- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I don't know if this is the stupidest idea that I have ever seen or the smartest...
- DEFSMAC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8what happens if you compose music that sounds too much like a copyrighted song? do riaa henchman come and cut your card up?
- b403, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Are people idiots... sticking their credit card into a random PC, one which is networked no less?
- Leonaken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5One word: WHAT?
I'm not taking my credit card out to kareoke with my buds and I'm not going to stick it in any machine other than an ATM or an actual teller. Credit cards are for finance, not for music. This idea is going nowhere. Period. - mattyG, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7try Genius...
- abbott75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sticking your card into an actual teller? Which Bank are you with?
- rawsteak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5i can't wait until someone clones their own version of this machine, except it makes music by stealing the data off of their card.
also, i don't think people that can't spell the word "genius" should be allowed to use it. - Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Steps:
1. Go to competition
2. Turn on tape recorder
3. ???
4. Profit!!!!! - wintermute0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wonder, if we can track down Vanilla Ice - will his card will play the bassline from 'Under Pressue?'
- bobb243, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2so after i took the SAT test, i went to the ATM machine and entered my PIN number.... i hate people's ignorance!
- Aztlan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Each time a card is swiped the contents of its magnetic stripe are captured and parsed to form the melodic motifs of a short musical composition."
And I think it needs your pin to make the music $$$.
They will be testing it in LA Friday I want to be there to laugh my ass off at everyone using it. - rooke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So, who's the first person to stand there and record the music played, then reverse engineer it to the actual data on the card?
If people are worried about the blinking data lights on network equipment (slow network equipment but still), how is it better to have a song based on your credit card data? - DoubtfulSalmon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes yes, you're right, people ARE idiots! (The system ACTUALLY works by using your credit card to buy random music from iTunes!!!)
- wintermute0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1WMMNA is an exceptional site. Even though it alternates between exceptionally good & exceptionally bad, its usually worth a minute of my night.
- dopefish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No, they just sue you straight away, and direct-debit the settlement.
- tokyotechy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is bad enough listening to people's stupid ring tones. If this caught on I would jump off a bridge.
- jacobpellegren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Music and my life = everything that matters. Even if it's a credit card. Now, how to get to California? ... hmmmmm.
- randal2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Next week, RIAA sues VISA for allowing cards to carry ringtones of "i want money".
- arrrrrg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Even if the people making the machine are trustworthy, a bystander could just use a mini tape recorder and grab hundreds of people's data. I'm not sure whether the audio fidelity would be good enough to recover the data, but it certainly seems like a possibility.
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is probably the worst idea I've ever heard.
- digelpif, on 01/03/2009, -0/+0http://howtoprevent.info/credit-cards-protection-h ...
- jacobpellegren, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You people are toooooo skeptical, just for once, let go ... see what happens.
- RavenLemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Seems stupid to me. Where do you get the inspiration? By buying stuff with your card?
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1They're working on another fun thing, where your pin number is converted to a color, and you are supposed to wear that color as a fashion statement!
- konstantinr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"...."
says a christian. - jonboykayaks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wait until all of the people that swipe their cards get stuff charged to their cards.
- silent1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I seriously question the wisdom in this. This seems to be just as bad an idea as flashing the read numbers (or some derivative) up on a huge scrolling LCD panel ... you shouldn't be broadcasting your card's data in *any* format -- it's only a matter of time until someone's card number is stolen by "listening". If the music is unique to the card data, the card data can be recovered from the music.
- av4rice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Special ATM machines are used"
Special automatic teller machine machines? I think this author is the special one. - coffeegeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Sounds Japanese to me.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Just because you don't like it doesn't me we can't.
I think it's interesting enough for a digg. - gingerbreadMan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0obvious man says "say no to reduntacy"

I actually believe this is pretty lame....just because kevin likes it doesnt mean you have to.... - Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3GENIOUS!!!!
- EliColburn, on 10/12/2007, -22/+3kevin rose dugg it, so therefore i digg it.
