- alamedaman, on 07/14/2009, -2/+36private, consensual transactions between adults? of COURSE the government will step in.
- TheEngineer2008, on 07/14/2009, -2/+28It's time to repeal this worthless law. You can help. Send a letter to Congress in only 60 seconds at:
http://capwiz.com/pokerplayersalliance/home
Following that, please sign the poker rights petition. Although only a few weeks old, it already has 300,000 signatures! Sign at:

Thanks! - deweyhewson, on 07/14/2009, -1/+16The most dangerous place to be is between a politician and your money.
- Khast, on 07/14/2009, -0/+13Of course the Federal Government won't return the money, they've already spent it. You're going to have to wait in line, like everyone else.
- tenringer, on 07/14/2009, -0/+8I had a check coming from fulltiltpoker at the time of the seizure. Fortunately, before I attempted to deposit it, I received a warning email from full tilt that it would bounce. They immediately refunded the amount of the check in my poker account plus $200 for the trouble. They also already had a new check processor available and I was able to immediately request a new check. This seizure, as annoying as it is, is not a reason to avoid playing online poker.
- TheEngineer2008, on 07/14/2009, -2/+10Their opinion != the law
The Wire Act appears to apply only to sports betting. DoJ will have to prove their case. - Schwallie, on 07/14/2009, -1/+8Great news! I love seeing people actually care about this, it shows we will get a real trial instead of letting us get screwed. If the media actually knows about it, we will likely get a decent chance of not getting screwed like Cohen did because of a backlash
- digghasnoethics, on 07/14/2009, -2/+8WTO has ruled again and again that the US actions on internet gambling are illegal.
The US is going to have to pay some serious compensation when all claims have been settled. Eventually the US will have to give in and accept online gambling, its just a matter of them climbing down.
In all practical concerns, its the US 'justice' dept. that's in the wrong. - andrewlotta, on 07/14/2009, -0/+5poker is a sport
*nerdy laugh* - Gregatron5000, on 07/15/2009, -1/+6There are a few different reasons. Powerful lobbies is one reason -- Focus on the Family and other religious right wingers, along with the NFL. Also, American casinos, particularly tribal ones, are against it.
That said. it's not ENTIRELY clear online poker is actually illegal. - Gregatron5000, on 07/15/2009, -0/+4Great job Engineer. Thanks for all you do for PPA and and twoplustwo. You are the man!
- LonesomeFighter, on 07/14/2009, -2/+6poker is not gambling. that's been the argument since the beginning. poker is a game of skill, not luck.
- Jrr6415sun, on 07/15/2009, -1/+4you can say the same thing about alcohol and that's legal for people over 21
- marko777, on 07/15/2009, -1/+4Poker and gambling should be allowed. Look at Las Vegas!!! A wonder in the middle of ***** desert!! Allow gambling in all states and we will fix this economy!!
We use Liberty Reserve to manage poker accounts and store funds. We never had problems. US lobbyists will ruin US with dumb laws that damage more than help the economy!! - consonance, on 07/14/2009, -2/+4I don't understand why Internet gambling is illegal.
- HonoredMule, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2If you have your browser set to reject 3rd-party cookies (a perfectly reasonable setting) NYT will show a login screen instead of the article. Until they learn how to handle cookies properly, I bury any NYT article that does that to me.
- mxmj, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1It takes a longer than it used to but they are still coming.
- Gregatron5000, on 07/15/2009, -2/+3It's not that simple. A government can break its own laws. It's called living under the rule of law.
- shake1dde, on 07/14/2009, -2/+3Anyone is the US have trouble withdrawing from fulltiltpoker.com?

- NiceGuyVan, on 07/14/2009, -7/+2From what I gathered, it wasn't illegally seized
"The Justice Department has long maintained that Internet gambling is illegal; "
They win. - rehkcts, on 07/14/2009, -8/+3Online poker wasted many good hours of my life
