, on 03/25/2009, -0/+17That's utter *****. The same kind of response NSI always gives to their shady practices. Remember how they spun it the time they were returning their own IPs for any non-existent domain name lookup? They tried to spin that, too.
Here's what they said about this time:
"This protection measure provides our customers the opportunity to register domains they have previously searched without the fear that the name will be already taken through Front Running."
The problem is that when they register the domain for 5 days, that paints a giant target on your domain for these people so they can snatch it up at the end of the 5 days. If digg posters can figure this out, don't you think a company whose main business is domain registrations can?
This protection is basically like the kind of "protection" you get in the finer parts of New England. - Lankywood, on 01/09/2008, -0/+17This isn't just network solutions. I went through Doteasy to check a new domain out... http://www.turnergroup.com (a few years ago) and it was available (quite surprised it was). Not one day later and it's taken and being sold for $4450. Still to this day! Don't check with any company for domain availability, use InterNic.com to check. Hopefully they don't screw us too...
- rwmnau, on 01/09/2008, -0/+17Bob Parons refers to this as "Domain Kiting", and it turns out that they're not actually out the $10 for registering the domain:
http://www.bobparsons.com/Whyyoucantgetthedomainna ...
What happens is that they register a domain, put up a single page with ads on it, and then wait 5 days to see how many hits it gets. If it gets enough to pay for it (aka, you check the domain to see if it's actually registered), they keep it. If it doesn't get any hits, they use the 5-day trial period with ICANN to release the domain, and they're not out a penny. You might think they're out $10 per squatted domain, but they're not out anything - we're the ones getting screwed. - rexuslexus, on 01/09/2008, -1/+18Great response! You must be a tier II tech for NetSol!
Judging by your responses in this thread, you seem to take great interest in defending Net Sol. Can I offer you a domain name? http://www.eighto2touchessquirrels.com? - vornan19, on 01/09/2008, -0/+16db1113456 doesn't
- nospanish, on 01/09/2008, -3/+19What's funny to me is that a Network Solutions banner ad is on the right side of the page when I view this article.
Oh yeah, and NetSol sucks big sweaty nuts. (GoDaddy is the best!) - cobracommander, on 01/09/2008, -14/+30So that's where 2girls1cup.com came from...
- squaat, on 01/09/2008, -4/+20Found this update on slashdot
http://www.circleid.com/posts/81082_network_soluti ...
The link is to NSI response to the accusations. Sounds like they were actually trying to do something good rather than bad - cawpin, on 01/09/2008, -0/+15Who doesn't have a command line?
- sagat, on 01/09/2008, -0/+15http://cybersquattingassholesnetworksolutions.com/
- Kavok, on 01/09/2008, -0/+15So someone needs to write a program that will constantly register all possible 40character combinations of domains. :P
- nicepants, on 01/09/2008, -0/+15http://www.networksolutionsreallysucks.com
http://www.networksolutionssucksballs.com
LOL this is great - jcaino, on 01/09/2008, -0/+14or you could just do a WHOIS search from your command line...
- Azuroth, on 01/09/2008, -0/+14Like force you to buy from them for 35 bucks instead of somewhere else for 8? How noble of them.
Although I'm not sure why you'd search at one registrar and purchase from another. - dashxdr, on 01/09/2008, -0/+13Really simple to beat this. Everyone ought to several times a day just go check on nonsense, random domain names. Like
*****.net,*****.org,theyalleatchunksinhell.net,etc.
At some point a human has to make a determination which domains are worth sniping. Overload the bastards! - Otto, on 01/09/2008, -0/+13You don't have to register it. All you have to do is to search for it on Network Solutions page, and they instantly register it without telling you, and then hold it hostage for $35 for the next 5 days grace period.
- computergod, on 01/09/2008, -2/+15They do it with the command line too. You can use this script to hit them up for a bunch of random domains:
#!/bin/bash
for i in `seq 1 50`; do
length=$(tr -cd [:digit:] < /dev/urandom | head -c 2)
domain=$(tr -cd a-zA-Z0-9- < /dev/urandom | head -c $length)
echo "NSI will register $domain.com shortly"
whois -h whois.networksolutions.com "$domain.com"
done - gcnaddict, on 01/09/2008, -0/+12NS has been around for so long dude? They give so many favors to ICANN to stay listed as a registrar.
I'm not kidding either. - bendiy, on 01/09/2008, -0/+12I just decided to transfer a domain that was expiring away for Network Solutions. To do this I had to get the Authorization Code, so I called them and of course they wanted to know why I wanted to transfer my domain, so I said, "Because of Network Solutions unethical business practice of domain squatting the domains that have been search for at their site." They told me that they are reserving the domains for 5 business days after they were search for so the person has the right to register them for 5 days. After 5 days they will release them for anyone to register at any registrar.
They asked for an example and I gave them:
http://networksolutionsstolethisfromme.com/
That was funny!
This is total *****. What gives them the right to own the domain for 5 days and force you to register it with them or wait 5 days and chance that someone else will take it and squat it. Instead of releasing them outright, they probably sell them to a squatter company that auctions them off. - captmorgan555, on 01/09/2008, -0/+12http://Networksolutionshateswhitepeople.com
- xero9, on 01/09/2008, -0/+12http://www.networksolutionssucksbigsweatyballs.com lol
- blackinthmiddle, on 01/09/2008, -0/+12Amazing. I just searched to see if yourtherealpartypooper.com was available via godaddy. Sure enough, it was. Then I went to networksolutions and did the same search. Again, it was available. Finally, I went back to godaddy and refreshed the page. Not available anymore. Well I never used to networksolutions to check for domain names anyway, now I know to stay away from them altogether.
- captmorgan555, on 01/09/2008, -0/+12HOLY *****!
I just verified this doing the same method. I did my name with another word and then refreshed the whois search and now networksolutions has it! - implied, on 01/09/2008, -1/+12WRONG.
