- sanman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I consistently post the same stories ahead of others, but don't get the diggs:

What am I doing wrong? - yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I consistently post the same stories ahead of others, but don't get the diggs:
What am I doing wrong?" - sanman
Think about it a while.. Now, I'll let you into a secret; What is the first thing a Digg user sees? That's right, the title. Now compare...
A: "Indestructible Armor from Inorganic Fullerenes"
B: "NanoArmour - 5x Stronger Than Steel"
Does that answer your question?
Study newspapers and other highly Dugg articles on this site and practice.
Good Luck! - dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 Tungsten's density is similar to gold (a typical sized bar of gold weighs 77 pounds a bar of Tungsten about the same). If the body armor has the same amount of material as a (flattened) bar of Tungsten then that's too heavy to be practical. The Titanium Disulfide would be better.
Very interesting! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want a Kippah made out of this!
- jamester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Am I the only one that thought this was about an iPod nano case? I read 5x stronger than steel and I thought to myself, I have got to get one.
I'm disappointed. :) - regavoga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the israelis? i've heard alot about their new inventions lately.. what are they up to? :P
- dlamblin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I'm thinking that because this is presented as journalism, it is dishonest marketing.
The closing line on all these IsraCast summaries of inventions that will soon be great but aren't anything yet includes a variation on: "With external investment we're going to have a breakthrough product that makes everyone who invested rich."
The "journalist" is willingly avoiding any hard questions, doesn't compare any competing products, ignores other developments in the field, focuses only on the fantastic possibilities, and isn't citing any independent fact finding outside of asking the guy who wants the money. This is because the "journalist" is effectively a paid for marketer.
Just search for IsraCast on slashdot or something with longer archives than digg.
Who remembers this wild speculation of how 50 year old failed (a couple dozens of times by other people) technology is suddenly going to have an Israeli led breakthrough?

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>>>just like cars the more gadjets the more things that can go wrong.. when he loses power he will be a sitting duck in miidle of a firefight.
What the ***** has unpowered armour got to do with power supply, once the armour is made its not reliant on any further technology. A cave person could use it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I approve.
- wtfunkymonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0powercow
what the hell are you talking about? how is a bullet proof vest (or any other form of armour) going to run out of power? Did you even read the article? - n3tfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0powercow: you're a complete idiot.
re: the subject at hand, this is excellent no matter who invented it. i'm all for nano technologly. let's get this show on the road, kids. - Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Armour made out of buckyballs? I would have thought that would be quite dangerous, Fullerines arn't axactly the best thing for you.
- yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 felchdonkey - Here is the reason I posted this dupe, ready?.....I thought It was an interesting and relevant story that a lot of people obviously missed (knowing what Digg users generally like). The reason it was missed was because of the poor original title.
In any form of journalism the title is everything (Ok I'm no journalist and this is not a newspaper, but the same rules apply to providing stories on Digg as any other web site or paper). If you can't get someone inters ted in your title then what is the point of having the story? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll take 3 please. Hmmmmm, probably couldn't afford 'em ;)
- NidStyles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The current interceptor vest weighs around 18lbs. with the ceramic plates. I wonder if this will be heavier, or not. I certainly hope not. Wearing the Interceptor is hot and heavy. Not saying that I would want to be caught without or anything though.
- Blizaine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The armor as an 8-pack... now that's some abdominal muscle!
- smoothoperatah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0when i first read this title i thought it was a protective shell for an ipod nano.
- mc1123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow. Doesn't it seem suspicious that the Israeli's are creating this? And knowing the u.s., we're just gonna buy 'em up like hotcakes, and just pull us a little bit closer to the conflict on the Gaza strip.
- aznbond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Armour made out of buckyballs? I would have thought that would be quite dangerous, Fullerines arn't axactly the best thing for you."
It's not Buckminsterfullerine if it isn't C60. - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sanman - some people are just so greedy to get THEIR story on the front page, that they don't care how many times it's been posted already.
It's understandable that this story might have been posted despite the similar ones already up:
http://digg.com/technology/Nano-armor_-_Protecting_the_soldiers_of_tomorrow
and yours... after all, the "duplicate stories have been found!" warning that comes often has stories which are not related at all, and it can be easy to overlook.
BUT, there's no way the poster could have missed the BIG ASS duplicate warning that comes up when you post THE EXACT SAME URL as another story:
http://digg.com/technology/The_nanoarmor_of_the_future
That story was 6 days ago. I saw it because I was going to post the same story, but when it turned out to be a dupe, I chose not to submit, and dugg the original story instead.
yukevster, who posted this, not only got a big "dupe" alert and saw the original, he had to actively choose to post anyway, and didn't even give the orignal poster the respect of a digg.
If you like a story enough to post it, why would you not digg the original post?
I know people fall on both sides of the dupe debate, and it can get annoying to always be bringing it up, but obviously being a jerk and posting dupes works for people like yukevster.
The problem I see for Digg is, if the same few people keep posting dupes and getting on the front page, and new users never get to see their stories promoted, no matter how cool they are, people will get turned off from the idea of posting.
Part of the fun of Digg is getting to see your story promoted to the front, and if new users get turned off by seeing jerks dupe their stories all the time, it takes away from the fun. - sanman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nah, I always try to go for a good title. What was wrong with my title? I thought A sounded better than B. And besides, I posted it way ahead of this one. I should've got way more hits than what I got.
- mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome stuff +digg for shure.
- ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I thought this was a case for my iPod.
No Digg -- - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0just like cars the more gadjets the more things that can go wrong.. when he loses power he will be a sitting duck in miidle of a firefight.
- STKD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Of course, Robocop was actually just titanium coated with kevlar but hey... and yes, I'm scared that I knew that.

DIE!! Go Back to Slashdot if you want to not read the article then post stupid comments! - _skin_, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I thought that it was going to be a new iPod nano case!?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0When I first saw the headline I thought it was "Nano Amour" as in the French word for "love". Great, another article about people loving their iPod!!
- _skin_, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I thought that it was going to be a new iPod nano case!?
- McZiggz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0that'd look stupid on an iPod. No digg.
