- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16From "Every song ever created for free" to "one free song a day." Napster, you've changed, man.
- neuropsychguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13They actually are mp3s! I thought they were going to be DRM laden .wma files but they are DRM free mp3s. The one I downloaded was 320 kbps too. Nice job Napster!
- jasgeo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I'm surprised anyone still bothers with Napster. Its time came and went like 6 years ago, and now a "come-back" with all new legal files and the odd "bargain basket" free one that nobody probably wants anyway?
- IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13So why not just link to their site?
- pufuwozu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16Iron Maiden is very far from crappy.
- neuropsychguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I checked the Iron Maiden song. It's only 128 kbps but it is over 7 minutes long so the lower bit rate is understandable.
- TheDrunkMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10... unless you buy the songs permanently for 99 cents. Just like iTunes.
- mockstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8what's the fun in free if it's legal?
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8http://www.napster.com/mds_daily_download/media/103106/Shadows.mp3 (4.73mb)
That's the link for todays for me (That 103.. # might change depending on session). Some 'Shadows' song by 'Honeycut.' - jaredseth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Thanks, estvir.
And the two other currently listed tracks, without the annoying Napster registration:
'Nature of the Experiment' by Tokyo Police Club
http://www.napster.com/mds_daily_download/media/103106/Nature_of_the_Experiment.mp3
'The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg' by Iron Maiden
http://www.napster.com/mds_daily_download/media/103106/The_Reincarnation_of_Benjamin_Breeg.mp3 - jues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think that is the date? (31st Oct, 2006)
- ShadowSwan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Or if you use tunebite from www.tunebite.com to get rid of the drm legally... Meaning you get unlimited music for 9.99 a month which you can do with as you wish? Check my submitted story's for a link :)
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Haha, I'm an idiot. Good call jues.
It's late here in Australia, I should get off Digg and go sleep. :x
You're welcome jaredseth and thanks for the others. - Beefstyles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It'll all go downhill from the release of the track from Iron Maiden's new album. Not one of the best on the album, but damn good nonetheless. A Matter of Life and Death is the name btw, definitely check it out.
I'm a bit of a Maiden fan you see.
It could be interesting though due to its support of obscure bands(other than Iron Maiden) which could raise their popularity levels a bit which the more popular bands don't really need. - Ensnared, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"We're sorry but you cannot purchase tracks from outside the United States."
I thought they said "free". No digg. - javiel, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3Want free mp3s?
www.albumbase.com - dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3it would be nice if there was an rss feed with links for the free songs from iTunes, Napster and emusic. I'm too lazy to try to make one, but it sure would be nice. :)
- ahudson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's not completely free, you have to take the time to register... or just use bugmenot like I did
- burndive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.napster.com/freedownloads/
Direct link. - jues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's only because I'm coding a similar function at this moment in time that I spotted it ;)
- Snowcone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A free song a day works for me. I wonder how long till you get www.napstermirror.com that just mirrors the free music napster is giving away.
- sintekk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Emusic, a far more worthy site, also has a free MP3 everyday:
http://www.emusic.com/toolbar/daily_main.html - RichGC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Annoying that if your outside the USA you get told you cannot purchase music, and get told to goto your countries napster site, where the free downloads dont exist.
Luckily getting round this is very simple, copy the link and remove the javascript part, so your just left with the url to the mp3.
Overall thumbs up, because I like checking out new music :) - evileddie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Maiden Good.....Napster Bad....
- evilspoons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, but this time it's not illegal ;-)
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5its probably some crappy band... but free is still FREE
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11. Download iMesh v7
2. Download entire album with 1 click (30-day free trial to premium content)
3. Download FairUse4WM
4. Strip the DRM from the media files.
Enjoy :)
P.S. -- After 30-day trial, make another account on a DIFFERENT computer. Your computer is somehow logged and prevented from creating another trial account (not your IP address). Took me some time to figure out that using another computer does the trick,,, Go to the local library once a month (computer access) :P - desiaa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1too little, too late.
- jacenat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its funny how these corporations start to give away free stuff when simultaniously suing people for sharing. so its fine if i get free stuff from a centralized facility, but not from my friends?
holy cow.
not to mention that p2p is a much better distribution method. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4BREAKING NEWS: Former mp3-download giant Napster reduced to smoking (and legal!) heap of crap!
- evilspoons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hah. I go to the site and it tells me I'm not allowed to purchase songs outside of the United States (which makes sense, since I'm in Canada - except you don't purchase free things), but I can download the link you provided directly and download it without any problems. Weird. I wonder whether this download is still technically legal...
- spliffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dee are em fool.
i like napster cause i can download free music with good conscience. - kuzotz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1who actually pays for music file downloads? I mean its really only Americans, but a specific group....
- tristar2831, on 09/19/2008, -0/+0You can visit http://cheapmusicdownloads.wordpress.com to get unlimited access to millions of Cheap Music Downloads, Movies, Games, Software & More.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Usenet, get a free download every second. Way better than napster, and free.
- kuzotz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1wow don't know 'bout you, but I use soulseek to get my music :P
- vertinox, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5@"I'm surprised anyone still bothers with Napster."
The main problem with Napster is that you have to pay a subscription to their service. iTMS DRM is bad enough, but if you cease to pay Napster on a monthly basis you loose your music. - SLuM, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0limewire watch the ***** out

What is Digg?
