- Derrekito, on 10/11/2007, -18/+126people still use myspace?
- calebrown, on 10/11/2007, -10/+109How about they ask for 200 bucks to convert the site to a Linux, Apache, MySql, PHP (LAMP) setup and allow myspace to work for once.
- JakeCop, on 10/11/2007, -4/+58MySpace is nothing more than a spamfest these days, populated by people using automated friend adding software and spamming user's profiles. It's a farce. Use Facebook instead.
- treelovinhippie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+54Those guys should get a kick up the arse and a few years in jail not only for 'creating' the ***** that is MySpace.... but also for their previous business ventures involved in SPAMMING people and installing SPYWARE on people's computers without them knowing.
- mcm297, on 10/11/2007, -3/+57Digg comment created by Tomas' Comment Generator v 2.5.
- Yashar, on 10/11/2007, -3/+42Or else what?
They will place even MORE ads on myspace? - kingkilr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+35They are going to need more then LAMP to de-***** that site.
How about knocking there front page down to under 200 XHTML validation errors for starters :O - canewediggit, on 10/11/2007, -7/+36no, nobody. just millions more people than digg, facebook, linkedin, orkut, bebo, friendster, uber, virb, and every other social site that you've ever heard of. it's a complete failure.
- Error601, on 10/11/2007, -4/+30Uhhh...who gives a crap about their contract negotiations?
- Akaji, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25Oh yeah, Steve Jobs is so awesome because he only gets $1 a year!... and $10 million from stock options.
Honestly, the naivety of some people scares me. - ashwinashwin, on 10/11/2007, -3/+25hahahaha thats hilarious, because as you can see from myspace's interface and design, they're doing GREAT job with their team right? the site looks like they hired their college roommates to program it, its miserable. almost nothing has changed since the beginning, unlike smarter sites like facebook
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+23Sorry, if I was sitting on top of a goldmine like MySpace, I'd ask for $12.5m a year too. Maybe they'd try to talk me down but maybe not.
- SteveTheSultan, on 10/11/2007, -3/+22So they want more money? Big Deal, If the mysapce makes 10 million a day in ad revenues, dont you think that they should get a chunk of it? Murduch probably makes 15 million a day with all he has. Everybody says myspace is crap, blah blah blah.
The regular user likes it and people are paying to put ads on it. Sounds like good business to me,
@calebrown = why do you get so pissed if a web site is made in microsoft. 90% of the people out there could really give a ***** about what a site is built with. If there are monkeys typing code to make stuff work, that is fine. - legendxx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16myspace is great.. it will automatically group together all the ***** in society so when I am ruler of the world I will know who to shoot into the sun first.
- ricodued, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13It always amazed me that kids couldn't look through the "code" to remove that sort of crap.
- Anrkist, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16Isn't it the Google execs who get paid $1?? Also, didn't Steve Jobs get caught backdating?
- weiran, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13The platform has nothing to do with the ***** of the site.
- 1longtime, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11This may be helpful. The summary: MySpace was founded by spammers and corporate giants, not hard-working kids in their garage.

See you on Facebook everyone. - Error601, on 10/11/2007, -8/+19So, Steve Jobs marketing move actually worked on some people? Probably the same people that actually believe Micheal Moore movies.
- sonaboy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13Good for them - they should be able to get whatever they want. Murdoch can afford it and he didn't do any of the work.
- stainboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9You Must Be Logged-In To Do That!
- SenorPez, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Murdock will just have them killed.
- allaboutdatiki, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Myspace is huge ball of crap, but they should still soak Murdoch for every dime they can. Heck, make it $50M a piece per year.
The idea of Murdoch owning the WSJ makes me want to puke. But hey, maybe that's just me. - stefpet, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Why are you upset?
These two are likely pretty fed up with MySpace. They've made their exit and cashed in by selling it, now they want to move on to new ventures. However, of course they ask them to stay in the company after their initial contract is up (we don't know the background, I'm assuming). So if they want to get away, maybe only an outrageous sum can make them stay. Who can blame them?
If I wanted to quit my day job, but my boss would like me to stay. Then I would too request an outrageous sum to stay. - wild, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Tom should have to pay a thousand dollars to anyone that has ever been his friend on MySpace.
- su1man, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10a few things you can do to make myspace bearable
1. Run Firfeox
2. Add Extensions Adblock Plus, Flashblock, & Fasterfox.
3. Cancel your account. - Markpdotcom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I didn't know anything about their spyware past, although seeing myspace, its not surprising! Are there any links or hard info to back up your claims?
- LeeSoong, on 10/11/2007, -7/+14peanuts.
They should ask for $200 million. - Zamyatin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Yeah it's true that Facebook is much cleaner, not a ***** spamfest, and actually has a decent API for plugins and such, but since MySpace still dominates, I see nothing wrong with it's creators going for the gusto. Of course, with higher pay they'd be expected to show better performance by their design team, which may lead to a MySpace that doesn't completely suck. I'm guessing, though, that they're going to try sapping all they can out of News Corp, since that company is showing hefty profits via MySpace as it is, and since they sold it for a relatively small amount of like 200 million (if i remember correctly, it was much, much less than YouTube's sale to Google)...
- redrock34, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I don't think $12.5 million a year isn't too bad. After hearing reports of MySpace being worth over $12 billion, I would be asking for a hell of a lot more.
- championchap, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6haha, they just have!
I logged in before to check my messages.. unfortunatly its the only way i can keep in contact with a couple of my friends..
There was one of those horrible "Skip this Ad" Fullscreen things just after pressing login. - meechwings, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6It doesn't amaze me. Bear in mind these are the same people that think red-on-purple is a good color scheme.
- ricodued, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5They've been in the process of converting to ASP.NET for almost a year now, if not more. Now you want them to switch again? Sheesh! Myspace will never fix itself at this rate.
- Lokomis, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Tom is not my friend.
- srodolff, on 10/11/2007, -0/+550 million is NOT outrageous when Murdoch is trying to make $12 billion from the sale of myspace.
- gigawatts2k, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Yup, just like people still use AOL.
- stalefries, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Unfortunately, yes. Thankfully, I've managed to get a few friends to convert to Facebook over the last couple of days!
I suggest everyone try it, comparing Facebook to Myspace makes it so obvious to Myspace users what they're missing. - cramd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5What about a site like Facebook.com? They are using a LAMP stack, and their traffic is nutty high. It is not the LAMP stack that would present an issue, is is the implementation.
- Teaboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Bad code running on LAMP is going to be just as bad as bad code on IIS/ASP.
- allengeer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4In terms of girls, Myspace is the Courtney Love. Its unkempt, a mess, difficult to be around, makes obnoxious noises (inline flash song player), and oversexed.
- halleyscomet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Not bad for a site created by spammers, pimped using Spam and as devoid of real content as Spam.
Myspace.com, proof that Spam pays. - pkulak, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4haha, they are so replaceable. What a joke.
- pizzatsf, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Almost every girl I know uses or has a myspace, thats why I'm using it, and I'm sure millions are using it for the exact same reason.
- TopBanana, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It's not outrageous, it's a business proposition. Murdoch's not stupid - if he thinks he can get more than $50m of value out of them in two years he'll go for it.
- noctu, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I am not a fan of myspace but I have gotten so many junk emails from facebook just because a friend of mine added my email on her account so I had a flood of invites from people I didn't even know I want to shoot whoever came up with social email address sharing
- Atomic1fire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I only use myspace to legally listen to music at certain times without having to pay for it
- defektiv, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3i don't like those guys, but i hate rupert murdoch even more. the guy is complaining about $50m? how much is he making off advertising on the site? go screw yourself murdoch, and take faux news with you when you burn in hell.
- everfresh59, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I agree, it's a great model, something to which majority of new tech businesses have used when creating their own. Murdoch makes easy money off MySpace, I for one wouldn't any less than that 50 Million....
- sherwinn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Please show me which corporation is charging a "100x" markup. I would love to invest.
- MaZAKaR, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I have as well, slowly but surely they are headed their way over to facebook! :)
