- saraht578, on 01/14/2008, -15/+105But still no support for Mac...
- The_Wallbanger, on 01/14/2008, -1/+58Don't make a new box! Make it work with Tivos, Xbox 360s, PS3s, and Apple TVs that are already widely distributed.
- skankyBacon, on 01/14/2008, -0/+55While Blockbuster raises prices and limits the number of in-store exchanges per month, Netflix is actually giving their customers more. I for one am not sorry for switching.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -1/+55their servers better be ready
- lordtyros, on 01/14/2008, -2/+43The Office Seasons 1 - 3 FTW
Also, 30 Rock - kazzyD, on 01/14/2008, -2/+35The real news is where this could go when combined with the previous Netflix announcement of having a set top box that gets these (now unlimited) movies onto your TV:
http://www.techconsumer.com/2008/01/13/netflix-pre ... - dallen, on 01/14/2008, -3/+36How freakin awesome would it be if there was a Netflix channel on Wii?
- revjustin2, on 01/14/2008, -11/+41Yeah, but you can still feel superior to the rest of us, so there's that.
- krschuerman, on 01/14/2008, -6/+35No Linux support...
- MarkoBarko, on 01/14/2008, -2/+30wow...this might actually make me go legit...
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -3/+30Drawing movies frame by frame on an Etch-A-Sketch is a good enough reason to leave Blockbuster.
- Obsession88, on 01/14/2008, -16/+36No Mac support = no digg!
- logicalnoise, on 01/14/2008, -2/+20there's enough to be entertained plus there is a huge selection of tv shows at the ready. Plus many people with a laptop can just hook up to their tv via VGA
- thatsmyaibo, on 01/14/2008, -11/+27Now if it only worked on OS X...
- johnny222, on 01/14/2008, -8/+24What the heck? I had the ability to watch instantly until today, and now I can't do it at all!
Nevermind, I'm a retard. They changed the "Watch Instantly" button to "Browse Instant" so I didn't see it.
To ensure my burial, I'll just plug Ron Paul and say that I enjoy my Vista PC. - pilot3033, on 01/14/2008, -2/+15Anything is worth switching from Blockbuster.
I'd go Netflix over Blockbuster for just the mail-in DVD's alone. - Pilot85, on 01/14/2008, -1/+14The netflix blog says mac support is a DRM issue that they can't get around until "studio approved" DRM software is released for the mac, which they hope to have support for in '08. Firefox support should be coming early this year.
http://blog.netflix.com/2007/08/instant-watching-o ... - n4cr2k, on 01/14/2008, -2/+14I agree with Wallbanger3 . Netflix should open up its online service to the game consoles and such.
- logicalnoise, on 01/14/2008, -0/+12many HDTVS have a VGA port. Mine does, however few people have teh bandwidth to stream HD at a decent rate.
- johnny222, on 01/14/2008, -0/+11I prefer to be honest, in case anybody else had a brainfart like me. I like to think it's helpful. Plus, if I just deleted it, it'd be blank and I couldn't use my reverse psychology to try to get diggs.
- cwestpha, on 01/14/2008, -0/+9the netflix streaming of movies is wonderful except for two things:
1) windows only
2) limited selection
if they make a set-top box and open it to more platforms I could see the movie studios jumping on board and bye bye DVDs through the mail. Hello any movie thats available on DVD streamed to your tv any time you want it for a monthly fee. - fadeout, on 01/14/2008, -3/+12"The Connection has timed out. The server www.netflix.com is taking too long to respond."
Coincidence? :P - drlha, on 01/14/2008, -2/+11Nice, but it would limit stuff to 480p.
- MindTrigger, on 01/14/2008, -5/+14The movies in the Netflix download section are the bottom of the barrel save for a few. I've gone there several times looking for good titles, and there are still only a handful. I've enjoyed using Netflix since 2001, so I hope they start growing this download service immediately.
- Braingoo, on 01/14/2008, -2/+10I am an IT person and have already had to stop one person from doing it, It kills our bandwidth.
this one person viewing Netflix was using about 50x the amount of bandwidth of anyone else on the network.
ITs Beware. - Braingoo, on 01/14/2008, -1/+9Our network pipe better be ready.
- markusfarkus, on 01/14/2008, -0/+7Uh, shouldn't that person be working?
- martoq, on 01/14/2008, -2/+9Now if there was only something to see other than 1980's B-Movies.
- aaabatteries, on 01/14/2008, -7/+14not Netflix's fault, it's apple's, rather.
http://blog.netflix.com/2007/08/instant-watching-o ... - revjustin2, on 01/14/2008, -0/+7I have had no issues with actual picture quality. I agree that the selection is somewhat limited, but there are some gems in there.
- JamesMorris, on 01/14/2008, -6/+13Look at all the people with their OS's with 5% of the market share complaining. "ZOMG EVERYONE SHOULD SUPPORT MY OS!!11"
- twertyto, on 01/14/2008, -0/+6I doubt they are worried. Have you seen their selection of online movies?
- Memnochxx, on 01/14/2008, -0/+5Yeah, you sure are telling them aren't you?
- greenlight2001, on 01/14/2008, -2/+7Who says you need a legit copy of windows to get WMP11?
- SybotCB, on 01/14/2008, -2/+7I've had good luck using parallels and Windows XP to view the videos on my mac. It's not ideal. But it does work.
- bilbravo, on 01/14/2008, -1/+6I keep trying to convince myself that BB is a good deal because of the game rentals, but then I go there and see they have about 10 games per system and I just stay with Netflix. Hopefully yours has a better selection :-)
- trexdave, on 01/14/2008, -1/+5I've use this technique to watch 4 consecutive hours of the office. Outputting the display to a standard def TV looks just as good as if you were watching it...on TV.
- Memnochxx, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4Stop trying to control the internet!
- mrgreen4242, on 01/14/2008, -1/+5It's an important 7% though. Mac users are typically willing to spend a little bit more for something that works well, etc. I'm not saying Windows user = pirate and OSX user = model netizen, but rather that OSX users have simply already demonstrated their willingness to pay more for good products.
- ZenMojo, on 01/14/2008, -1/+5Woot! Time to catch up on the entire series of the Office!
- blackmage439, on 01/14/2008, -1/+5Exactly my point. Granted, putting your services on a proprietary media player is *****. but don't make that an excuse for piracy. Piracy is bad, no matter how you put it, and regardless of the circumstances, is against the law. You can be a "noble" pirate and "fight the system" against corporate conglomerates who charge an arm and a leg for their services. Other than that, you're just being a douchebag.
- XenophobicAlien, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4Usenet and nzbplayer... Unlimited movies on demand
- humperdeath, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4Prob'ly most folks already have a dvd player so why they need on in a wii too? I am connecting my wii to 'ORB.COM' to stream all my PC's media content (movies and MP3s). Works great!
- elined, on 01/14/2008, -8/+12Now if I could only playback on my mac....
- sngx1275, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3From netflix? If so, how? They are DRM'd so unless you have IE 6 or IE 7 you are hosed, at least thats what I thought. Oh and you can't even use an older video card like a 6200.
- MarsSentinel, on 01/14/2008, -1/+4it is about DRM and ONLY about DRM. Microsoft has gone overboard with control and the studios demand that control before they allow Netflix to stream their movies. THis is why more titles aren't available: studios not wanting their isht turned into streams that can be caught and released.
- Coridan, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3Anyone who thinks DVD isn't good enough is ***** rediculous. They make it sound like watching HD vs DVD is like watching Imax vs Betamax.
- xelloss, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3Most PCs (with a decent video card) from 4 years ago could output HD. Just buy a component cable, or use DVI or VGA and output it to your HDTV.
- hramos, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3Unfortunately, their online streaming service is not available out of the 50 states for licensing reasons. Not even in Puerto Rico where I don't believe there would be any issues since we're part of the USA.
