- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13This sounds awesome. The color accuracy of a CRT, the power efficiency and contrast of an OLED and the flexibility of e-paper.
But since this is just going to be moving into cell phones in 2010, i'll be happy with OLED for my next display. - goat77, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I actually think that bobadillo's post is... majestic. It should be preserved forever.
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13i'm sure i'm not the only person saying: what. the. f*ck. ?.
- gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Just don't aggravate the dots.
- Amaruca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4C'mon guys, he's just excited about "bendy" things.
- Falcon929, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Coffee Anyone?
- okdewit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This was in my physics schoolbooks 5 years ago. Cool to see it is possible now.
- dasch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5+1, hilarious
- breakneckridge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"he expects that it will be about four years before the company has its first commercial product -- probably a small display for a cell phone."
A lot of unforeseen things can happen in a new technology's development in 4 years. It sounds encouraging so far, but I wouldn't hold your breath. - kaiser79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2LMFAO +1 digg
- gwood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What I want is a quantum dot TV that searches parallel universes for better programs than the crap we get in this universe.
- ConceptJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34 years is forever in this field. ePaper was a couple years away 4 years ago and it pretty much still is. Vista was 1 year away 4 years ago. Although this is incredibly cool news, it's still very very far away.
- CadMasterAdam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2exciting stuff
- yahoofrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, quantum rocks.
- SilentPurity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I will bend his screen to death.
- robohoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Pricetag anyone? Wonder what it would cost.
- KJay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Sweeeeeeeeet. Maybe this way I'll be able to get a nice pretty 17+" display on my laptop without sub 2 hour battery life and low contrast...
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Good to see there's lots of development and innovation going on the background.
- schwarzbichler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0But nanocrystals which use quantum dots sound more cool than polymers. Could be from Stargate ;-)
- procrust1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another screen technology is polymer light emitting diodes:
http://www.cdtltd.co.uk/technology/38.asp
the "technology" menu offers an interesting read - bendable screens possible; 180 degree viewing angle; its light emitting hence no backlight needed; High contrast.
If only they suggested a timeline for mass production. - jcarrion1976, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1OLED sounds good... I'm pretty excited about SED as well.
I like how things are progressing with all these different technologies. - gh02t, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Yes, finally an alternative to LCD that doesn't drain the batteries in my laptop.
- quine, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Looks pretty, but I wonder what the potentiality is for nano-pollution...
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2Will it support my PS3?
- autobahn, on 10/12/2007, -20/+5The system
