- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As I think about it, they will most definitely make a lossless copy of everything. I mean, if they are going to do this monumental task, I can't imagine they'd pass on the ability to also then have a lossless original copy for their own uses, whatever they may be. Then on top of that, they would have a host of other compressed sizes for the internet and other mediums. That alone would require an astronomical amount of storage, but factoring in the automatic backups of everything. Wow. It hurts my head just thinking about it.
So many years of games, interviews, other stuff, etc. They undoubtedly will have to start an organization tool and viewer from the ground up just built for this task. I'd like to see what kind of power-house computers they will need just to effectively search and view it within reasonable speed, much less transfer and encoded it in the first place.
Head explodes. :-O - chrism1128, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, a content owner actually coming up with a way to use the Internet to get their content into the hands of their customers.
That's a mind blowing concept. Give customers the ability to consume a product. Not just any old crap, but what they want, when they want it, with not other useless garbage.
If the record and motion picture industry could figure this out we might really have something.
I think they have a right to charge money for it. Just for deciding to let customers have some choice, they deserve a few bucks.
Smart move. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Guess what sort of connection I'll be using to access this archive?
"Nothing but net..." - darkvad0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This looks cool, but it is all about the money:
"And though the project is about making any of the footage available to anyone who needs it, the league is clearly most excited about the revenue potential such an extensive library could bring." - reaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's great. It'll be even better if it's free.
- Flawless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I didn't know SGI still existed...
- Incognito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Rock on.
+Digg - djnick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sweet! hope they keep it free and high quality by the time it comes out, even though the footage is old
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this might be a good hitch for Silicon Graphics considering their financial troubles. Their stock currently goes for $0.42 per share! http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=SGID.OB&t=5d
- madfgurtbn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When will the t.v. and radio networks do this with their archival news footage? I don't care about basketball, but I might want to watch the news from the vietnam war or the week of Kennedy's assassination.
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"this news made my day...++digg"
You know, you really shouldn't pre-increment diggs, sometimes an article concept sounds great, but then you click it and it's freaking retarded. I much prefer the post increment, digg++; - TheRealStyro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm. Apply content protections on every minute of every game ever recorded and you can have a good deal of lawsuits against people that record your games without permission.
Then again, the NBA isn't the RIAA or MPAA so maybe they don't think of customers as criminals in a French court. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this news made my day...++digg
- ali9000i, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anybody know if this will be free or what?
- Friedbeef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Where there's encrypted NBA content in the future, there will be DVD Jon and friends :)
- theloganrunner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No way is this going to be free. If they are anything like the NFL they take every penny from the fan. Even to listen to the game on the internet.
I like the idea, but at what cost. - Cozmcphish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So that means I can watch Dennis Rodman kick that camera man in the nads over and over again? Awesome!
- Ares, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome news, I love searchabe. Lincoln is my favorite president, now, cavity searches online! SGI is the best!
+digg for tolerating typo jokes - JuliusErving, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Geeks are allowed to like sports you know.. all the haters need to shut up. How exactly is this lame?
- shackbar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good idea but we still won't have any footage of Wilt Chamberlin's 100-point game. SIGH
- scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is very cool and it would be great if other sports followed -- There's so many NFL plays I would love to have saved.
However...
It will come at a cost and will not be worth it. - ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0me being a hoops junkie loves this news....first digg in a while..
- vodkamattvt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It would be nice if it were free, but come on people .. look at the cost of what they are proposing. The storage will be astronomical, distribution of video to people will be astronomical, they would lose a lot of money offering something like that for free. They *are* a business afterall.
At least the NBA is being progressive, and I can see people that love NBA basketball maybe wanting in on this. - wonderboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't see how this could be free
- AtomicTheory, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bladgammit, if you can't check your spelling, then in the future, don't post at all, and save yourself the embarrassment.
- Dayyve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Growing up in Chicago with Michael and Scottie and the gang hearing this makes my day! I would be happy to pay a reasonable fee for the literally days of footage I'd like to see again.
Major Digg! - topper24hours, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Am I the only one who read this title as "searchbabe archive"?
- Cheyne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great news, I'd pay for this service!
- antonymous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think this could really take off - I'd love to put together my own highlight reel, as long as NBA.com didn't own the rights to it right away, which they probably will. My first search would definitely be for "Reggie Miller Heroics"
- muhgcee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'd hit it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Interesting idea, if it were only being done with something that mattered. like college football or basketball.
- jnorris441, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Where's the porn version??
- RadicalBender, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0>>SELECT * FROM GoodGames WHERE Year > 1996
0 results found. - dragonmortal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this is a kool idea except it should of been done on something more productive like star trek
- Harlequn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I emailed Steve Jobs and asked him to put every minute of every Macworld intro he has ever done. he says he's gonna do it !
- nickzee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0only the last two minutes of every game count...the nba is just plainly annoying. "I had to sell one of my cars to get by"
"I need to support my family" --Sprewell rejecting a multimillion dollar deal. - Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Yes... but it's the NBA. Lame-o.
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Can't anyone type around here recently? I've never seen such typos in headlines and descriptions!

http://fuh-q.com - nogami, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Wow, what a useless waste of time...
- AhronZombi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0sports is gay and far too lame to be on digg in any form
