- wtfersk8s, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Id hate to see youtube go down, there too many retarded kids there blowing ***** up that keep me entertained for hours.
- Scheissen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20If they actually win I think people should just boycott the networks.
- epyon180, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I wonder when these old juggernaut companies learn that they are actually hurting themselves with these actions?
- caribman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Should any of those suits find Youtube/Google liable it would send a precedence for others to sue the likes of Universities/schools, ISP's or any other organisation or business who's users have copyrighted material or provide the means for users to freely express themselves.
- harrier666, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I can quickly name three shows I never would have heard of if it wasn't for YouTube. I purchased DVDs of all them, including a $200 box set for one. The inability to grok new technology by these aging corporate morons is getting dull.
- aresef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I thought NBC had an arrangement with Youtube. What happened?
- SniperGX1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8www.thepiratebay.com
- sofaKing812, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Someone new to add to my "***** You" list.
- Cwo655321, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5they must be coming up to some sort of renegotiation period ;)
- artfuldodga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5hah, well NBC needs to get the f*ck off youtube then.
- ih8regs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Anyone else first read that as them wearing a piracy suit?:)
- TheProtested, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Am i not aloud to watch heroes anymore?
D: - Nuttmeg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I, unfortunately, work for these idiots.
From what I hear, this whole YouTube thing is creating different factions within NBC.
There are those totally against it….aka the reason for this http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/03/23/what-we-know-so-far-about-newtube-isnt-good/
And then there are others who support submitting NBC material to YouTube for promotion purposes, especially stuff that doesn’t get a lot of play (ie NBCSports.com material)
Basically it’s a ***** - onidraky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@hdtvdust
He's the one giving them the money they want. So, yes, I'd figure he does know better than them what he, himself, wants. - HairyPoter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3All incompetent companies, the same ***** losting the battle against illegal copying of DVD and CD, that are the same ***** that are losting audience to the web, that are the same ***** that claim losses but produces contents worst every day, these jerks are now looking for deep pockets to put the hands in. Google has deep pockets.
As they are incompetent, this is the only way to try to get some money, as their empire is crumbling... - generalloy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2explains why TWoP hates youtube links. They were acquired by NBC Universal.
- vguard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This seems a bit odd, since NBC is one of YouTube's new "partners"...
http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=NBC - tcardone05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LONG LIVE YouTube and LONG LIVE Google! People back Google. Anybody back NBC for and Universal for sticking DRM and restrictions of EVERY freakin THING?
- ScreaminIke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hrm... i think this is the direct result of google buying youtube. media corps. smell blood, methinks.
- Xizer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hmm, that's interesting, NBC has a YouTube account.
http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=NBC
With 307 videos...and you can comment without moderation on them.
Perhaps the Internet community should let NBC know how it feels about this betrayal? I'm thinking an event much like Digg's recent incident. - crash128, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is like watching the lawyers warm-up before a baseball game (yes, in suits).
- sunshinemonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Me, I was wondering what in the world YouTube would look like as a pirate.
- cmdrNacho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well they can choose to ignore them, and look at it as free marketing. Has anyone seen the quality of videos on youtube or any of these sites. Its not that good. Watching a show like heroes or lost.. its better to just go to the nbc or abc site to watch them. And they can't post content over 10 minutes. So whats the point.
- sofaKing812, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg needs a way to erase comments within the "click to edit" time frame. DAMN IT!
- hobophobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1NBC and Viacom want to make money off their content holdings. At the very least they want the hits from audience to be at their sites and not Youtube. Ultimately the audience is largely going to the first place they can with a minority going to the best quality version.
The former is why eBaums stays in business despite almost all of their content being available elsewhere. They collect a bunch of content at one location and users like that. Largely for the same reason Youtube is successful. Most of the Youtube content that isn't just video blogs can be found elsewhere online, but Youtube has a concentration of content.
The compromise that ought be struck is one where NBC/Viacom allows their content to be hosted on Youtube (either directly or via embedding) with a direct link back to the copyright owners' site. That's the current burden of embedding a Youtube video in your own site, and is pretty much the gold standard for showing off other peoples' content. - harrier666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn Straight! Thanks for clarifying!
- Travelsonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"just remember - if they don't defend their copyrights on every single infringement - they loose them forever. "
That's trademark, not copyright... goofball. ^_^ - kidcodea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1these vampires were only waiting for youtube to have a worthy suable owner. ***** them.
- harrier666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think the point is not that they should look away while their stuff is pirated, but rather that they should embrace new technology and learn to work with it. Their target market is the same market that is watching the stuff on YouTube. It's advertising. Instead of suing, get some tech experts to determine ways to sell your product through the posted videos. Network TV is soon to be a thing of the past no matter how many people they sue. The litigious route won't solve a damn thing and will just cost them grundles of money.
- Ryosen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@hdtvdust
Wow, thank you for the insightful and, yet, somewhat nonsensical response. Seeing as how you have been here 5 weeks, have only dugg those articles which you have submitted yourself (7), and every comment left by you has contained hatred and offense in CAPITAL LETTERS, I feel absolutely certain that you will have little more of value to add, ever, and, thus, joyfully, hit the ban button.
Thanks for stopping by. Tell your friends about this place. - mg101153, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Big surprise. Just 1 week ago I received a letter from my ISP regarding me illegally downloading some NBCU copyrighted material.
Apparently they threaten to cut my internet access if I download any kind of BitTorrent. This big copyright downloading crackdown is really starting to tick me off. - harrier666, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@ryosen, I also noticed all of his comments have been dugg down. I, too, have banned our insightful friend. It hurts inside, but together we'll make it.
Now I must go back to my virginal, loser, minimum wage existence. - binaryspiral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Okay goofballs, just remember - if they don't defend their copyrights on every single infringement - they loose them forever. Blame the legal system, not the companies who are forced to bankroll a small town of lawyers.
What else are they supposed to do? - sofaKing812, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@jer2eydevil88
"I'm sorry but internet boycotts are ineffective and old, instead we need to worry about who we elect in 2008 because they will make the policies and laws that influence these corporations abilities to control what we can do."
What in the ***** does that have to with me adding people/organizations to my "***** You" list? Perhaps you do not understand the concept of a "***** You" list. It is simply a list of people or things that irritate me. Nothing more, nothing less. Needless to say, good sir or madame, you have achieved the coveted honor of being added to said list.
***** you. By the way, I hope the White House gets painted black in 2008. - zai-asal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So do we DoS attack theres sites now or later?
- yeepay, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0asfafaffa
- atmanick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think to show support for you tube and our right to exchange information someone should start a boycott of the companies who are involved in the lawsuit.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'm sorry but internet boycotts are ineffective and old, instead we need to worry about who we elect in 2008 because they will make the policies and laws that influence these corporations abilities to control what we can do.
- ksponge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@hdtvdust (#6566844)
And you are an ugly *****. What's your point? - fkr3, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6"freely express themselves"
If they want to express themselves why don't they feel free to create instead of duplicate? You always have that simple choice. I don't see how the latest clip of Colbert saying something is some user expressing themselves.
Fair use does need adjusting - nobody should be in trouble because a song was playing in the background of their lame little video diary blog thingies. But YouTube's issue is from turning a blind eye while people upload and reupload whole/parts of tv episodes, movies, music clips etc without permission. - cloudyprison, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3That is alright, not much worth watching on NBC anyways. =D
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1As they should/ Google should no be allowed to make money off other people's creative works. Period.
And aresef...NO arrangement with YouTube will ever be "Go ahead and continue to allow anyone to post our shows commercial free whenever they want."
Any deal with YouTube will include the company submitting videos, with small ads in them. - ksponge, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1@fkr3 (#6566751)
Anyone that goes to youtube to watch movies/tv shows is an idiot. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Yeah...because you know more about it than they do. You know, without looking at any ratings numbers that their ratings have increased since theshows were put online. You just work in a minimum wage job because you LIKE to. Otherwise you could easily be a network executive. You clearlyt know more about the TV industry than they do.
Who needs FACTS and RESEARCH. You have your completely ignorant GUT FEELING to go by!
And hey...harrier is representative of EVERYONE! Becuase all TV viewres are virgins losers with no life!
