- antron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Yeah but how much of that is actually just myspace pages?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Microsoft Frontpage, look what you and your thousands of ampersands have done!
- itsallgeektome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Its good and bad. There's a lot more content out there because of the increased participation of users, but you pay the price in the quality/noise ratio.
- LegendOfLink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Unfortunately, I believe a lot of that "user generated" content is probably MySpace profiles.
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think they mean 35% of American internet users.

Most people create webpages in the same way that barfing on a canvas produces art.
either way nobody wants to see. - 4ooFdvr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7At least on Digg noise will mod down. Like this comment.
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The other 10% are people lamenting "1st post" comments and flame wars FYI.
- LegendOfLink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Brom, what's wrong with fansites? You forget the spirit of the Internet; anybody can post anything they want. If somebody wants to make yet another Mr. T ate my Balls page, they sure as hell can. We might not like it, but hey, it's what the Internet is all about.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Just because a person can create content, doesn't mean one should create content. I look back at some of the stuff I published back in the mid 90's and I cringe. At first I'm like "Yeah! Look at me the internet stud..." and then my eyes become clearer and I realize that I used way too many commas."
Complete with animated gifs and scrolling marquees. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3wtf were you researching? your sexuality?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3But if it said "Vote For Pedro", not only would it be content, but it might make the digg front page.
- aplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The internet needs a lot less Alex Jones fans.
- BaileyCowboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Just because a person can create content, doesn't mean one should create content. I look back at some of the stuff I published back in the mid 90's and I cringe. At first I'm like "Yeah! Look at me the internet stud..." and then my eyes become clearer and I realize that I used way too many commas. ,
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You shouldn't spam in your comments, ucbrave92.
- middleman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Does this count?
- xBDVx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, how much of this "content" is message board posts? Comments on blogs?
- middleman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I thought it was porn.
- Bakagamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Geocities and myspace shouldn't count.
- ImOscar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This population that supposedly is '1 billion' does not mean that many people are creating content.
- caps04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think this research has any value because with websites like shorttext.com, etc. "creating web content" is as simple as typing or pasting and clicking submit. Its debatable if a site which says "hello pedro" is actual "content".
- Brom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2true i agree that the first amendment of freedom of speech should carry to the internet however have you ever stumbled upon a gay pornsight when you were trying to do research?......not a pretty sight
- TheTap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wait until Joomla really catches on and novices begin to realize how easy it is to put up a moderately clean looking website with almost no effort. This is not Joomla plug (although I do love the program), just an observation that they have have made basic template-driven website creation a snap; and since it is all free, anyone and eveyone can put up web content. It is MySpace taken to the next level.
- JeffD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Brom
Exactly. Graffiti is often filled with interesting and worthwhil content (art, social commentary, jokes), while advertising is almost always filled with mindless dribble. - Brom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1ha ha very funny no i was researching how much of the USAs commerce comes from farming and welll......you really don wanna know what came up
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3No 90% are bitch teens and ***** EMO's talking about how daddy didn't buy them the new care they thought they should be getting so they are going to either A. Pout and make it look like their parents treat them like a prisoner in a torture camp or B. Talk about killing themselves because "no one understand, no one gets me...bitch bitch bitch....cry cry cry....Daddy doesn't love me enought to send the family in to 20k worth of debt for my new car that ass..blah blah.."
- whahaa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0now if only i could figure a way to barf on a webpage without getting my monitor dirty...
- mapkinase, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And this is good news? Internet is like public inner city walls. Are we celebrating more graffiti?
- Brom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0whats the difference between advertising bilboards and graffiti? content! it all goes back to what Bailey said.
- matt2m, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah i made a site http://unlimited-tech.com
it said 35% of American ADULTS not 35% of the population
since i am a teen i dint contribute to the statistic - rlabatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So does this mean that a small portion of the 80 million reported MySpace reg users have taken the time to post a comment or create a personal page? The Pew report seems low. (Yes I realize the report indicated "Adults"...but still)
- middleman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1 :)
- palmer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1First of all, SPAM.
Second, WTF is "dint"?
Third, "I" should be capitalized. Or do you have so little respect for yourself? The first letter of a sentence is also capitalized, and a sentence ends with a period.
If you are a teen, you must be the biggest kid in your first-grade class. Get back to the chalkboard and learn to write before joining the flocks of Web-content contributors. - Brom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0contributions to the internet are a good and bad thing tose who make contributions to help people are useful and should be kept around. those of our comunity who use their voices merely to create fansights are littering in the computer world and admins and hackers have to clean up their mess.
- Brom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0agreed Bailey............not the commas thing
- robotsaviour, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0Well I'm out of a job
- neoknight, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2The web 'population' is estimated at 1 Billion or more I think. Since the US population is 295,734,134 - 48 million americans is like roughly 16 - 17 percent. So that means only 5% percent of the content on the net comes from Americans, the rest 95% is from the rest of the world.
http://www.clickz.com/stats/sectors/geographics/article.php/151151 - ucbrave92, on 10/12/2007, -22/+2who gives a crap about content to noise? noise is having to listen to commies like yourself. this is why the internet is great, everyone can have a voice that is equal to that of those with the most money. but if our great police state government has their way things won't be this way too much longer. www.infowars.com
